AIBU to be a bit annoyed

Neighbours have decided to get a trampoline, it's literally the biggest thing I've ever seen, takes over the whole garden... whatever they want in their garden that's not my business.. but what's annoying me is anytime the kids and multiple kids friends are on the trampoline which is for hours after school, in the evening.. they can see straight into my house, so I'm in the kitchen or trying to have dinner, or just relaxing on the couch and the kids are bouncing and trying to get my attention or wave or just constantly staring in. (They don't even need to jump to see in, it's a very very high trampoline so even just sitting on it they are able to see straight in)

I know they're only kids and they are only having a bit of fun, but it's just really annoying me and now I feel I've no privacy

AIBU to be annoyed by this?

it’s LITERALLY the biggest thing you’ve ever seen?? Even then a plane? A house? The sun?? Wow, that really is big!

Just kidding. I second (third?) the vote for the screen privacy things you can get on Amazon.

thecatsthecats · 06/05/2023 22:08

Net curtains? Is this 1957?

I'd begin by saying to the neighbours that you don't mind the kids using it, but you find all the waving and staring invasive.

That's perfectly reasonable.

DurdleLau · 06/05/2023 22:22

It depends what you want to achieve really, if you can discuss it with your neighbours then you might be able to come to a kind of agreement over when/how long for the trampoline is used. A trampoline this big and close enough to your garden/house for the kids to be waving at you in the house can be classed as invasion of privacy, and you can get legal advice. But really I wouldn’t want to be the one spoiling their fun, so like others have said perhaps some screening etc, and secretly hope the trampoline breaks. 😂

I love my nets! Especially when the cats sit on the windowsill with the nets over their faces and I can pretend they're little brides

Showdogworkingdog · 06/05/2023 22:27

I had this with my former neighbours. Got on ok with them but we were not that friendly and I was worried if I said anything it’d become a bigger problem and make it about me BU, complaining about kids playing. As well as them looking over the kids would shout at one another on the trampoline, constant outside voices and shrieking.

I kept the blind down and wore ear plugs to listen to music/an audiobook to try to zone it out. They did get bored with it after a while but I hated it.

Hankunamatata · 06/05/2023 22:29

Friend got one way glass in her windows as she lives directly on a street, doesn't stop light and cam only be seen through if light it on. I think you can get window film that does the same if you don't fancy old fashion nets

SkaneTos · 06/05/2023 22:33

They will probably get bored with it after a while.

lambdog · 06/05/2023 22:43

Is there a safety net around the trampoline? Any way you could casually suggest one in a crafty way? Your cousin’s daughter fell off and broke her leg or some such.

Trixiefirecracker · 06/05/2023 22:53

From my experience of trampolines, it will soon be old news.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/05/2023 23:09

Make the trampoline as unattractive as possible by throwing a handfull of bird seed onto it .
Once those little darlings have hooved it up and left a load of pooh , NDN kids will think twice about going for a bounce

My neighbours at the back (we all have long gardens) have just moved their kids trampoline right up against my fence. The same fence their kids have spent two years breaking slats off kicking their footballs so hard against it. They've moved their netted goal. The back half of my garden is fenced off down the middle so my rabbits can have full roam. So now instead of them being hit by footballs (three times that I've seen), the kids are standing on the trampoline and hanging their upper halves over the (now very weak and battered) fence shouting "BUNNIES!"
If I try to repair the fence the kids crowd round their side, pull at the loose slats and shout at me.
Hell is other people Angry

Our neighbour had the same problem, a nice thick sticky grease smeared very thickly over the top of the fence soon stopped the hanging over. Did no harm to the kids but their parents soon stopped them doing it when it ruined lots of clothes.

Why wouldn’t they stop their kids doing it in the first place is what gets me 🤯 good idea though!

NotMeSecretFormular · 07/05/2023 00:27

@ChemKate they jumped the fence today to get one of their footballs. I was within seconds of a kid in my garden, climbed back over breaking another fence panel before I got near enough to shout. Just put a copious amount of greasy oil on the top of the fence. Any more footballs come over, I’m confiscating. They can come round and knock but they'll get nothing. I can see from my bedroom window how they've broken fence panels in 3 directions excluding mine.

Outliers · 07/05/2023 01:58

They'll get bored of it eventually

KitKatLove · 07/05/2023 06:58

Ask them to sink it into their garden, my friend did this to placate her neighbours.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 07/05/2023 07:00

Highly irritating and we had the exact same issue. The only good thing is the novelty soon worn off and the kids never used it after a while so NDN sold it.

Ladykryptonite · 07/05/2023 07:37

Sinking it into the ground is a great idea, it's very thoughtless of your neighbours

I'd be sending the parents a bill for the repairs. They sound completely out of control.

@JennyJenny8675309 @Disabledmomma please can you link to the one you bought?? I have been looking but the reviews are so mixed!

HappiestSleeping · 07/05/2023 09:38

Mirrored film on the outside. It's cheap, easy to apply, and easy to remove when they are too old for trampoline. You'll be able to see out, and they won't be able to see in.

ZekeZeke · 07/05/2023 10:13

They will soon get bored with it once the novelty wears off, our neighbours one is an ornament now but at the start the non stop shrieking was deafening. They also shouted over at us (we ignored)

Crikeyohreilly · 07/05/2023 11:27

You absolutely are right to be annoyed. It’s frustrating that people are so inconsiderate to how their actions impact other people. I had a neighbour that did the same and we felt as if we had no privacy the kids would chat to us as they were bouncing - it was sweet but after my own kids were in bed and I just wanted to relax with DH in the garden it was a bit much. There isn’t anything you can do because they do have the right to do as they please in their garden and if there isn’t anywhere else for them to move it then it is what it is BUT what I will say is this won’t be forever. It gets old really quickly and although it might be all summer this year they will move on to something else soon! It’s a novelty right now and kids get bored quick!

MarinatemysoulinSprite · 07/05/2023 11:31

No it isn't.
