Appropriate or not? DS aged 14 would like to invite 2 boys and 2 girls over to camp in our back garden.

YANBU-Not Appropriate
YABU-Absolutely fine if parents are happy with it

Not a chance.

DustyLee123 · 04/05/2023 21:16

It would be no from me, until they’ve done their GCSE’s.

rainraingoawaay · 04/05/2023 21:17

I went to mixed sex sleepovers throughout my teenage years - we were all a close group of friends, not a single inappropriate thing ever happened at one of these sleepovers!

I think if parents are happy with it, why not? Camping in the garden sounds fun!

Tallulasdancingshoes · 04/05/2023 21:18

No way! Teenage hormones running wild and a sleep over are not a good combination. I wouldn’t let my dd come.

icelollycraving · 04/05/2023 21:18

Depends on the teens! Me as a teen? No.

Janedoe82 · 04/05/2023 21:20

Not a chance

Creasedover382 · 04/05/2023 21:21

This is very new territory for us as DS hasn't had any female friends since primary. I didn't even speak to boys until I was at uni (painfully shy!). I've no idea what's considered appropriate. My gut says no.

In separate tents?
Lots of teens will be doing exactly this on their DofE expeditions which is a very alright mumsnet thing to do, and I can assure you that staff are not awake all night supervising!!

Backtobed · 04/05/2023 21:25

Listen to your gut.

cocksstrideintheevening · 04/05/2023 21:25

No chance

BHRK · 04/05/2023 21:25

I had mixed sex sleepovers in my teens, big group of mixed friends. Nothing untoward happened! But if they are going to have sex they will have it anyway, sleepover or not. I’d allow it if all parents are happy

Errmmmmmmmmmmm · 04/05/2023 21:26

it's a no from me.

Beezknees · 04/05/2023 21:26

No, I wouldn't allow this. I have a 15 year old DS. He's a sensible lad but I would not want him in that scenario with underage girls.

TomeTome · 04/05/2023 21:28

No. I can’t imagine any of the parents will agree anyway.

ShouldIbeEmbarrassed · 04/05/2023 21:31

I'd have no problem with it, all sounds like fun.

GenderCriticalTrumpets · 04/05/2023 21:31

Ooh thanks for asking @Creasedover382 because my DS who is 13 wanted to go to a sleepover in a tent at a girls house and I said nooooo wayyyyyyy.

electricmoccasins · 04/05/2023 21:33

Not until 16 / after GCSEs.

Comedycook · 04/05/2023 21:34

No I wouldn't allow this.

BlackieGrey · 04/05/2023 21:35

Lost my virginity in a back garden tent party in year 10 😳

Lamelie · 04/05/2023 21:35

Absolutely not. And I suspect that the voting options are confusing because most parents would not be cool with that.

BlackieGrey · 04/05/2023 21:37

By which I mean no don't let your child do this.

Oysterbabe · 04/05/2023 21:37

Only if separate tents.

Thatbloomindog · 04/05/2023 21:39

I would be fine with this if I knew the parents and the kids involved.
as previous PP said, if they want to have sex they will. Tent party or no tent party.
I’d be more concerned that they stayed in their tents all night and didn’t go on a midnight wander when they thought you were asleep. Or alcohol being smuggled in.
If they are sensible and you’re not worried about that, then I’d allow it.

SirenSays · 04/05/2023 21:39

I'd allow it, I did this most summers as a teen and loved it

CC4712 · 04/05/2023 21:41

I can only go on my own experience. I had mixed sleepovers at my house age 15/16. None of the group were dating, nor had sex/drugs etc. We were just a large group of friends.

Slightly older, my girlfriend and I arrived later in the evening to a party of just boys. It was like lord of the flies! They were all incredibly drunk and left 1 semi-unconscious boy outside, hosed him down and left him on his back vomiting! I put him in the recovery position, got him warm and called his mum.

Only you know your DS and his friends, but sometimes a mixed group can be more sensible.
