Are there any vets about?

I know I should post in the litter tray but I’m desperate for advice or reassurance

much loved cat started making a low moaning miaow this morning like he was in agony. Panting and drooling slightly

took him to the vet and he’s still there. They’ve x rated him and there is a lot of white density in his chest

they are going to ultrasound in the morning. They don’t know what it is maybe fluid or blood. He didn’t have any signs of trauma

I know no one can know and I have to wait till the morning but I’m in bits and just wondered if it could be anything not too terrible and if he’s going to be ok

i realise as I type this it’s a ridiculous question and I have to wait but just hoping someone can magically say “oh it might be xx he will be fine”

I no know one can I’m just so upset. I love him so much 😞

My cat lived for 9 months after being diagnosed with heart failure and HCM. She was heavily medicated, but you'd have never known she was ill. Her heart was 'horrible' according to the cardiologist.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/05/2023 00:08

My cat saw a cardiologist just outside Derby, but I believe she covers most of the East Midlands and Staffordshire, even some of Cheshire.

Just read your update @catgirl1976 I am sorry to hear about Otto. Years ago my cat had the same thing, he was drained and on diuretics, and came home, the fluid did come back after a while so we drained and carried on, this went on for a while until the periods between drains shortened and he had had enough. Clearly I have no idea how poorly otto is, but just wanted to offer a glimmer of hope, he is in the is the best place right now and you have done everything you can, it's bloody heartbreaking when these things happen and I am crossing paws for you and otto that he rallies round and can come home.

VenusStarr · 06/05/2023 06:29

Sending lot of love to you and Otto @catgirl1976 ❤️ hoping for positive updates today. X

ilovesooty · 06/05/2023 07:22

Love to you and Otto x

catgirl1976 · 06/05/2023 16:23

Thank you all

Just had another update. He is still doing well and is breathing normally. He might be able to come home tomorrow and then see how he goes.

He’s hiding under the blanket they gave him and won’t come out but that’s fairly normal he doesn’t like other people much bless him.

Got everything crossed for him. Allowing a little hope into my heart. Thank you all for being so kind

Ooh that sounds quite positive for Otto, OP.

The words "heart failure" are really scary, but all they mean is that the heart is not working as well as it could - not that it has stopped beating altogether.

I am so glad that his breathing is normal now. That's a great improvement.
Poor boy - stuck at the vet's. They do hate it so much.

Medjuel · 07/05/2023 00:44

That's great news, hope he does come home today, all the best OP and Otto 😻

I’ve got everything crossed for him @catgirl1976. What a gorgeous boy. They aren’t just cats, they’re family. Mine is a huge pain but my favourite thing in the world, have told DP I would absolutely take him to court for her if we broke up!

ilovesooty · 07/05/2023 00:59

That does sound positive. I hope he's able to come home soon.

UndercoverCop · 07/05/2023 01:02

This happened to my darling boy when he was about two, they diagnosed heart failure and cardiomyopathy, said it would shorten his life. We lost him last year at the age of 13, he was on meds for the last 18 months, but still jumping our six foot fence until a couple of weeks before. He was a big cat with shiny black fur and beautiful yellow eyes too.
My thoughts are with you

Blondewithredlips · 07/05/2023 03:35

So sorry to hear about Otto. I had a guinea pig with heart failure who lived happily on diuretics and ACE inhibitors.

catgirl1976 · 07/05/2023 16:26

He’s home!!

The vet has said with his medication his outlook is favourable. Back on Thursday for a check up and he will need the medication for life and check ups but that’s fine.

He is very quiet and seems quite out of it but he’s been through a lot so hopefully he will settle. He’s eaten quite a lot so that’s good.

So happy to have him home. I really didn’t think that was going to happen

Thank you all so much for the hand hold and the good wishes for him ❤️🐈‍⬛

FluffyMcFluffFace · 07/05/2023 19:24

So pleased he's home! I had a cat who had heart failure, diabetes, hyperactive thyroid. He cost us a fortune in meds (not insured) but lived on meds for at least 5 years like this until he was 18, so will keep everything crossed for you and him. Xx

ilovesooty · 07/05/2023 19:28
