Are there any vets about?

I know I should post in the litter tray but I’m desperate for advice or reassurance

much loved cat started making a low moaning miaow this morning like he was in agony. Panting and drooling slightly

took him to the vet and he’s still there. They’ve x rated him and there is a lot of white density in his chest

they are going to ultrasound in the morning. They don’t know what it is maybe fluid or blood. He didn’t have any signs of trauma

I know no one can know and I have to wait till the morning but I’m in bits and just wondered if it could be anything not too terrible and if he’s going to be ok

i realise as I type this it’s a ridiculous question and I have to wait but just hoping someone can magically say “oh it might be xx he will be fine”

I no know one can I’m just so upset. I love him so much 😞

What a lovely boy, I do hope you have good news tomorrow and that he’s home soon .

catgirl1976 · 05/05/2023 09:30

The vet has called. No real update. He is still breathing at about 40 respirations a minutes and he is quiet, pale and cold. They did do bloods and they are fine but obviously they know his lungs are not looking right. They will do the ultrasound later this morning and hopefully that will give some clues.

Thank you all for the hand / paw hold. I will update once we know the results of his scan

Oh bless him, hope the scan gives a clear picture 🐈‍⬛

TheShellBeach · 05/05/2023 10:27

Poor little fella.

catgirl1976 · 05/05/2023 18:00

Still no news. Latest was someone would ring me back just after five but no call yet. I’ll give it ten more minutes then call

TheShellBeach · 05/05/2023 18:23

You must be so worried.

PinkFootstool · 05/05/2023 18:36

I hope they have some news for you! I'm sorry, the waiting is hard too.

AutumnNymph · 05/05/2023 20:30

Did you hear back OP?

Daffodilmorning · 05/05/2023 20:33

Hand hold OP Flowers I really hope everything works out ok xx

TheShellBeach · 05/05/2023 21:29

Any news yet? How is he?

LiliLil · 05/05/2023 21:31

I really hope your cat is ok x

catgirl1976 · 05/05/2023 22:06

It’s heart failure

they are treating him with diuretics and have said the next 48 hours will be critical

if he gets through that and improves then maybe he can come home but his prognosis will be guarded

I’m heart broken but still clinging to some hope

Our dog has heart failure. She's on 3 different tablets which are expensive but fortunately we are insured.
They have worked wonders and she has been completely fine for a year.
She then had a deterioration so her medication has been increased and she is well again for now.

catgirl1976 · 05/05/2023 22:26

Thank you @Branchingout2000 that gives me some hope x I’m glad your dog is doing ok x Otto is insured so that’s some good news x

What a lovely, handsome boy.

Heart failure has a better prognosis than if it was a tumour, though there are different possible reasons for the failure and some respond better to treatment than others. I’ve seen lots of animals do well on medication for long periods of time. Tablets can be difficult in cats, but hopefully if they can get him stabilized, you can stick the tablet in a lump of cheese or pate, or something else he likes.

Hope it all goes well.

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/05/2023 22:42

I’m crossing my fingers for Otto op. Everyone with pets knows how you feel - they are family.

catgirl1976 · 05/05/2023 22:47

Thank you all so much x. Jus rotating we can get Him home next week and he can be treated

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 05/05/2023 22:52

I’m hoping not rotating 🙄. My phone hates me

OP posts:
TheShellBeach · 05/05/2023 22:53

If the diuretics get it under control, he could be okay.
I really hope he pulls through.

catgirl1976 · 05/05/2023 23:11

Thank you @TheShellBeach

ill update tomorrow - they’ve said they will call us Saturday and Sunday for an update so that’s good

Sending very best wishes to you and your lovely cat.

My cat was diagnosed with HCM and was in congestive heart failure in 2015. He’s still here and very happy now.

catgirl1976 · 05/05/2023 23:18

@GodspeedJune thank you - I’m so happy your cat is ok and it gives me hope for Otto. Missing him so much

GodspeedJune · 05/05/2023 23:42

Will keep all fingers and toes crossed for Otto. Is he insured? There are veterinary cardiologists who are very knowledgeable - I can recommend one if you’re anywhere near to Cambridge.

catgirl1976 · 05/05/2023 23:47

Thank you I’m not near Cambridge but he is insured x
