To be annoyed that modern clothes cater almost entirely for larger people?

Needed some new jeans over the weekend - I am about a 27"-28" waist. Most shops (in the big city shopping mall I visited) had only jeans in the 30s" and up- i.e. too big. I eventually managed to find some 20s in TX Maxx - about 10 jeans in that range, squeezed on the end of a rack catering entirely for 30-35s.

Then later I had to take a couple of pairs back as I didn't realise they made were of that horrible stretchy denim which ends up falling down my arse after walking for 5 minutes.

Same with tshirts - I used to be a Medium, now modern Mediums are far too large and baggy, so I've had to shift to Small. As usual, the vast majority of clothes racks are taken up by Mediums and Larges.

Only thing I can think is that as people have gotten fatter the clothes industry has shifted to cater for that. As for online shopping - had far too many problems to buy clthes onlines, esp if they're made for the US market... think I'd be a XX Small there. 😂

Alas for you.

Doggymummar · 03/05/2023 22:21

Yes you are incorrect

Curtains70 · 03/05/2023 22:21

No I haven't found that

DietCokeUser · 03/05/2023 22:22

This is just sod's law, isn't it? Everyone feels that shops have sold out of their size alone because that's the only one you're specifically looking for.

Okunevo · 03/05/2023 22:23

I think you need to try shops that cater to teenagers to young adults like Hollister and River Island. Rapunai also go down to an XS in t-shirts.

gawditswindy · 03/05/2023 22:23

I've not found that at all. Some shops cater more for smaller sizes and some for larger but generally I find all are well served.

HeddaGarbled · 03/05/2023 22:25

Utter nonsense.

Tinkerbyebye · 03/05/2023 22:25

shops have loads of clothes in in smaller sizes

PotatoSoufle · 03/05/2023 22:25

What kind of shops are you in? Primark, New Look, Lipsy etc all seem to have much more small stuff than large stuff.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 03/05/2023 22:26

Is this just a stealth boast about how slim you are? My dd is tiny and never seems to have a problem finding clothes that fit.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 03/05/2023 22:26

Go to H&M or River Island

chezpopbang · 03/05/2023 22:26

Life must just be impossible for you

NCGrandParent · 03/05/2023 22:27

Sizing is so inconsistent between shops and sometimes even within shops that I don't think anyone has a good time finding what they need these days .... I usually click and collect these days for places that I know the sizing. Haven't been in a physical shop for planned shop for years now.

Unbridezilla · 03/05/2023 22:27

I'm a 27/28 waist and find it easy to by jeans tbh. It's one of the more common sizes. I do struggle with finding trousers that fit both waist and bum though

Dotcheck · 03/05/2023 22:28

Well, order clothes in smaller sizes?
You can shop online these days and get a huge range of sizes. You may want to try Brandy Melville

Wispawispawispa · 03/05/2023 22:28

I’m a size 16/18, most shops never have my size left on the rail. Always plenty of 8s and 10s. Don’t get me started on shoes either, never any size 8s left.

Swingwhenyourewinning · 03/05/2023 22:28

Yanbu I am not a small person and I am finding myself in medium / small tops in super dry

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/05/2023 22:28

How awful for you 🙄

Okunevo · 03/05/2023 22:28

There is a particularly annoying size gap for boys who are an adult height but where the boys' clothes are too wide after outgrowing an age 12 in length. You do have to look for the shops that do smaller men's sizes, can't just go to the supermarket.

27-28 inch waist sounds like a man. It's an 8-10 in women's so not particularly small.

DeadbeatYoda · 03/05/2023 22:30

This is such nonsense I can only assume it's some sort of bizarre stealth-boast. It simply isn't true, at all.

Coffeeandbourbons · 03/05/2023 22:31

For me it’s more about the shape of the clothing. I have a small waist but curvy hips, and find it impossible to buy anything that goes over the hips but fits snugly around the waist. Everything seems to be cut for apple shaped women.

flirtygirl · 03/05/2023 22:32

ANOTHER Op on crack....

Putyourdamnshoeson · 03/05/2023 22:39

This is undoubtedly a man. In women's sizing these measurements are standard and easy to get hold of.

My DH has a 28/30 waist and a 35 leg. He would never hope to get anything on our high street. He knows it's order online only and choice is often limited. Which does suck, because he is not actually unusual, I see plenty of guys our age (early 40s) older and younger who look similar.
