To be annoyed that modern clothes cater almost entirely for larger people?

Needed some new jeans over the weekend - I am about a 27"-28" waist. Most shops (in the big city shopping mall I visited) had only jeans in the 30s" and up- i.e. too big. I eventually managed to find some 20s in TX Maxx - about 10 jeans in that range, squeezed on the end of a rack catering entirely for 30-35s.

Then later I had to take a couple of pairs back as I didn't realise they made were of that horrible stretchy denim which ends up falling down my arse after walking for 5 minutes.

Same with tshirts - I used to be a Medium, now modern Mediums are far too large and baggy, so I've had to shift to Small. As usual, the vast majority of clothes racks are taken up by Mediums and Larges.

Only thing I can think is that as people have gotten fatter the clothes industry has shifted to cater for that. As for online shopping - had far too many problems to buy clthes onlines, esp if they're made for the US market... think I'd be a XX Small there. 😂

Why would it necessarily be a man if it is a wind up? Most slight men would prefer not to be built like teenage boys I'd say so it's hardly some kind of boast.

It's not a boast, it's a wind up. There's about a zillion of them right now. We must have rattled a cage somewhere in the MRA subreddits.

If that IS the case, maybe it's because they're smug, snidey, sarcastic, goady fat-bashing individuals who love to post banal threads bashing anyone over a size 8, and label them as greedy, slow, stupid, and a bit common. Plenty of threads being started with this theme this week. Don't even TRY to pretend it's not true coz it is. WAY more fat bashing than thin bashing on this site. THIN bashing only pops up when someone has fat bashed first.

Maybe, but some people are trying to genuinely pose a different pov and getting bashed for being fat-shaming haggard "skinnies" when they've never said anything of the sort. Someone isn't nice, doesn't give people an excuse to attack everyone else 🤷‍♀️

But why do you think it's a man not a woman if it's not true?

anunlikelyseahorse · 03/05/2023 23:59

Just get a belt.

And eat some more boiled eggs.

I think you're either new here, or on a wind up yourself. Either way, I'm bored.

And eat some more boiled eggs.

I can't imagine getting any enjoyment from a boiled egg. My mum always told me I'd like them when I got a bit older. Still waiting for it to happen!

IDontWantToBeAPie · 04/05/2023 00:08

I mean it doesn't cater to me apparently. I've always been a 30-32 waist and for some reason (haven't gained weight) I don't even fit in a 38 right now.. I've measured and my waist is a 32. I tried the 40 on as still needed new jeans and they were massive on me.

So somehow I'm a 32 waist who is too big for a 38 waist but too small for a 40 waist.

Clothes sizes have just gone mental recently.

IDontWantToBeAPie · 04/05/2023 00:08

Try mango. They had 28 waist - if they fit that is.

TheOrigRights · 04/05/2023 00:10

I'm slim and never have any problem at all buying clothes.

Jourdain11 · 04/05/2023 00:11

My personal complaint is more with the design than the available sizes. All jeans at the moment seem to look like a high rise pair of sacks.

Propagandalf · 04/05/2023 00:11

@KookyNotOoky had her 27" arse handed over to her.
@KookyNotOoky did a post-and-run.
@KookyNotOoky isn't returning to this thread.

Happyhappyday · 04/05/2023 00:13

I haven’t found that, 5’4”, 8.5 stone. Oh, and American, but plenty of size small clothes to fit me so I guess we’re not all whatever offensive thing you’re insinuating we are…

I can't imagine getting any enjoyment from a boiled egg. My mum always told me I'd like them when I got a bit older. Still waiting for it to happen!

Have you mashed two up in a cup with butter and salt? Delicious. But then I’m still waiting to be adult enough to enjoy coffee.

Jourdain11 · 04/05/2023 00:29

Oh no, coffee I could not live without! It does objectively taste like poison though. I think you have to start quite young and with a lot of milk.

I quite enjoy things that have a really harsh taste, like kombucha and cornichons and physics (not all together). My friend was a bit confused the other day when I bought some kombucha and said, "it tastes so weird, I'm totally addicted".

Boiled eggs I can't reconcile myself to. I like eggs with things and in things, like omelette or frittata and cake but I don't really love them on their own.

Jourdain11 · 04/05/2023 00:30

Physics = physalis. I do not enjoy physics.

SamShortForSambuca · 04/05/2023 00:33

The thing I struggle with is being short. I take a 28" inside leg for jeans, and most shops don't cater for anything under 30".

It was a bloody tragedy when Topshop, Miss Selfridge and Dorothy Perkins all went simultaneously; they all had good petite ranges. Primark used to do them but they seem to have stopped.

Now my high street options are pretty much New Look, River Island and M&S, unless you have money to burn.

Anyone who suggests the children's section can get to fuck; I have hips, and clothes cut for 10 year olds don't fit in that area. And, frankly, I'm an adult woman and I want to shop in the adult women's section.

Jourdain11 · 04/05/2023 00:34

Have you tried FatFace or Uniqlo?

ClairDeLaLune · 04/05/2023 00:36

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 03/05/2023 22:26

Is this just a stealth boast about how slim you are? My dd is tiny and never seems to have a problem finding clothes that fit.

Umm yes. Poor OP. I’m a size minus 4 and buy all my clothes in the baby department so I’m fine. I don’t pay VAT on clothes, so fuck you fatties!

chaosmaker · 04/05/2023 01:18

If clothes were all made for fat people, sleeves on t-shirts wouldn't be pathetic cap things that let your bingo wings fly free!

Siwa · 04/05/2023 01:25

I went to TK Maxx and all the best stuff is small or extrasmall, so no. They even had Nudie jeans! I was gutted it was a small. They're a pair that are supposed to last for years.

Jacopo · 04/05/2023 01:38

I don’t think it’s difficult to find small/slim sizes in clothes but I very definitely think manufacturers have stopped catering for people with slim feet. They used to make shoes in 7 widths (A to G) and now they only make them in Standard (equivalent to D), Wide, Extra Wide and XXWide.

theblackradiator · 04/05/2023 01:38

I've always been a size 8 and I do manage to find clothes without any problem. but I do find there does seem to be much more availability of the larger sizes. Or maybe it is because they've already sold most of the smaller sizes rather than made less.

knitnerd90 · 04/05/2023 02:29

Oh, this is funny.

If I go shopping here in America the shops are full of size 0s and even 00s. Unless you go somewhere aiming at the over-40s; then they won't have anything smaller than a 6-8. I can't think of anywhere besides Lane Bryant I can't find less than a 12. (Add 4 to all of these for UK sizing, of course). I don't even bother shopping in-person in some shops as they never have any sizes over 10 in-store. Even when you can order them online -- they want the money but don't want bigger people in the shop! I'm not slim, I'm towards the top of the regular size range, but my teenager is smaller. Some shops/brands vanity size much more than others.

And all the cheaply made tat like Shein is based on Asian sizing, i.e. extra small.

Anaemiafog · 04/05/2023 02:38

I'm a 4/6. It's easy on line to shop and most clothes shops start at a 6 now so I don't understand your logic. If there aren't any clothes in your size surely that's because they've sold out, not because they weren't there in the first place to make room for larger sizes.
