Flaunting bras in summer dresses

Is this a current trend? Over the last couple of weeks, I've seen dozens of women wearing dresses that show their bras. Not just straps but strapless or low-backed dresses with a giant M&S boulder holder with the straps, top of the front, and most of the back showing. Back in my day, I never saw anyone dressing like that. Has this become the new standard, or am I simply experiencing an odd fashion phenomenon?

... a giant M&S boulder holder with the straps...

Have you been reading Judy Blume? Grin

It's not a great look but strapless bras are usually uncomfortable IMO. My DD uses something called boob tape, which lifts them up, covers the nips and is easy to use.

Twisting · 03/05/2023 21:57

I have worn strapless bras for occasions calling for strapless dresses/tops, but they used to kind of pull my boobs down and flatten them.

I have never had the kind of boobs tape would work on. Unless maybe packing tape, hoiked up round my neck.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/05/2023 22:00

As long as the bra is clean and not so old it’s falling to bits I can’t see the problem!

It’s just another item of clothing. Would you prefer it if they wore no bra? On paper that would be showing more than they are with the bra strap on show.

Barbecuebeans · 03/05/2023 22:00

Flaunting? Really? Make sure your smelling salts are close to hand at all times..

I'm just boggled how anyone can wear the completely strapless dresses and look good in them with or without a bra.
Without a bra - saggy look unless very young or very flat chested
With a strapless bra - see above as none can actually hoick your boobs up to where they would be with a bra with shoulder straps.

Boob job

Nobsandnockers · 03/05/2023 22:20

Didn’t it come from wearing crop tops or vest/ tee shirts under dresses. I wouldn’t wear it to work (teacher) but who cares?

MrsSkylerWhite · 03/05/2023 22:21

I think it’s ugly too 🤷‍♀️

Linkydink · 03/05/2023 22:26

Boulder holder 😂

Tinpanalley · 03/05/2023 22:29

And so how should we be dressing OP, with a fuller bust? Covering up? So long as I have a clean bra with appropriate straps, I’m afraid I’ll be bra flaunting 🙄as you put it, if I see fit to wear a strappy dress.

Stravaig · 03/05/2023 22:30

If it's here to stay, it's going to take time for society to adjust. After all, for centuries, perhaps millennia, visible underwear was basically street signage, advertising your profession 🤷‍♀️

Blessedbethefruitz · 03/05/2023 22:32

You should see me on the nursery pick up walk, breastfeeding bra straps showing (because i use a baby carrier and will sweat to death on the walk home) and non wired 28e cups bouncing after 10 hours (compressed days) of work 😁It's not a fashion choice for everyone, but even if it is, so what?

People need to be less judgemental of women in public spaces - we all have the right to be comfortable (if decent), and if it's not an ass crack or nipple (god forbid), what's the problem? I should think the odd greying bra strap or unplucked eyebrow is a testament to the overwork many women suffer today, especially mothers or carers, rather than something to be sneered at.

Tinpanalley · 03/05/2023 22:33

A strap is a strap, whether it’s attached to a dress or a bra. What’s the problem?

Not a problem with regards to morality but a problem with regards to dressing well. It just looks shit. Just as badly fitting clothes look shit.

Circe32 · 03/05/2023 22:57

Personally I wouldn't wear a bra that showed over a top, unless it was specifically designed to do so, as I think it looks tacky. As a plus sized person, I would also choose to wear a nipple shield to ensure that my top would be smooth and look to it's best. I would prefer anyone to think "oh my, that material is lovely and has such a gorgeous colour" rather than "oh, my! her boobs are crinkly!.

BadNomad · 03/05/2023 23:36

It's just physics. Strapless dresses don't work with free-range big boobs.

AnObserverInThisDarkWorld · 04/05/2023 00:34

The misogyny is coming from inside the house

Stop judging women who want to wear pretty, floaty, summery clothes but also have boobs that need restraining

NotMeSecretFormular · 04/05/2023 00:54

If I didn’t wear a bra with a low cut back dress then I'd be going tits akimbo at the front. Yes, people will see the back band of my bra. They'll also likely see the straps. Possibly not colour matching. But also my huge back tattoo. Shock horror, I hope all involved have pearls to clutch. I’m not shy about low cut tops (big of boob) or mini skirts either. People rarely get dressed in the dark. Tits are a thing. You've got some too. Pretty sure you're aware of what might be supporting them in various ways.
Dirty pillows out Grin

‘flaunting’ !

‘Boulder holder’ !!

Hello hairy hands !!!

LadyFlumpalot · 03/05/2023 18:33

I tend to wear front clasping bras with pretty lace backs or straps so I definitely flaunt them under my summer dresses 🤣

Where do you get them from?! I had a frozen shoulder 10 years ago for 4 years and couldnt get them anywhere, at least not in my size (32B). I still find bra straps a struggle due to it.

PyongyangKipperbang · 04/05/2023 01:11

Over the shoulder boulder holder
Upper decker flopper stopper

All terms we used as teens when we were being "hilarious" !!

mathanxiety · 04/05/2023 01:14

I'm amazed you've never seen this before now.

Also pretty flabbergasted by your use of the word 'flaunting'. It's very DMish.

PyongyangKipperbang · 04/05/2023 01:16

And imo what is worse is men walking around in shorts and trainers. Nothing else, probably commando too.

Yes its hot, we get it but I really dont want to see your sweaty torso. FFS resorts have rules about t his in places a damned sight hotter than a town centre in the UK, they have to wear a shirt in those resorts if they are not by the pool, why the hell shouldnt they in a branch of Boots in Birmingham?!

HarrietSchulenberg · 04/05/2023 01:22

I agree with OP. If you're going to wear a backless dress, wear a backless bra with it, or no bra. A pretty summer dress with a wodge of old, grey nylon webbing across the back ruins the whole thing. It's not about being horrified by women's underwear, it's about having an otherwise lovely outfit ruined by what looks like a thoughtless mistake.

Depends how big your boobs are, I'd love to do this and do have strapless bras but they are so uncomfortable and not that effective either (I'm a GG and have a tiny torso, think Dolly Parton or similar)
