Flaunting bras in summer dresses

Is this a current trend? Over the last couple of weeks, I've seen dozens of women wearing dresses that show their bras. Not just straps but strapless or low-backed dresses with a giant M&S boulder holder with the straps, top of the front, and most of the back showing. Back in my day, I never saw anyone dressing like that. Has this become the new standard, or am I simply experiencing an odd fashion phenomenon?

I'm an E cup and get really frustrated when so many dresses haven't been designed to cover a bra. We can't all go braless and I wouldn't buy a dress if it meant I was showing the back strap of my bra.

MadamMadeleine · 03/05/2023 18:51

My grandma used to say, stop showing your bra, we are not Madonna Blush. It didn't stop me.

BackOfTheMum5net · 03/05/2023 18:55

I can remember my mum being equally horrified 20 years ago! 😂

So no, I wouldn’t say it’s a new thing… though all fashions come around.

GoodVibesHere · 03/05/2023 18:55

Maybe people are saving a bit of money, I mean it is expensive to buy strapless or multi-way bras. Years ago it would've been a faux pas to have bra sraps showing but these days (thankfully) women feel much more free to do as they please.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 03/05/2023 18:56

I'm an f cup, I need to wear a proper bra. I wouldn't have the cups showing, but if the straps or back are showing who really gives a shit.

funnelfan · 03/05/2023 18:57

If you mean - wearing a standard, non-glamorous, slightly greying bra on full show alongside a pretty strapless summer dress, then YANBU if it has the same impact as if you were wearing the dress over an old pair of joggers or trainers previously used for walking the dog in muddy fields. Kind of - why bother making the effort?

If the bra is in fancy fabric and "designed to be seen", then you're probably BU but I know what you mean about wearing a strapless dress with standard strapped bra, but then perhaps that's a new trend that I'm too old for, having had similar reactions to wearing black bras under white tops in the 1990s.

I’ve got big boobs and I wouldn’t feel comfortable walking and running around all day with no bra on (I’m sure I’d be accused of flaunting my assets too).

I do try and find dresses that cover the strap at the back but it’s very difficult and I’ll usually wear it with a cardi but sometimes I’ll take it off.

I don’t dress for your or anyone else and so I don’t care if you can see my bra strap.

SoupDragon · 03/05/2023 18:59

"Flaunting" 😂😂 you should write for the tabloids. women are always flaunting something there.

3dogsandarabbit · 03/05/2023 19:00

I saw a young teenager 13/14 in town yesterday who was wearing a vest top which was very low cut. The bra she was wearing was on show, and was one I have seen in Ann Summers. I felt really uncomfortable seeing it on a girl that age.

ladydimitrescu · 03/05/2023 19:04

Damn women and their constant flaunting

One of the only places to get properly measured in My city so I wouldn’t be surprised at all. It’s that or M&S if you want to be fitted we used so have a wider variety of places to get fitted but now that’s it.

Flaunting 🤦‍♀️

Are men flaunting their nipples when they go topless??? Of course not. Have a word with yourself.

To be fair seeing a naked male torso in the supermarket on a summer's day is pretty yuk. I totally agree with shops which have no shirt-no entry policies

mumda · 03/05/2023 19:09

You are somewhere warmer than here
Still best weather.

scrivette · 03/05/2023 19:09

Ohh yes I had forgotten about 'flaunting' the back of my g-string in my low rise jeans. They had diamantés on them and were meant for 'flaunting!'

faffadoodledo · 03/05/2023 19:09

Loved an off the shoulder top in the 1980s which flaunted a bra strap.
Flaunt is a real Daily Mail word isn't it?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 03/05/2023 19:11

Really can't get offended by this. Strapless bras aren't comfy for me. I don't intentionally "flaunt" my bra but if someone gets a tiny peek of a bit of the strap I couldn't care less.
HTH

Toottooot · 03/05/2023 19:12

Flaunting - surely you mean ‘showcasing their assets?’ 💁🏻‍♀️

Gymtastic · 03/05/2023 19:14

Flaunting and boulder holder, who says that for goodness sake.

shock horror you can see the top,of their bra and the straps. It’s hardly flaunting.

and the word is bra. As you’re clearly confused. Not boulder holder. Not unless you’re an elderly bloke of low intelligence.

MrsToothyBitch · 03/05/2023 19:14

I have big boobs. I wish I could hide my bras!

GoodChat · 03/05/2023 19:15

Let me guess, you can manage without a bra?

Sorry if mine offends you, but my tits are worse Grin

AgnesX · 03/05/2023 19:17

I'm guessing you're of a generation where showing brastraps was a no-no. Personally I'm not looking forward to the grubby ones. The last hot spell some sights didn't appear to have seen soap in a while!

ModestMoon · 03/05/2023 19:19

Before kids my breasts were too big to manage without a bra. Post kids they're small enough, but way too saggy. My back looks great though, why should I not wear a backless dress?

ShowUs · 03/05/2023 19:19
Big Boobs GIF

At least I’m not showing my bra strap.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 03/05/2023 19:30

Try wearing something pretty and scrappy after a mastectomy. Hollow laugh.

My bras all swivel due to the weight of a silicon foob or the boost injection moulded one peeks up over the top. Or even the scars showing. Gasp the horror!

So I've given up worrying about what other people think. As long as the colour vaguely goes then I don't give a shiny shit whether my straps or back shows. I have enough to worry about.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 03/05/2023 19:31

It's not something I would do but I wouldn't even notice someone else 🙄
