We are not and I feel bad for it especially as I know so many who are.
We are on a tight budget so can't really afford to be doing much either.

Me. But I don't feel bad for it. I am intentionally treating it as a normal weekend, though DH is away on holiday so it will be quieter than usual. Planning to go clothes shopping on Saturday and hoping it will be less busy! I'll be working on the Monday. My employer doesn't really do bank holidays, and I've got lots of work to do!

VisionsOfSplendour · 03/05/2023 13:28

Have I missed a memo? Is there some kind of expectation that we should all be doing things, the premise of your question is strange.

ohtowinthelottery · 03/05/2023 13:30

Nothing planned. Might make a coronation quiche and a cake. There's music on at our local hostelry so might go there for a drink.

I remember for the VE celebrations during lockdown I made scones and sandwiches. I cut triangles out of A4 paper and painted red, white and blue pennants which I strung up in the garden whilst we had our food. All very low cost (already had the paint). Weather not looking brilliant this weekend though so i think we'll be eating indoors if I do anything like that. I do have some bunting which I made for the Jubilee which I'll be bringing out again.

Smileyoriley · 03/05/2023 13:30

Can't wait till it's all done and dusted. I've put my name down for some agency shifts but wish I had booked a break abroad somewhere.

Laiste · 03/05/2023 13:31

Bimbom · 03/05/2023 13:23

Don't worry OP, you can still celebrate on a tight budget, pledging allegiance to the King is free. That's why he wants the nation to do it, because it's something everybody can get involved in, even if they can't afford to eat. It's wonderfully inclusive.

lol

Maybe he should have had some of the royal quiches sent out to food banks.

LadyKenya · 03/05/2023 13:31

I am doing nothing specific to celebrate this expensive shower, but I will probably go for a walk, and admire all the beautiful flowers that are showing their finery.😄

LadyJ2023 · 03/05/2023 13:33

Why feel bad? Me my own family and extended couldn't care two hoots and will continue to enjoy a family day out lol

Laiste · 03/05/2023 13:33

gamerchick · 03/05/2023 13:27

Working so couldn't even if I wanted to. Not that I would want to do anything if the weather's shit.

Is it!? <hopeful>

Is it meant to be wet?

YouNeverSeeTheRealMe · 03/05/2023 13:34

I'm not doing anything at all. We're struggling financially, living on £1060 a month before paying DDs etc (no mortgage or rent, thankfully)

frustratednomad · 03/05/2023 13:34

Taking tiles off the bathroom walls saturday and sunday, bbq on monday as it's dd's birthday. Couldn't give a flying fig about the coronation despite the media tying itself into a frenzy over it.

mastertomsmum · 03/05/2023 13:35

DS revising and DH and I both work for the uni so we don’t get the bank holiday Monday off just get an extra day in our leave allocation. So 3 bank holiday Mondays in May is quite irritating, why do they always have to be then rather than usefully placed in the summer holiday period?

I might watch some of the coverage of the coronation, but will continue decluttering upstairs and make cups off tea and snacks for the DS while he’s revising.

BarbedButterfly · 03/05/2023 13:38

Well we have plans but I don't have the slightest interest in the coronation.

WinchSparkle80 · 03/05/2023 13:39

Making an afternoon tea as it’s my absolute favourite “meal” and DS very into the Coronation so will watch on TV. In reality he will be bored after 10 mins so be watching Suits… and cleaning and selling stuff on Vinted.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 03/05/2023 13:41

I'm not interested in the coronation at all, hate the monarchy.

I will hopefully have a lazy Saturday morning in bed, drinking tea and reading, then a bit of gardening if the weather is okay, or some baking if not. Maybe watch a film on Netflix. It's the first Saturday I haven't had a lot of chores and duty visits in a long while, so I'll really enjoy it.

For the rest of the weekend I'm going out for a meal, and to the cinema.

You feel bad because you're too poor to celebrate a ceremony for a billionaire. Can you not see the issue here?

This 100%

furryfrontbottom · 03/05/2023 13:44

RagzRebooted · 03/05/2023 13:16

Same. I'd quite like throw an anti-monarchy party (seen some great t-shirts!) but don't know enough like-minded people. If there was a street party here, I'd probably go just to be neighbourly though. DCs have asked if we can have a party/BBQ just because they want one and DS1 is studying history so he might watch the 'hatonatwat' ceremony for historical purposes.

Hatonatwat ceremony beautifully sums it up, thank you for that!

Whatafool123 · 03/05/2023 13:45

Nothing specific planned, but our town will televise the event and have kids things going on, so might go along to that with DS(5). DD(13) is off to a street party with a school friend, so she's sorted.

It's a historical event, so I would like the kids to be aware of it and involved, plus the schools are head over heels about it, so might as well get in the spirit.

I'm not a massive royal watcher, but appreciate a bit of pomp and ceremony now amd again (admittedly, there's been rather a lot in the last couple of years).

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 03/05/2023 13:47

No. Could not be less interested in the colossal waste of at least 250 million quid which could have been better spent on saving lives and getting sick children the medical help they so desperately need but cant access because the NHS is broken. My own v sick child included.

Nonverbalmum · 03/05/2023 13:50

We won’t be doing anything specific. DH has a role in the coronation and has been away for nearly three weeks ‘preparing’ and being on my own with the kids hasn’t left me feeling overly enthused to celebrate. We have thunder and lightning forecast the Saturday and Sunday so unlikely to much of that’s right.

Kate? Is that you?
Wink

StonwEd · 03/05/2023 13:53

camping and avoiding the whole thing. No TV, no technology, not interested

TheWernethWife · 03/05/2023 13:54

We are off to John Lewis in Cheadle, may pop into Waitrose on the way home.

I come from a long line of yorkshire farmers and who didn't tug forelocks, I am not a serf and I am nobody's subject .

Military wife? You have my every sympathy.

Laiste · 03/05/2023 13:55

I'm really wondering what would take 3 whole weeks of full time prep away from home before the coronation ....

I'm not doubting you. Just wondering!

redspottedmug · 03/05/2023 14:00

I loved the Queen, but I really think that the monarchy is now irrelevant, its time has come to a natural end.

So I will watch on tv with my M&S shortbread, and bid farewell to the institution.
