We are not and I feel bad for it especially as I know so many who are.
We are on a tight budget so can't really afford to be doing much either.

OP posts:

I’m going in to work, running a food bank. I wasn’t going for overt symbolism but there we are.

mondaytosunday · 03/05/2023 13:03

There's a street party do might go along. All we have to do is bring our food and some to share so not a big deal.

Lobelia123 · 03/05/2023 13:06

Out here in the colonies we really dont care. Its a regular day for us :)

Riapia · 03/05/2023 13:07

CalistoNoSolo · 03/05/2023 12:18

No. For many, many reasons. But mainly because I'm not a forelock-tugging serf.

You will still remain a subject of His Majesty King Charles III.
Hope knowing this will brighten your day just a little.
😉😁😁

girlfriend44 · 03/05/2023 13:08

of course some people are doing nothing. Not everyone is into the Royals as you know.

UrsulaBelle · 03/05/2023 13:10

Fuck that for a game of soldiers! (Pun intended.) We're escaping the street party to go to the cinema, which is also horrifically expensive, but it'll be worth it. I've got to remember to move my car the night before so we don't get trapped in.

Mephisneon · 03/05/2023 13:13

I'm not. I'll enjoy a bank holiday but I'd rather we'd got rid of them like the French did. They're parasites so I won't celebrate. Interestingly my local community centre has just put out a Facebook Post cancelling an afternoon tea due to lack of interest. I really think enthusiasm is low and that's not just because I hate the royals😂

Gettingbysomehow · 03/05/2023 13:14

I'm not doing nothing. My friend is coming over and we're going to blitz the garden and take stuff to the dump.

londonrach · 03/05/2023 13:15

Tbh I don't think many people are doing anything. I'm not but I'm looking forward to seeing that gold coach. Apart from that not really that interesting so we probably have TV on the background

QueefQueen80s · 03/05/2023 13:16

Nothing

Same. I'd quite like throw an anti-monarchy party (seen some great t-shirts!) but don't know enough like-minded people. If there was a street party here, I'd probably go just to be neighbourly though. DCs have asked if we can have a party/BBQ just because they want one and DS1 is studying history so he might watch the 'hatonatwat' ceremony for historical purposes.

finallygotospeaktoSky · 03/05/2023 13:17

Normal weekend, have no interest in any of the royals.

Neededanewuserhandle · 03/05/2023 13:17

surely-not-too-distant day we are a republic
I wouldn't hold your breath.

Crunchymum · 03/05/2023 13:18

Normal weekend for us, with an extra day tagged on the end.

Nothing remotely royal related planned.

Ditto.

JamSandle · 03/05/2023 13:20

I'm going up London for the coronation and then spending some time at the beach. I love a bank holiday! Then again, who doesn't?

Bimbom · 03/05/2023 13:23

Don't worry OP, you can still celebrate on a tight budget, pledging allegiance to the King is free. That's why he wants the nation to do it, because it's something everybody can get involved in, even if they can't afford to eat. It's wonderfully inclusive.

Laiste · 03/05/2023 13:24

I would love to be having nothing to do with the damn coronation.

However unfortunately youngest DDs school is very into it and so is our village with parades and blessings and a blinkin' great fete in the field right opposite our house🙄90% of DDs school friends will be at the fete dressed up as princes and princesses so i would feel bad to ignore all that.

Add to this the school has specifically requested that the children be allowed to watch at least a little of the coronation on Sat.

Sigh.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/05/2023 13:24

I'm a republican, so am not doing anything related to the Coronation. On Saturday, during the ceremony, I'm helping DS2 move house 4 hours drive away. On Sunday, when our neighbours are having a street party, I'm taking him and his gf to IKEA and then driving the r hours home again.

I'm.going to relax on BH Monday, maybe DH. and I will go to the beach.

I suspect the majority of the country won't be doing anything special. If you really want to, you and your dc can watch it on TV and have a picnic in the garden afterwards. That won't cost anything.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/05/2023 13:25

What do you feel as though you should be doing?

Im not doing anything for the coronation.

sleepismyhobby · 03/05/2023 13:26

We're not doing anything both myself and dh are working on the Monday. And basically we couldn't care less about the royals

gamerchick · 03/05/2023 13:27

Working so couldn't even if I wanted to. Not that I would want to do anything if the weather's shit.

TheNameIsDickDarlington · 03/05/2023 13:27

Nothing Coronation related. We've got a big family weekend as its a few family birthdays this weekend so we will be attending many parties. I'm really hoping nobody puts on the coronation and we can just ignore it and focus on celebrating the people who I actually know and love rather than a millionaire I've never met.

If the weather is nice could your family go for a picnic or out for a walk along a local forest or beach or similar? Or do you specifically want to do something Coronation themed?

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 03/05/2023 13:27

Climbing a mountain or possibly two if the weather is ok, doing some gardening, doing some knitting, having lunch with my republican adult DC, sorting out the airing cupboard in readiness for a new hot water tank.

Working as normal on Monday.

Not sure if that's doing nothing or doing something?
