We are not and I feel bad for it especially as I know so many who are.
We are on a tight budget so can't really afford to be doing much either.

OP posts:

There's a party up at the community centre which a lot of friends will be going to, and they'll probably be assuming I'm going too. But I'll be staying home watching on telly by myself while I make my outfit for Eurovision. Priorities!!

charabang · 03/05/2023 12:37

I don't have anything planned but I am making my own afternoon tea so I can enjoy it whilst watching the ceremony. Not a flag waving Royalist but I do want to witness this moment in history.

Urg, horrible old Charlie and Camilla are the least appealing, grimmest "tampon" couple EVER, neither of whom are worthy of my time, attention or bloody obeisance! Not very literary, but frankly they can do one :)

I hope it rains all over their waste of money self-indulgent day (but that I get some sun here so I can raise a glass to the surely-not-too-distant day we are a republic!)

Don't sweat it OP, this nonsense isn't worth anyone's time.

What's a tampon couple?

Crumbcatcher · 03/05/2023 12:38

I was planning to watch it on TV with DD who is interested in history, but I've just realised it's on Saturday not Monday, so we'll be out at usual activities.

Wisterical · 03/05/2023 12:39

You feel bad because you're too poor to celebrate a ceremony for a billionaire. Can you not see the issue here?

Inkpotlover · 03/05/2023 12:41

We're off to see Guardians of the Galaxy on Friday night then we're having a relaxed weekend pottering around the garden. I have zero interest in watching millions of pounds being spaffed on a one-hour ceremony while people are struggling to feed their kids.

Sistanotcista · 03/05/2023 12:41

Yup, normal weekend for us too. I'm not a royalist, though.

ElizabethBest · 03/05/2023 12:42

We're just going to do some gardening and eat a roast dinner. I might stick up some bunting for DS, as his school are going all out so he's sort of expecting it.

Oh, I am also making the coronation quiche, but DS loves quiche so I also make a quiche most weekends.

AutumnNymph · 03/05/2023 12:43

It will be a usual Saturday for us, not doing anything coronation related. As PPs said, not a serf and won't be swearing my allegienace at a 125 million pound shambles when people are struggling to meet bills. I won't be watching it on TV either as that feels like I in some way support the absolutely ridiculous spend.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/05/2023 12:44

Normal weekend here too.

AutumnNymph · 03/05/2023 12:44

P. S I may be grumbling and muttering all day about the outrageous money being spent, the tone deafness etc etc, does that count as doing. Something?

Phos · 03/05/2023 12:45

We'll watch it because my daughter is interested and I like stuff like this but we're not doing any street party or anything like that.

User5438790 · 03/05/2023 12:45

I'm not and DH is going to be spending the time clearing out the garage as the weather doesn't look to good anyway so he will be spending Sunday afternoon going to the tip, hopefully. I did buy a Coronation Colin cake though to keep DH's energy up.

Google Prince Charles tampon
It's safe for work.

Cornishclio · 03/05/2023 12:50

Nothing special but I might watch a bit on TV and our town is doing a street fair with screens up so we may wander down to that.

Letsdance8188 · 03/05/2023 12:52

We're busy because we're away for the weekend, and I'm glad to be away from all the coronation shit that's going on in our village.

kingtamponthefurred · 03/05/2023 12:53

It will be a normal working Saturday here.

Nordicrain · 03/05/2023 12:53

Not doing much. Our village cricket pitch is doing a picnic on the Sunday which we will go to if it doesn't rain as everyone tends to go and the kids can play with their friends etc. As far as I am concerned, it's just another long weekend.

Erex · 03/05/2023 12:53

Doing nothing out of the ordinary, checked and there aren't any road closures near us so the whole farce won't affect us in that way at least. We don't have immediate neighbours, but in a nearby street someone has hung a sad, solitary string of bunting. 😁

Bedtimemode · 03/05/2023 12:55

Nope, I'll be at work for most of it anyway. No one I know has any plans, I don't think a lot of people are that interested to be honest

Thesharkradar · 03/05/2023 12:58

Wisterical · 03/05/2023 12:39

Yep, OP is genuflecting HARD
Get up off the floor and stop being so submissive OP pleeease!

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 03/05/2023 12:58

Some cleaning. I'll probably go to the gym. And I'm planning on testing my new oven (=> bake something. If it turns out well I'll bring some to my mum on Sunday).

Lolabear38 · 03/05/2023 13:00

Stitchesremoved22 · 03/05/2023 12:33

I mean you'd have to try pretty hard to do literally NOTHING. Just treat it as a normal weekend if you don't want to celebrate. The competitive 'I'd rather die than celebrate' is so dull and boring.
I'm not a royalist, I don't care either way about them but it's fun, an opportunity to have my family over and eat and drink and be merry and watch the historical spectacle, which by the way, will happen either way. Life must be miserable with so much bitterness and anger.

@Stitchesremoved22 this, 100%.

not a flag waving royalist here either but I’ll watch this major historical event with my family and it’s a good excuse to have a nice afternoon tea and gathering where the kids can play.

Me too. I’d never wave a flag but I think a constitutional monarchy is far better than any alternative.

redroseflyer · 03/05/2023 13:02

I'm just treating it as a normal weekend. I may have the TV on in the background whilst I'm pottering around the house. I don't buy into all the bunting/scones/novelty crowns nonsense 😂. To be honest , we've had an onslaught of royal bollocks this past 12 months.
