‘Influencers’ taking newborns on holiday

I’ve noticed a lot of influencers taking their newborn or very tiny babies (under a few months old) on long haul holidays. AIBU to think this is a bit irresponsible? Long aeroplane journeys with all the germs, taking them to a very hot country when they’re so small with such fragile skin, mosquitos…

I can completely understand that sometimes people need to travel with small babies, or having a holiday when the baby is a bit older and more resilient. But it seems a bit irresponsible flying a 1 month old to Abu Dhabi seems selfish to me.

Prepared to be told IABU!

Oh you were on the other influencer bashing thread!

Is it your hobby?

CarolDunne · 30/04/2023 09:50

Nothing something I would waste my time thinking about tbh

It's not my place to judge other parents. Too busy trying to mine alive

tulippa · 30/04/2023 09:50

Babies exist in hot countries, don't they?

Somebodiesmother · 30/04/2023 09:50

What do you think people who live in those countries do with their newborns?

Yes, 2 threads constitutes a hobby.

@Coffeeandbourbons and the rest!!

Zola1 · 30/04/2023 09:51

I mean, babies do live in hot countries.

tweener · 30/04/2023 09:52

A hot country, fragile skin, mosquitos...

How exactly do you think babies who live in those countries cope?

Nothing wrong with a holiday at that age, if anything it's easier than when they're toddlers.

bunnyrabbitsandbutterflies · 30/04/2023 09:52

I don't think a baby gives a toss which country it's it as long as Mum is there and he / she's being cared for properly.

DisquietintheRanks · 30/04/2023 09:53

God you sound like the old bag of a midwife who harassed my mum about taking newborn me to her country of birth (for her mum's funeral as it happens). People in hot countries have babies too. Why don't you spend more time worrying about the babies abused to death in your own country, if baby welfare is such a concern to you?

Bit of a difference between living somewhere and going on a non essential holiday, seems to be missed on you lot though..

I'd have loved to have taken mine away if I could have. I feel jealous too, but I like to wish them well instead of bitching about it online.

Simonjt · 30/04/2023 09:55

I was born in a very hot country that had mossie’s, should my parents have travelled to a cold country without mossies before I was born?

Most babies spend their first day or so in a very busy germy place with poor air circulation.

I really couldn't care less what influences do. Why do you even bother giving it any thought?

I would be jealous if the baby was 6+ months old!

Whats the difference? Or are you just not fussed about the skin of babies born in hot countries?

I took 4 month old DD to Abu Dhabi. My parents lived there at the time.

Railsailgale · 30/04/2023 09:57

No I don't have a problem with it. Baby's welfare is so tied up with Mum's at this stage and if Mum is the better for a bit of sunshine and fresh air, so is baby. Presumably they're not going to the tropics without access to modern medicine.

You might not realise but lots of people travel from far flung places to to have their babies on the NHS in Britain and then fly home again soon afterwards.

LittleFreakJezebel · 30/04/2023 09:58

Perfect time to travel as they are immobile and likely to sleep for the majority of the long flight!

blondiiiee · 30/04/2023 09:58

I think it's the best time.

Probably have more a relaxing fun holiday than taking a 9 month old - 13 month old! Grin

Railsailgale · 30/04/2023 09:58

I take it this is Stacey? Her baby is not a newborn and they're home again absolutely fine.

bert3400 · 30/04/2023 09:58

I'd say mind your own business. Why are you shamming parents who want a holiday? It's thier child and not yours so keep you nose out
