‘Influencers’ taking newborns on holiday

Coffeeandbourbons · 30/04/2023 09:47

I’ve noticed a lot of influencers taking their newborn or very tiny babies (under a few months old) on long haul holidays. AIBU to think this is a bit irresponsible? Long aeroplane journeys with all the germs, taking them to a very hot country when they’re so small with such fragile skin, mosquitos…

I can completely understand that sometimes people need to travel with small babies, or having a holiday when the baby is a bit older and more resilient. But it seems a bit irresponsible flying a 1 month old to Abu Dhabi seems selfish to me.

Prepared to be told IABU!

Unless they are lying the baby on a sun bed sunbathing all day I really don’t see why anyone cares.

you do realise following “influencers” is entirely optional don’t you?

Fandabedodgy · 30/04/2023 09:59

Do you know that people have babies in hot countries too?

Easier to travel with a baby than a toddler.

Mamette · 30/04/2023 09:59

The baby is being held or in a sling I’m sure. It’s not like it’s in a car seat for the flight.

People are capable of protecting their babies from sun and mosquitoes.

A hot country, fragile skin, mosquitos...

How exactly do you think babies who live in those countries cope?

Nothing wrong with a holiday at that age, if anything it's easier than when they're toddlers.

Woman next to me on the flight with an 18 month old. Want to guess who had the easier flight?

Emmamoo89 · 30/04/2023 10:00

🙄

NeverDropYourMooncup · 30/04/2023 10:00

If 'influencer' white babies are taken by their rich overpaid parents on a holiday overseas, they're clearly going to be in posh hotels and villas with air conditioning, not left to bake in the midday sun as swarms of mosquitos swirl around a squat toilet whilst the parents sunbathe.

alyceflowers · 30/04/2023 10:01

I really have no opinion on people taking babies on holiday.

Also, if this is about Stacey Solomon - the newborn is her 5th child.
You can be precious about the 1st baby, maybe the second, but once you get to the 3rd one life resumes as normal pretty quickly and you do all sorts of things with a newborn in one arm that would have been impossible with your first.

electriclight · 30/04/2023 10:01

We went on holiday and flew long haul when our baby was three months old. It was lovely and a very happy memory. They are quite portable and don't care where they are.

rose69 · 30/04/2023 10:01

It's how they make there money. If you click to look you are perpetuating the system.

PortiasBiscuit · 30/04/2023 10:01

In order to be an influencer, some fool needs to be influenced, I shouldn’t worry about it if I were you.

NurseCranesRolodex · 30/04/2023 10:06

I don't like the thought of LH flights for tiny babies but there are lots of newborns in far flung places FGS!!

The 5th is just as likely to pick up germs from the aeroplane as the 1st. Babies immune systems don’t mature until 6 weeks old, I think taking them on a plane where 200 people are sat close together breathing the same air is selfish.

I'm delighted that I've not noticed any "influencers" at all doing anything. Maybe you need to rethink your browsing material.

Pretty sure her baby is over 6 weeks old then so she's fine.

Well the dates according to Instagram (I’m bored!) suggest that she was 7 weeks old so you can stop worrying!

ThisSingleMama · 30/04/2023 10:13

I think the baby you are so worried about was over the 6 week mark!

So.... what ELSE are you so very concerned about op?

alyceflowers · 30/04/2023 10:14

Is there a list of germy places it's selfish to take newborns anywhere?
I'm thinking - the bus/tube, school assemblies, the supermarket...

KezzaMucklowe · 30/04/2023 10:15

So it’s just about the baby picking up germs ?
I’ve never heard that before tbh.
I had premature babies and as soon as they left hospital the advice we had was to just take them out as normal.

ThisSingleMama · 30/04/2023 10:16

@alyceflowers what you mean in the U.K.? Hmmm good point!

PinkFootstool · 30/04/2023 10:16

All these mums taking babies on public transport with thousands of others around then OK with you OP? Millions of people in the UK rely on public transport - that will include to get to midwifery appointments, check ups, GP, the supermarket, socialising - whatever they need to do. And that will include at peak times and with newborns. What's the difference?

The air on a plane is far cleaner than that on the London Underground. I've never blown black crap out my nose after a plane trip. You can pick up Covid in a supermarket.

Missing point of thread but SS has had 5 babies?! I like Stacey, I bet she’s a lovely mum. She has such warmth about her.

Harebrain · 30/04/2023 10:16

Well OP, if you go down that road, maybe tiny babies shouldn’t go on buses, to supermarkets or to GP surgeries/hospitals as they’re full of germs. It’s a wonder any of us survived babyhood. 🤣

Tessabelle74 · 30/04/2023 10:17

You realise babies live in those countries right? 🙄

LittleFreakJezebel · 30/04/2023 10:19

@mintbiscuit yes she has two older sons and then had another 3 children with Joe Swash.

Bit of a difference between living somewhere and going on a non essential holiday, seems to be missed on you lot though..

What's the difference between an influencer doing it or a non influencer? Do you have a bee in your bonnet about influencers?
