Pigeons on next doors roof

PigeonsNesting2023 · 29/04/2023 21:45

AIBU to want to take them all out. They are nesting on my neighbours roof. They apparently love them. They are pooping all over my garden and pecking at my flat roof.

Obviously you can’t kill them but YANBU. Filthy heath hazard with all the poo and mits

Skulldrudgery · 29/04/2023 21:48

Urgh we had one roosting on our soil pipe one year - the mess!!!

ScottBakula · 29/04/2023 21:48

They are very intelligent birds , and are not the flying rats that everyone seems to think they are ( though that is unfair on rats who are a very smart )

You may not agitate a pigeon if you live in England or Wales. I would report you, if you did so, if I were your neighbours

OwlBasket · 29/04/2023 21:48

Mites not mits. Thank fuck they don’t have hand. That’d be even worse

Human beings, earth vermin 🤷‍♀️

PigeonsNesting2023 · 29/04/2023 21:50

“They carry and spread diseases and cause damage wherever they go”

googling ways to deter them from our roof. I can just about cope with the poop all over the garden but they are damaging our roof and they poo on the washing! We have lots of lovely birds around but pigeons …. They are the devils work. Dread to think what doing to our neighbors roof fabric !

Not agitating. But ordering anti pigeon stuff for the gutters in hope encourages them not to loiter in the gutter on our flat roof.

They are so cute, aww

I agree with OP. But of course can’t actually attack them. Hopefully nesting season ends soon and some move on

TheWorldsGoneMadAndSoHaveI · 29/04/2023 21:54

Someones feeding them, tell them to stop and the problem will resolve

PigeonsNesting2023 · 29/04/2023 21:55

Can’t. Neighbours love them apparently. Stuck with the pigeons

I don't know why they'd be pecking at the flat roof. What's it made of? Ryvita?

You don't need to worry about disease or mites if they're over on a neighbour's house. The shitting on your washing is unfortunate, but there's not much you can do except for putting a fine mesh over the entire garden during nesting.

I have a colleague who was talking about a bird alarm his landlord installed. He said it sounded like a car alarm and went off periodically to deter birds. Sounds like a crazy way to solve a not huge problem, but might be worth investigating if you don't mind living with that sort of racket going on in your roof.

JaffaCakeyy · 29/04/2023 21:58

I feel your pain @PigeonsNesting2023

I have the same issue except with seagulls!! I live in Wales - have lived here all my life but only lived in this house for 3 years. Never had this problem originally but within the last year it's like they've all congregated on my bloody street. I suspect someone is feeding them or something. My driveway is constantly covered in shit. I don't bother getting my car cleaned any more because they shit on it half an hour later. It's so annoying, but I can't do anything about it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

emma1103 · 29/04/2023 22:00

I've been looking at pigeon deterants today. My garden is covered in wood pigeon poo, and it means I can't just let my daughter go outside. Apparently they don't like cinnamon. I had read to spray a cinnamon/water mix on the lawn/fences. Obviously won't work if it rains though! Would need to respray.

Alittlestar · 29/04/2023 22:01

I like pigeons and think they're cute.....so long as they stay away from my home. At my previous house they annoyed me so much with the noise and mess. I'm so relieved that pigeons avoid my new home.

maddening · 29/04/2023 22:03

My neighbours roof, that I can see from my office, is the sex spot for a pair of very active wood pigeons.

PigeonsNesting2023 · 29/04/2023 22:04

I see I’m not the only one. Having to wash the washing again isn’t great with the energy cost. Car covered in it. End up just getting off with a cloth every day as can’t keep washing whole car

Hoping it abates soon. Plus the flipping coo noise when I’m in the garden.

don’t get me wrong. Nature is good but when the neighbours encourage them it’s kinda annoying. I’ve been googling and they aren’t a good bird to have nesting on your roof - damage can be very expensive. Hope neighbours have deep pockets.

They make a great pie.

Do they make their own pastry or buy it in like Gordon Ramsey?
