I'm new to Mumsnet and clearly this is how things are done on here, but does no one else cringe at the ridiculous acronyms people use on here?! Why can't you just say my son, my husband etc.. just something that irks me! 🙃

Is still dont know what CF is so I imagine it is c@nt f@ck ?

SquidwardBound · 29/04/2023 21:34

Cherrywoo · 29/04/2023 21:33

This is sweet. Reminds me of my early MN days and finding it twee.
Now I don’t give a shit and find some small satisfaction in calling not so D DHs just H.

Me too. Dropping the H is meaningful.

The D never was. But dropping it says something. 😁

cheeky fucker

Teacakeorcrumpet · 29/04/2023 21:35

CF = cheeky fucker. People who are so entitled they ask for ridiculous favours all the time

neilyoungismyhero · 29/04/2023 21:35

bravotango · 29/04/2023 20:46

YABU, HTH

I've never got what HTH means.

Teacakeorcrumpet · 29/04/2023 21:35

HTH = hope that helps

UndercoverCop · 29/04/2023 21:36

My favourite is STBXH I always read it as stupid bastard ex husband, rather than soon to be

Comeonbarbiebrianharvey · 29/04/2023 21:37

Teacakeorcrumpet · 29/04/2023 21:33

IYSWiM = if you see what I mean. That's not mumsnet, been around since early days of internet

Thanks, missed that one I just couldn't be bothered to Google it. Was thinking about A/S/L earl__ier from chats that's an old one

AuntieStella · 29/04/2023 21:37

Shared language binds communities.

If you don't like the community here, there are oodles of other sites

I completely agree. I've used internet fora for many years and have never come across so many daft acronyms. It really does make it quite difficult to decipher some posts.

MyMachineAndMe · 29/04/2023 21:38

They're not acronyms. They're initialisms.

AuntieStella · 29/04/2023 21:38

Teacakeorcrumpet · 29/04/2023 21:35

HTH = hope that helps

But remember that on MN it's used sarcastically

UndercoverCop · 29/04/2023 21:36

I think that reading is entirely in the spirit of that acronym.

Changedmymindtoday · 29/04/2023 21:38

LTB!
I use it in real life now 😂

SquidwardBound · 29/04/2023 21:39

AuntieStella · 29/04/2023 21:38

But remember that on MN it's used sarcastically

Where could it possibly not be used passive aggressively?

Whichwhatnow · 29/04/2023 21:39

Mildly irritating when it could be multiple options - is df dear friend, fiance or father? Is ds dear son or sister?? But so long as it's clear from the context then meh.

I have to say at this point if I ever had a daughter the name Deedee might be in the running...

StarDolphins · 29/04/2023 21:40

🤣 I don’t mind it but most of them are DH is a selfish fucking dirty cheating bellend.

So, do ‘dear’ at all! Make your mind up.

Maybe, some are meaning D for dirty instead of dear!

But, welcome anyway 😃

AwaaFaeHom · 29/04/2023 21:40

Some of the ones that people are saying they don't know are not mumsnet-specific. They have been around for at least twenty years.

Sorry op, but I don't think the fact that you don't like the initialisms will make a blind bit of difference.

StarDolphins · 29/04/2023 21:41

Also, my DDog is dearer to me than most people so I will continue to you this.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/04/2023 21:42

If you don't like it you don't have to stay.

MeinKraft · 29/04/2023 21:43

How's this for an acronym: Biscuit

BlackeyedSusan · 29/04/2023 21:43

Twiglets1 · 29/04/2023 21:17

I hate it.

Especially when women are complaining about their abusive husbands and they STILL call then DH - what's dear about them???

Dick head. Obviously!

WallaceinAnderland · 29/04/2023 21:44

Teacakeorcrumpet · 29/04/2023 21:32

FTFOTTFSOF is my favourite MN acronym

Mine is FTFOTTFSOFAWYGTFOSM

Why? TSSNCOP

gentlemum · 29/04/2023 21:44

MyMachineAndMe · 29/04/2023 21:38

They're not acronyms. They're initialisms.

True. But Mumsnet calls it acronyms in their 'list of acronyms'
