I'm new to Mumsnet and clearly this is how things are done on here, but does no one else cringe at the ridiculous acronyms people use on here?! Why can't you just say my son, my husband etc.. just something that irks me! 🙃

The worst are DDog & DCat. But I agree I hate all the D prefixes. Especially when you see DF for example. Is that Father Friend or Fiance

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 29/04/2023 20:48

Careful people will assume you are a GF for posting this in AIBU. HTH.

New poster, mmmmm...... sheep? Nice

She’s right though isn’t she.

UmbilicusSuperficialis · 29/04/2023 20:49

You are a true radical, Original Poster

MyrrAgain · 29/04/2023 20:49

Yep

Especially if none of the people being described appear particularly "dear"!

That’s it, it’s always my husband is being utterly horrible and they write dear or darling husband, um yeah, ok.

CarrotSoupwithCheese · 29/04/2023 20:51

I love this thread! I thought I was the only one!

JOD74 · 29/04/2023 20:51

GF = goady fucker. Which tbf it does look that way. Yabu

carriedout · 29/04/2023 20:51

'sheep' Hmm

I find it quicker to type dd than daughter, but also all groups have their ways.

DinaofCloud9 · 29/04/2023 20:52

It's not just Mumsnet. I first saw DD and DS on a Disneyland Paris forum in 2004 or 2005 and it took me ages to work out what they meant.

Summerof76a · 29/04/2023 20:52

Oh I definitely won't be using them as I'm not a sheep

Awww bless ...

PopeBenedictsP45 · 29/04/2023 20:55

I don’t tend to use them myself but really couldn’t get my knickers in a knot over others doing so. This forum encompasses a wide range of women from all walks of life and ages, people won’t always be like you, so a little acceptance goes a long way.

Well aren’t you the maverick… 🙄 MM is known for its acronyms, why join the site if they are so abhorrent to you? YABVU.

Littleworkaholic · 29/04/2023 20:49

She’s right though isn’t she.

It's meant as an insult though, new people coming along and insulting the people who've been somewhere years is a bit off

Inkpotlover · 29/04/2023 20:55

I mean MN.

Peppadog · 29/04/2023 20:57

I thought it was darling?

When it gets really confusing is when someone says DD3 for example, sometimes people use that to describe their 3rd daughter but others use it to describe their daughter who is 3.

Agreed.

DD3 is the third DD. DD(3) is a three year old.

I mean most of the time.

DancingWithTheMoonlitKnight · 29/04/2023 20:58

DILLIGAF what you think?

SinisterKnitter · 29/04/2023 20:58

I'm a dsheep actually 🐑

Mysterian · 29/04/2023 21:00

IATTAFTMAOM

(I also think there are far too many acronyms on Mumsnet)

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 29/04/2023 21:03

Dsheep here too. It's a club with fun rules that distinguish it from other clubs. FTFO if you don't like it, but don't join a club and whinge about the rules.

Quite often though, posters will put ‘d’h, which is a very neat way of getting the message across!
