To think this looks awful?! Grazing table....

Posted by a local pub for an event ..... wouldn't be able to eat a thing if I was going! All those hands in there, not to mention how far over you'd have to lean to get to the food in the middle and the worst bit? This will sit there for at least 12 hours before the event which is surely not within food hygiene regulations and it will taste awful!

No, no, no! I hate this, it's so unhygienic. At least 'normal' buffets tend to be on long, narrow tables, so minimises the reaching/leaning over the food to get to what you want. Plus things being plated keeps the different foods separate (and easy to take out and refill). This will look in a terrible state after 30 mins of being picked over. May as well just upend the lot in a trough and be done with it!

Hedonism · 27/04/2023 07:22

Grazing tables are disgusting, the end.

Because they posted this tonight and the event is at lunchtime tomorrow, they added the time in their post.

Maybe it was just taken for picture purposes and then will be put away till nearer the event?

BessieSurtees · 27/04/2023 07:26

Nope

Buffets are bad enough but at least the food doesn’t overlap and can be kept in a fridge.

A grazing platter to share is one thing but a whole table 🤢

It takes a while (and / or many hands) to set that up and then it can’t be kept cool.

Once people disturb the food it no longer look’s appetising and the cross contamination goes up a notch.

Where would they keep it?

littleburn · 27/04/2023 07:31

@BessieSurtees tip it into a bin bag, chuck it in the fridge and then tip it out again!

Grazing tables just look rough don’t they. Usually found on sketchy FB ‘caterers’ who might offer sharing boxes, afternoon tea for two boxes, sweet boxes etc etc. I always wonder who actually pays for that stuff. Grim. It’s always the cheapest of the cheap food they use too.

It was probably invented to help hide the cheap shite.

That and this obsession with excess that sine people have.

Zanatdy · 27/04/2023 07:35

they look good for Instagram - but in reality no. I guess it’s not a massive difference is it from it sitting on a tray (eg people still lean over) - I like to be first up for a buffet for this reason

Etoile41 · 27/04/2023 07:36

It's probably a photo of a previous event. Surely it won't be there for 12 hours!

AtChoService · 27/04/2023 07:37

Northernsouloldies · 27/04/2023 04:29

Exactly, you wouldn't put your lunch onto your kitchen work top/dining table. What a ridiculous concept.

Haven't you seen those disgusting videos where people dump spag bol out onto the middle of the table and give their kids a fork?

Yeah. Why would that be fun?

Againstmachine · 27/04/2023 07:40

I remember the good old days when things were served on plates or in bowls, I don't want my food on a slate.

This is just a mess, put it on plates, it isn't cool or nice.

SecretSwirrel · 27/04/2023 07:41

Of course this is a crap idea. It already looks awful and will look even worse if people actually eat it…I wouldn’t.

It would only work for a smaller amount of food shared between family/good friends.

Much better to use bowls/plates etc for a large amount of food.

NellyTimes · 27/04/2023 07:41

I'm always baffled by the crackers and breadticks being next to raw veg, surely they will go soggy sidling up to a pile of cucumber or carrots. It's obviously all pretty grim, but this aspect really annoys me.

ssd · 27/04/2023 07:42

The flies will love it

piedbeauty · 27/04/2023 07:43

All the food is way too close to the edge so it will all fall off and people's clothes will be brushing against it.

The pub should stick to hygiene rules for the length of time food is out of the fridge, though.

And veggies are touching meat, so vegetarians probably won't be keen.

No thank you.

Vermin · 27/04/2023 07:58

It’s simultaneously too close to the edge for dropping on the floor reasons but also too far in the middle for armpit waft / clothing drag as people without Mr Tickle arms lunge for the middle of the very wide table.

DreamingLoo · 27/04/2023 08:13

The outrage on this thread. Over a grazing table 🤣🤣🤣

lljkk · 27/04/2023 08:15

I'm not afraid of germs so would happily tuck in.

However... Doesn't it look awful as it gets depleted, though, and people end up mixing foods (some might not like/be able to have), & food gets knocked constantly on the floor? Most of it gets heaved in bin at end of evening because there's no way to tidy leftovers away for storage? The breadsticks will go soft because of contact with higher moisture % veg, the veg will go dry because sitting in the air. So ultimately their taste will decline faster because of the mixing situation, -> huge food wastage.

Those aspects would annoy me.

Only heard of this on MN. Nowhere else.

VivaLesTartes · 27/04/2023 08:19

I was grossed out by grazing tables before but the pub setting, the carpet, I dunno this is a different level of yuk.

Schnooze · 27/04/2023 08:22

We’ve done a bigger grazing table than that, for family who don’t tend to have gross habits, but I’d not want to touch one that strangers have been at. Yuck.

RichardHeed · 27/04/2023 08:25

While I wouldn’t pay for one, I don’t see such a massive issue v a buffet. People lean over / touch / breathe on all that shit too, but it’s on a plate. Only difference really. Apart from food overlapping which isn’t ideal for those with allergies.

BrioNotBiro · 27/04/2023 08:29

I totally agree with all the general barf/hygiene comments. Specifically though, this looks like a crap spread, more like a giant table of crudities.

I can see a few sausage rolls and a tiny piece of brie but unless it's The Rabbit's Arms, the pub clientele are likely to be disappointed.

Laiste · 27/04/2023 08:37

No. I'd be swerving that.

I'm not keen on buffets full stop. Or bread/cakes offered unwrapped and uncovered in baskets in shops, that sort of thing.

I'm not a clean freak but there's something about dust, clothing fluff, other people's hair, spit, skin flakes, and whatever might be on their fingers which puts me off eating 😶

Groggygymdodger · 27/04/2023 08:40

I don’t really see it as different to a buffet. The only difference is it’s not In indivual dishes, so for me, no issue.
