neighbour from hell

i moved in October to maisonette with my 6yo .

below us lives woman with 10 dogs . these dogs are never walked and always inside her 2 bedroom house .

obviously barking is constant. day and night . our life is hell . sleep deprivation is form of torture and it's not fair on dogs to always sit indoors too.

i reported this to RSPCA , council , landlords however nothing is done .

is my only option to move now ? is it animal cruelty to keep 10 dogs inside and never walk them ?

can anyone give me advice i'm desperate now , my child is disabled and she can't sleep at night begging me to stop barking .

smell is unbearable too , it comes up to our house from downstairs

any advice would be greatly appreciated

thank you

I would phone the RSPCA again because yes it is cruel. Did they send anyone round?

MissJD · 26/04/2023 11:56

RSPCA came around 5 times but she is just not opening the door and they have to power to force entry ..

i think my only option is to move now unfortunately

What has the council said? This sounds horrendous - how can anyone have that many dogs unless they live on a very large property.

Are you renting? If so, your landlord should take action.

MissJD · 26/04/2023 11:59

Also sometimes she leaves her dogs for day or 2 alone and when i call RSPCA to do welfare check they are not coming .

it seems to me that no one cares about this situation, all my complaints and corners are being ignored.

10 dogs??? What kindof breed, that's crazy
Poor dogs... can the rspca not do more if they suspect neglect and I assume ten dogs in a small space not being walks is neglect?
Sorry you're going through this xx

Willmafrockfit · 26/04/2023 12:01

try the police if rspca are doing nothing.

Missingmyusername · 26/04/2023 12:01

The housing association say nothing?
What about dog mess?

Willmafrockfit · 26/04/2023 12:01

or environmental health

MissJD · 26/04/2023 12:02

Council put recording device to see the level of noise and served her with community protection order .

Landlords are saying they would never allow that amount of dogs and looking at tenancy breach.

But it's been going on since October and i don't how maybe she kept these poor dogs for years inside .

i don't think i can take much more of this and it breaks my heart when my little one cries at night cause she can't sleep

Animal cruelty is illegal so won't the police come round when she leaves them on their own for days? 101?

TheFlis12345 · 26/04/2023 12:04

Have you spoken to your local dog warden?

PollyAmour · 26/04/2023 12:05

I would contact the police. Those poor animals.

MissJD · 26/04/2023 12:05

yes i called police after she left dogs for 3 days alone . they came after 2 days to do welfare check.

i'm desperate because i exhausted all i can , calling RSPCA , police. council. landlords and it's like talking to brick wall .

they said such things take time , and i need to be patient .

But how much more patience can i have ? been 7 months of hell and everyone is brushing my complaints off

RSPCA said if dogs were wondering around street they would take them. But since they inside it's all fine .

I'd move, yes. This situation is unlikely to improve.

try the police if rspca are doing nothing.

police says they don't deal with it , it must be RSPCA

poor dogs , what a life , sitting for months , years inside filthy small flat sad

Are you able to move? I know it's another upheaval but I think it's going ti be very hard to fix.

RSPCA generally won't bother as long as an animal has shelter and food and isn't suffering in pain for illness.

My only other idea is to contact your local MP or councillors.

Thesharkradar · 26/04/2023 12:09

This is awful I'm so sorry, I think the best solution is probably to move.
She sounds as if she has an animal hoarding disorder?

MyOwnVolt · 26/04/2023 12:11

Who owns the property?

If it’s a council or HA then you need to go through the official complaints process.

MissJD · 26/04/2023 12:12

Nordicrain · 26/04/2023 12:07

I'd move, yes. This situation is unlikely to improve.

yes i think i'm done . they want me to keep recording barking. send endless complaints.

my life now revolves around it and it's mentally exacerbating.

previously to me , here was living elderly lady who that woman was stealing pension of and physically abused her and awaiting trial for that .

it's like that woman can do whatever she wants and no one does anything.

i think i'm done , have to get out of this hell

thank you ladies xx

Is there anything you can do to sound proof, or would your child wear ear plugs or defenders to sleep? Obvioulsy that's no good long term but I'm wonder if it might help short term?

Long term I think you need to keep down the path you one with keeping up with the council, police and RSPCA, and add enviromental health and the dog warden to the people to badger! Are there any other neighbours you could get on side? Does this neighbour have any routine you've noticed? If she's avoiding opening the door to the RSPCA could they arrange to be there just before she has to leave for work or something?

MissJD · 26/04/2023 12:14

yes i think i should move . i got the picture.

no one will do anything about this situation and i can't let my child suffer like that . she is disabled and needs her sleep.

i will contact MP but i don't think anything will change so beat to get out of here xx

She sounds as if she has an animal hoarding disorder?

before dogs she kept lots of birds in her shed .

she is well known to RSPCA .

and she is abusive she was stealing pension of elderly lady and assaulted her .

now she is waiting for trial .

ti be honest i'm scared of her , best to move x

So you're living there, paying rent and they've got you working for them for free?!
I would move out and then it's not your problem.
When You're gone they won't be getting any rent for the property no one else will want to live there and they'll have to do something about the problem if they want to get any revenue from their asset!

OrangeRock · 26/04/2023 12:16

Oh that is totally shit. If you can move I’d say do that. She sounds evil with your updates.
