To ask the fitters to stop fitting my floor today

So this situation is absolutely ridiculous and I am perfectly aware that my pregnancy hormones are clouding my judgement here and I'm in an incredibly fortunate position, but I could really be doing with some urgent WWYD advice as I am so stressed over this. I am 33 weeks pregnant and have moved into a complete renovation project (not ideal I realise!). The last few weeks since I got the keys I've had to make a lot of quick (expensive) decisions re the design of the house to allow me to get in to it before the baby's born. I'd thought that would be really fun and exciting, but I'm actually really starting to feel pretty stressed over the whole thing and no longer trust my own judgement. I'm becoming quite teary and doubting every decision I make. One of the major outlays has been flooring. It accounts for a significant lump sum of the budget and the fitters started work yesterday and will complete today. As soon as I saw the flooring down it looked completely different from I had thought it would from when I saw it in the shop. I did immediately mention this to the fitters but they assured me it was the correct one. I'm not blaming anyone else here but me, as I do appreciate flooring looks different in natural/ artificial light etc but I immediately hated it. It really looks nothing like I thought it would. They are about halfway done. Should I call the shop and ask them to stop and at least try to salvage some of the unused packets of flooring? (It's herringbone design and there's a LOT of it as the floor space is massive) or should I let them finish and suck it up and not lose thousands of £?) I'm so angry at myself for making the wrong choice and of course I'm not suggesting that I don't pay for the flooring or wiggle out of fitting fees etc. I also realise this is causing me way more distress than it should- my hormones are all over the place.

I’ve read the money saving expert thread. The people there are saying the shop is entitled to do this. This answer blows my mind and is the opposite of what I thought and posted upthread.

I guess this is what is meant by the term 1st world problems?

Do you think it doesn't matter then? As long as someone has food to eat and a roof over their head they shouldn't care about the fact they have spent thousands on something that doesn't appear to be what they ordered? Righty ho ...

I’ve googled the 2 brands and these are the pics I found of what I think you ordered and what they’re laying. Kronotex is half the price.

You are being ripped off if you’re paying £39.99 or similar per square metre. It does, however, look a similar colour.

Can you high tale it down to the shop this morning with a box and a piece of the laminate?

If you’re paying the full whack and you’re getting a different product and you don’t like the colour even if similar, you could even ask for a relay with a change of colour.

Wow!

They're massively ripping you off!

mrsconradfisher · 25/04/2023 07:30

Honestly I would keep the one you have got, I agree it’s a nice colour and the original one will darken loads. However if they have supplied a completely different product I would push for a refund as it’s nearly half the price, which could be put towards other things.

Dibbydoos · 25/04/2023 07:33

The grey tone will disappear when you pick out the warm tone with your furniture, rugs and curtains, OP.

I think it's a beautiful flooring.

Let them finish it. You can always colour treat it afterwards if needs me.

Good luck.

Setyoufree · 25/04/2023 07:35

Oh I missed the bit about them mugging you off with a cheaper brand than you've paid for. If that's true, I'd be straight down the shop today for an explanation

Irisandillies · 25/04/2023 07:36

I also think it looks nice and it is definitely ravello belstaff, a quick Google shows it, but I agree the sample looks more natural.

MultipleVeganPies · 25/04/2023 07:37

They are using a cheaper brand

well spotted

check what the contract says, if you are paying for the expensive brand, I would make them rip it up and refuse to pay.

fuckers!

Sorry you are having to deal with this

Irisandillies · 25/04/2023 07:38

Sorry I also missed the branding, that product is about half the price of ravello.

mrsblueskyeye · 25/04/2023 07:39

After your baby has been sick and poo'd on it a few times the colour will change...

WakeMeUpInspring · 25/04/2023 07:40

I prefer what's being laid. I hope you get it sorted.

60smusic · 25/04/2023 07:40

They're completely different colours. Tbh I actually prefer the 2nd picture. But it's not the colour you ordered. I get sometimes flooring looks different when put down but it's normally the floor looks darker or lighter than we remembered, these are 2 different colours completely.

I'd email the shop the pictures you put here and tell them you'll be ringing when they open. I'd halt the rest of the fitting until you're happy.

AlltheFs · 25/04/2023 07:43

It’s not what you ordered, so don’t let them lay any more until you’ve spoken to them.

I absolutely wouldn’t accept an inferior product so don’t focus on the colour, focus on the fact it is not what you paid for.

Fourcandlesx · 25/04/2023 07:44

Ravello doesn't appear to be a brand as such but a name that Tapi has given to a range of flooring (in this case Kronotek). Kronotek is however a proper brand with its own website and is sold as Kronotek in many other places. Tapi are absolutely hiding the fact they are supplying Kronotek in order to double the price. It must be legal or they wouldn't do it but it's shocking that it is allowed. The MSE thread was an interesting read but I don't know how they can get away with selling an actual brand under a totally different name.

But they are laying a significantly cheaper product than what she ordered and paid for. Do you think she should ignore that?!

OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 25/04/2023 07:45

It's clear they have used a brand that is approximately half the price of the product you ordered.

If you decide to keep the flooring but pay the reduced price, and they refuse to refund you, then depending on how you paid you should contact your bank.

If you paid by debit card, you can request a debit card charge back. If you paid by credit card, you can claim a refund under the Section 75 guarantee.

Hope you get it sorted soon OP, and wishing you the best of luck with the new baby. 💐

Frauhubert · 25/04/2023 07:45

I am pretty sure it’s possible to get it professionally stained to a different shade?

VerityUnreasonble · 25/04/2023 07:46

That MSE thread was mind blowing.

Basically says shops can sell cheaper floors like Krono under a different name like Raffelo and then just supply the boxes of Krono because the actual product is the same (they just changed the name on the display and charged twice the price). So you pay ££ extra just for a name on a display.

MrsCarson · 25/04/2023 07:46

I'd take your order paperwork (make copies) and an empty box and go to the shop and cause a fuss and insist that they provide what you ordered and paid for. The colour is different.

nomoneytreehere · 25/04/2023 07:47

I had this when we had our new kitchen tiled. Tiles looksd totally different than I remembered and also had a grey tone. I love them now.

Did you order the wrong one by mistake?

WilsonMilson · 25/04/2023 07:47

I think it is the same flooring, it’s just different light and spread over a much wider space than the sample, it’s bound to look different.

I think it’s lovely, and I’m not a fan of herringbone usually. It’s neutral, peaceful and will work with most furniture. It’s not too grey at all.

You’d be mad to have them stop, you will have to pay anyway, they won’t just say “ok, no problem” take it back and even partially refund, so you might as let them finish. I think you’re overthinking this. It’s honestly really nice.

MushroomQueen · 25/04/2023 07:47

I think they are the same but light is affecting how it looks when down. I think it looks great and wouldn't change. Congratulations on baby and house.

Fourcandlesx · 25/04/2023 07:48

AlltheFs · 25/04/2023 07:44

But they are laying a significantly cheaper product than what she ordered and paid for. Do you think she should ignore that?!

I think they have supplied her what she has ordered but they have renamed the range to Ravello. I think anyone ordering that range would get the Kronotek which is the product they are selling under a new name at twice the price. It's shocking

WilsonMilson · 25/04/2023 07:48

Frauhubert · 25/04/2023 07:45

It’s laminate, you can’t stain laminate!

Frauhubert · 25/04/2023 07:49

@WilsonMilson sorry i missed that
