To be a bit excited about the 3pm alarm?

I'm interested to hear what it sounds like. For it to be going off all over the country at once, in all households and shops is exciting.

It's something completely new and feels kinda like something from Black mirror.

Maybe I'm just weird 😂

I've got one of the old iPhone SEs, so it's probably so old, it won't work on mine.

I had tornado warning alarms on my phone, when I was in the US, about 12 years ago. You phone will work fine, trust me!
Im not in the UK, but I do have a UK phone number, so I wonder if Ill get it!
They tend to be quite loud, judging by the tornado alarm I once got while on holiday in the US!

@Decafflatteplease our service is such that parade is over but the alert will go
off during the service Grin

Good way of getting out of an interminable service - pretend you don't know anything about it and run out screaming all the way to the pub.

😂

I object to it being on a Sunday afternoon and on the feast day of the patron saint of England.

Really? Why?

It's just interesting because it will go on most phones at the same time.
Anyone knows if it goes off on phones abroad? Uk numbers?

I will let you know! I am abroad, but I do have a UK number!

I know I'll scream, I'm stupidly jumpy. Agree it's kind of cool though. Dd2 is on a DoE expedition so they'll all be caught out with their phones on I suspect 😂 .

Do you normally scream when you hear a text beeps through or a phone ring? Do you when you hear someone's car alarm or burglar alarm go off?

Eh? Have i missed something?

You're joking right? The government are testing the smart phone Emergency Alert system at 3pm today. Smart phones will go off and you might get a text. There's not Emergency. Pretty much all smart phones. It's built in software. Prepare for the alarm (not sure what noise)

myheartmyhead · 23/04/2023 14:46

Saw a tweet this morning
'What happens if there is actually an emergency at 3pm' 😀😃😄

Does it alert if you have the phone on silent/DND? My phone lives on DND Grin

It's supposed to come through even if set to silent.
Shouldn't do if turned off or in airplane mode.

GrandTheftWalrus · 23/04/2023 14:46

I've turned my tablet on to see if it'll come through that as it's got a sim card in it.

Anxietyrules247 · 23/04/2023 14:47

I think most people will just look at their phones.

I don't get the big deal of watching other people's reactions.
Most people know what it is anyway.

Not sure what people are expecting.
It's not worth wetting your pants over.

No, it's regional based. So the emergency alert is based in the phone being in the UK. If abroad it won't sound.
In future emergency alerts with be based in your location - so you won't get an alert that is for another part of the country if it doesn't apply to where you are at that time.

Oysterbabe · 23/04/2023 14:48

I'm watching the football but it's going to go off during half time. I wonder if the pundits have turned theirs off.

NutButters · 23/04/2023 14:49

I think they missed a trick not putting on Jools Holland Hootenanny so we could count down to it.

I'm planning on going to my local supermarket for 3pm just to hear them all go off / see the public reaction! 🚨

I was hoping to do the same but I managed to do the shopping this morning instead. Almost feel like rushing there again! 😆
Will sit in the garden and listen to how people react (my phone is not disabled but is upstairs in the bedroom so I won't hear it).

Toddlerteaplease · 23/04/2023 14:49

I'm sitting in costa waiting for it.

I tell you what wankers everywhere , some people ,yes other people not just you , will and can react to alerts in different ways . It may be unexpected and could trigger a quick fright or someone who suffers with severe anxiety may panic for longer. I think that comment is very selfish , clearly you must be resilient

Needmorelego · 23/04/2023 14:51

I'm on the bus..... I think I will still be on it at 3 😂📢

TheOrigRights · 23/04/2023 14:52

I'm just about to have a shower. It's a new vey powerful shower. I wonder what will be louder.
My sis is seeing Newsies. We wondered whether they will stop the show or time the interval so it coincides with that, or just "must let the show go on"!

Datafan55 · 23/04/2023 14:52

My phone is an old nokia I borrowed in 06... But in a minute I'm going to hang out of the window of my high flat and see if I can hear anything (and also to check for asteroids, nuclear missiles and flash floods).

That actually makes a lot of sense.

Outerlimit · 23/04/2023 14:52

As NATO/EU/US are busy hurrying us to WWIII without voters having any say in the matter, it's exciting but not in a good way.
