To be a bit excited about the 3pm alarm?

I'm interested to hear what it sounds like. For it to be going off all over the country at once, in all households and shops is exciting.

It's something completely new and feels kinda like something from Black mirror.

Maybe I'm just weird 😂

I got American lady. DH didn't.

cowzen · 23/04/2023 15:36

Seven mobile phones in the house - only two had a good enough mobile signal to pick up the alarm.

And no, we are not elderly or disabled but live somewhere with very patchy mobile signal (not the back of beyond - still within commuting distance of London). Normally we rely on wifi calling but it seems the alarm didn't work on that.

Yes could have at least have blue and white flashing lights to accompany it.

That would be smashing tbh.
I would also like to choose siren. I orefer continental police siren

Caramac555 · 23/04/2023 15:36

Mine was two minutes early. They must realise I'm a slow runner and I will need a head start.

Yikes! I was wobbling on a ladder with my phone tucked down my bra. Surprised I'm still here and not being blue-lighted to hospital.

🤣🤣🤣this made me laugh, good job vibrate mode wasn't activated with the alert as you'd been in traction by now 🤣

That’s not fair!!! You’ll be looting before those of us on 3 have the faintest idea what’s going on!

Yes, well life sucks some times :) If you are really nice to me, I may save you a small space and some of the left over pizza

Jitterybugs · 23/04/2023 15:37

Merlo · 23/04/2023 15:33

Oh no, I feel left out, as I too didn’t get the American lady!!!

I got a very loud siren sound and vibration along with a message on the screen saying it was a test and no action needed but follow advice given in any future alerts. I can’t remember the exact wording as I can’t see that the message has been stored anywhere in my phone to reread it.

RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer · 23/04/2023 15:39

Mine was on silent and I didn't get anything 😫

Though to be fair I did get the text warning thingy

Kendodd · 23/04/2023 15:39

Five phones in my house, different networks, not one went off.
Very disappointing :(

Extreme unexpected weather

Floods

Chemical fires

Radiation zones

Zombie attack

You just made a story there.
Floods causing chemical firrs and radiation spill and subsequent zombies. Nice.

On a serious note. Look at Ohio recently... There are lots of potential issues in UK, lots of potential dangers (eg the chemical spills or explosions) and while rare, the alarm may be helpful. I mean like, it's not pain in the butt. Even though we don't need it often and it will ring once every 10 years, that few extra people who managed to escape harm are worth it, isn't it...

People are underwhelmed? What did people think was going to happen? Is a phone alarm going off ever going to be exciting?

Because with all the build up of it being described as “blaring” and how people were going to jump and scream, it was hilarious that it really wasn’t a big noise. I love that a pp has said how they were shocked at the string of obscenities they blurted out at the surprise of it. Christ knows how they react to a car backfiring if a moderate and expected noise from a device that routinely makes noises leads to that.

astarsheis · 23/04/2023 15:41

Mine went off at 14:59 DH's at 15:21

All done now!

Tinysox-I hope I can keep my landline, I live in a hilly rural area and the reception on my mobile is very poor in the house.

According to BT you won’t. If we get a long enough powercut, my Dd will be without a seizealarm. They are ‘working with’ rural communities apparently. Elderly people not on broadband will be given a ‘hub’ but won’t be allowed to use it for the internet. If they do, they will be charged. People who rely on landlines for medical reasons like us will be given a battery back up pack (!?) for some sort of unit that will last 30 mins. I did ask if the power went off when we’re asleep at night, that 30mins is not enough. The BT women said at the moment only Virgin is planning on keeping landlines. We’re rural, we can’t get virgin, and the power goes off several times a year at night.
Openreach plan to ‘turn off’ landlines by 2024/2025 according to the BT operator.

OnedayIwillfeelfree · 23/04/2023 15:43

I didn’t get one .Hope the Government don’t think I turned my alerts off and put my name on the ’Thick as mince‘ list when they don’t get a delivery report.

dittbtdity · 23/04/2023 15:07

Same here

Saying what? 3 different networks in our house and we all got a siren at the same time but no voice.

mixedrecycling · 23/04/2023 15:47

DD's phone went off. Mine didn't.

Obviously I am not worth saving 😂

Did I mention that you’re my favourite poster? Truly inspiring.

WonderingWanda · 23/04/2023 15:48

I was in M&S they did an announcement to remind everyone it was going to happen. Then some people's phones went off at 14.58, mine went off at 3 and a couple were just starting as I dismissed my message. Didn't feel very loud but we were in a very busy shop.

ifancyajamdonut · 23/04/2023 15:49

What a lot of fuss about nothing much, people screaming and swearing because of it ? Unless ND or have mental health problems which who may be upset and that can be understood. But for the rest of them wtaf?

handsoffate · 23/04/2023 15:49

Mine was extremely loud, fairly old iPhone.

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 23/04/2023 15:50

I’m confused. I didn’t get the alert (latest iPhone, with O2 in a city.) Dh in the same room got it (different network). Definitely opted in for alerts. How can I tell if I have 4G? I am not techy, but surely if you’re home it would be wifi anyway???

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 23/04/2023 15:51

Was so quiet, had it in my pocket and hardly heard it

If you have the latest I-phone you should be on 5G.

whoamI00 · 23/04/2023 15:51

How loud the alram was? I didn't get any alarm.

FabFitFifties · 23/04/2023 15:52

My work phone got it but none of our personal phones 🤔I was expecting something more dramatic and louder to be honest.
