To be a bit excited about the 3pm alarm?

I'm interested to hear what it sounds like. For it to be going off all over the country at once, in all households and shops is exciting.

It's something completely new and feels kinda like something from Black mirror.

Maybe I'm just weird 😂

Dh & I are different mobile networks mine went off at 2:59 and his 3:01.

Same here.
Dd and dh are EE and got their siren early.
I'm Vodafone and got mine a minute late.
Wonder if any managed 3pm exactly - so far the only ones I know were at 2:59 or 3:01

Softsoftsleep · 23/04/2023 15:18

I have a UK number but live abroad and didnt get anything. I take it its location specific?

Somanysocks · 23/04/2023 15:18

I feel quite left out, nothing yet.🤔

feellikeanalien · 23/04/2023 15:18

So was there meant to be a voice? We just got a message with an OK button to press. Wasn't even that loud.

Marmite17 · 23/04/2023 15:18

Phone connected to WiFi but have Lebara. Went off a few seconds early. Tablet silent.
Very loud!
Used to have flood warning sirens here which are way scarier!

LiliLil · 23/04/2023 15:18

Hope everyone who has a secret phone to keep safe is ok.

And also wondering how many partners have just found out their OH have a secret phone!

wigywhoo

The government have accessed everyone’s phone numbers to send a blaring alarm, without permission, whether people want this or not for ridiculous and pie-in-the-sky reasons - in case of what? earthquakes? Tornados?

None of which we experience on any dangerous level in this country. I have yet to hear a valid explanation for the necessity of any of this.

It’s mad.

I lived in Uk for ten+ years and had tornado in nearby postcode and earthquake felt all the way from wales.
There are other things than just these two.

It's standard thing in many countries.

Sounds like it didn't work on phones using the Three network. So I guess they'll have to test again.

I'm with EE and ID Mobile and got nothing on either phone.

Agree with others about OK should turn sound off not close the message too.

Agreed. I hit it to turn the sound off and the message disappeared.

DahliaMacNamara · 23/04/2023 15:19

If my phone hadn't been next to me, ie in another room or in a bag, it wasn't really noticeable enough over 10seconds to alert me to an emergency. I suppose it would keep going if something was really happening, would it? I don't keep volume settings high, but imagined it would override that.

Letsdance8188 · 23/04/2023 15:05

I turned mine off in the settings so didn't get it, but the tablets all went off which I wasn't expecting. DS was quite alarmed!

I assume they are not Wi-Fi only models. Anything phone/tablet has 4g + will have got it I assume. But nothing turned off, in airplane mode, has no cellular network or is less than 4G will get it.

secular39 · 23/04/2023 15:19

So that's why my phone was making an odd noise and beeping! I thought someone hacked my phone!!!

LulooLemon · 23/04/2023 15:19

@Somanysocks 😂

(me too)

I thought about it last week and my prediction is 18 threads about cheaters, 17 being creative writing

Cornettoninja · 23/04/2023 15:19

@Itakecreaminmycoffee the reasoning has been publicised extensively over the last week and frankly it doesn’t really matter whether you personally see the point or not. The emergency services have had extensive input and see the value in being able to simultaneously contact members of communities in the event of an emergency. Not just weather - fires, chemical spills, terrorism etc.

if it’s any comfort to you, you’re unlikely to hear much about it ever again.

Marmite17 · 23/04/2023 15:20

Also got voice message

How have you managed to miss all the posts, news articles and messages about it happening?

wankerseverywhere · 23/04/2023 15:20

OrangeRock · 23/04/2023 15:13

I wokld sign up of its voluntary. Why would I not want to know about a flood/fire/explosion?
3 police officers on a Night Shift will take hours to knock on everyone’s doors by which time access is gone. Or if my child is kidnapped of course I want everyone out their doors looking🙂
We’re the last country to sort. Even poorer nations have wired speakers for sirens. But you do you and don’t complain if you get flooded or no bed or no one looks for your child.

Exactly this.

I'm in the US and we have "regular" mass phone alerts. Warnings of extreme weather are relatively common, as well as Amber Alerts if a child is thought to have been abducted (they also put these alerts on any "smart" motorway signage too.)

We also have state-wide siren testing on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:00pm. Sounds like an air raid siren. I've only ever heard a non-test siren once, though, when we were in line for a tornado.

It's crazy to me that the UK is only just catching on to this...it saves lives.

GroovyGangConscript · 23/04/2023 15:20

BBC getting in on the phone alert atmosphere!

WalnuttyWhip · 23/04/2023 15:20

I’m another who didn’t receive the alarm. DH did at 14:59

Unprecedentedusername · 23/04/2023 15:21

I’ve had a second one

Me and dh are EE and didn't get one!

Firewalk · 23/04/2023 15:22

Ah my one from Three has just happened.

Thanks Three, good to know I'd be bloody dead in an absolute emergency 😁

Ilovetea13 · 23/04/2023 15:22

Myself and DS Three network android, neither of us have received anything as of yet!

Ichosetheredpill · 23/04/2023 15:22

Well my siren went off three times and stopped. No message, no okay button, nothing else 🤷‍♀️
