I'm interested to hear what it sounds like. For it to be going off all over the country at once, in all households and shops is exciting.

It's something completely new and feels kinda like something from Black mirror.

Maybe I'm just weird 😂

I didn't get one - central London, so no issues with reception or poor signal

No alarm for me 😥

I’m on EE

Mañanarama · 23/04/2023 15:23

It's crazy to me that the UK is only just catching on to this...it saves lives.

Exactly. It’s crazy to me why people are so bothered by it, it’s been in the pipeline for over a decade so we’re really far behind!

MadKittenWoman · 23/04/2023 15:23

It was deeply underwhelming.

GroovyGangConscript · 23/04/2023 15:23

There have been a couple of waves in the snooker audience.

wigywhoo

The government have accessed everyone’s phone numbers to send a blaring alarm, without permission, whether people want this or not for ridiculous and pie-in-the-sky reasons - in case of what? earthquakes? Tornados?

None of which we experience on any dangerous level in this country. I have yet to hear a valid explanation for the necessity of any of this.

It’s mad.

Amber alerts - if a child is thought to have been abducted in the area. Ours display a description of the child and the car they are thought to be in - make, model, color, registration. In some states with high numbers of elderly people (Florida, Arizona) they've started doing them for elderly people who've gone missing, particularly if memory loss or dementia is an issue. These are called Silver Alerts.

Eh surely that only works if the alert actually comes through. Some of us are still waiting...😂

Justmuddlingalong · 23/04/2023 15:24

2 same brand phones, both on tesco mobile, 2 feet from each other, both set to get the alerts. DP received his alert, I didn't.
Perhaps those who never got theirs will get them by courier pigeon at a later date.

Jenasaurus · 23/04/2023 15:25

2 mins early here, I was in the bath listening to a live and the guy was debating the pros and cons of the alarm with other people on his live, he did a count down but it was rudely interupted by my alert going off, then after it had done its business, the live came on and he was saying 1 more minute to go! there were 700 in the live, of those people the majority received it at 1 min past 3 or early like me, but 67 of them didnt get it at all! The person doing the live worked with phone technology and he was reassuring the panic stricken people how it works.

I'm with EE and ID Mobile and got nothing on either phone.

ID Mobile runs on the Three network.

Thanks - I've completed the survey!

I was in the garden, my phone left in the house. Can some one describe the noise they got ?

jaundicedoutlook · 23/04/2023 15:25

None of us got one - three phones in the car, but no alerts!

Sewannoying · 23/04/2023 15:25

I was disappointed when mine didn’t go off. I hadn’t realised my phone was too old (only has 3G). DH’s phone went off and was fairly loud - I thought it was in the kitchen by the noise, but it was upstairs instead. And a minute early.

Do you think those that got the alert earlier are the chosen ones :) we get first dibs on the bunkers that dont exist :)

Greentree1 · 23/04/2023 15:27

I thought I had 4G, but it seems like I don't, which is why I didn't get it. So everyone has to update their phones to get the emergency alerts, great thinking.

Shell23 · 23/04/2023 15:27

Can someone please explain to me what the heck this thread is about?? I've been out in public at 3 and heard nothing....

Iirr they don't use your actual phone numbers. It's linked to the network systems, not phone numbers.

FailingFlyFightingtoFlutter · 23/04/2023 15:02

15.01, four phones only two went off..so guess two of us are expendable

mine was also 15:01 I'm on a network that is piggy backing off Vodafone are you on a Vodafone network by any chance? seems like different network providers sent the alert out at different times. some received it at 14:59.

Emigratingimmigrant · 23/04/2023 15:28

We also have state-wide siren testing on the first Wednesday of the month at 1:00pm. Sounds like an air raid siren. I've only ever heard a non-test siren once, though, when we were in line for a tornado.

Central Europe testing too every first Wednesday. Never heard it outside of test luckily. 3 min long I think

Jitterybugs · 23/04/2023 15:28

It came through loud and clear on my iPhone on o2. I’m glad I was at home as I was completely taken by surprise although I knew it was due to happen today and I was shocked at the string of sweary words that I blurted out. I seem to have inherited my late Dad’s talent for stringing together every swear word I know into one long word when I’m startled 🤣 🤐
