To be a bit excited about the 3pm alarm?

I'm interested to hear what it sounds like. For it to be going off all over the country at once, in all households and shops is exciting.

It's something completely new and feels kinda like something from Black mirror.

Maybe I'm just weird 😂

Are we expecting a nuclear attack?

toomuchlaundry · 23/04/2023 15:13

Maybe it depends on which chip you had in your COVID vaccine whether you heard the alarm or not 😂

MidgeHardcastle · 23/04/2023 15:13

Yikes! I was wobbling on a ladder with my phone tucked down my bra. Surprised I'm still here and not being blue-lighted to hospital.

Ostryga · 23/04/2023 15:13

Ooh yes I’m also on 3 and didn’t get one!

3 is trying to kill us off. Conspiracy!

GroovyGangConscript · 23/04/2023 15:13

I'm on wi-fi - mobile data switched off - 4G phone - alarm worked.

I wonder how this is going to work in reality - the noise was so horrible I immediately hit OK to get it to stop and didn't read a word of the message. If there was really something going on are you expected to read it while the sound is blaring?

Exactly. It was such a loud, blaring siren, I jumped a mile and slid it up to stop it. Didnt get chance to read it as the cat launched herself at me (on the sofa). Couldnt see an 'OK' button and didnt get a voice, so no idea what I'm meant to do in a real emergency.

Ilovetocrochet · 23/04/2023 15:14

I wonder why some people got a voice message as well as an alarm, I didn’t and I left the alarm sounding until it stopped. I was in the house though so phone was on Wi-Fi which might make a difference?

The alarm was not as loud as I expected, had I been in a different room watching tv, I’m not sure I would have heard it.

Pudmyboy · 23/04/2023 15:14

No alarm at 3pm, so checked settings and it looks like I am supposed to opt in to emergency alarms (android phone). I didn't hear any others going off either, I am in the Midlands: anyone around Black Country hear anything?

Greentree1 · 23/04/2023 15:14

I didn't get an alert, one phone in the house did three didn't....

PaltnSepper · 23/04/2023 15:14

Got it on iphone and apple watch, at 14.59.

Message was unclear about how to get rid of it on the phone - no 'ok' button or 'clear' or 'delete' or anything. A long-press seemed to do it, but that wasn't obvious!!

On the watch, there was a 'dismiss' or 'delete' button for the message afterwards - stopping the sound on the phone seemed to get rid of it on the watch as well (sim cards are linked).

AppallinglyReheated · 23/04/2023 15:14

Samsung, Tesco mobile - both went off at 2.59pm and made me jump a bit.

I think a big SILENT button would be smarter than the 'OK' that got rid of the message - my first and instinctive action was to hit 'ok' to make it shut up... so I haven't really read the message and it is now gone so I couldn't look back at it.

If you could silence it first, THEN read, then discard it.. that would be more sensible!

OnedayIwillfeelfree · 23/04/2023 15:14

Mine didn’t go off! I checked the settings and it should have done. DH’s went off

RegainingTheWill2023 · 23/04/2023 15:14

Just got it now.

Nellieinthebarn · 23/04/2023 15:15

Just got mine, 13 minutes late. We'd all be dead!

Same here - three of us in the house, all on 3, no alerts...

deplorabelle · 23/04/2023 15:15

Husband and son with iPhones got the alert. Son and I on Android did not get it. I know emergency alerts work on my phone because I've had a real one whilst abroad. Bloody useless government

Purplebunnie · 23/04/2023 15:15

Mine was 12 minutes late and DD's has still not gone off but then we do have rubbish signal in our house

Qilin · 23/04/2023 15:15

BreadMeUp · 23/04/2023 15:03

I think the voice goes off if you don't click OK straight away.

I didn't click and still no voice.
Though don't think I have voice alerts set for my phone anyway., so may also be why.

I know they only go off if you are on 4G and above. If you were 3G or Wi-Fi only it doesn't sound apparently.

RisingSunn · 23/04/2023 15:15

Mine was early 2.59 and very underwhelming.

Rowthe · 23/04/2023 15:15

Still waiting.
No alarm. I'm also on the 3 network.
Samsung phone

Doyoumind · 23/04/2023 15:16

Whether you got speech with it and what accent it was are based on your phone settings, not the alert.

Itakecreaminmycoffee · 23/04/2023 15:16

wigywhoo

The government have accessed everyone’s phone numbers to send a blaring alarm, without permission, whether people want this or not for ridiculous and pie-in-the-sky reasons - in case of what? earthquakes? Tornados?

None of which we experience on any dangerous level in this country. I have yet to hear a valid explanation for the necessity of any of this.

It’s mad.

PerrinAybara · 23/04/2023 15:16

We all got the alert (Asda mobile) but not until 3:02. But it was so quiet it couldn't be heard from a different room.

So I'm clearly on the list to survive, but only if my phone is right next to me.

Emigratingimmigrant · 23/04/2023 15:16

Agree with others about OK should turn sound off not close the message too.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 23/04/2023 15:17

Also on 3 and would be dead.
