To think F off it’s my business if I take my kids to…

Walt Disney world florida.

kids will be both under 5, booked our first family to WDW florida and I’m incredibly excited as can’t wait to go and we got a great deal price wise BUT the reaction is not what I’ve been expecting.

in the travel agent on booking, older woman overheard and felt the need to say it’s absolutely silly taking children that young… I was taken aback

then at work chatting about upcoming holidays met with such reactions as ‘fucking idiots’ and selfish and more money than sense . My boss actually had to sort of intervene because the conversation felt quite heated and aggressive… since when did this become a thing? Why are people so against taking young children to Disney?

totally fine if it’s not your scene but it’s mine and kids under 3 are free so you don’t pay, mine have been to euro Disney twice and loved it . I don’t get this attitude

I remember how delighted my niece and nephew were with their trip when they were 6 and 4, and went to Disneyland Great Yarmouth.

LadyWithLapdog · 23/04/2023 13:27

Do kids still watch Disney?

You do realise your children are too small to be allowed on many of the rides?

I personally don't brag about vacations at work as we work with a team that has a wide range of salaries depending on their roles and I know some struggle financially just to make it rhough the month and to pay for necessities. I did think it rude when one person was talking about their 15K vacation when you know the person beside you is worried about keeping the heat on or feeding their kids. So it could be that. If you were going on about your 10K+ vacation to people who don't have the means and have struggles you can't understand, then I can see some getting testy. It might have just been tone deaf in the context.

But 2 weeks nz hardly cheap and our 2 weeks was less than 5 so not crazy crazy expensive and far less than a lot spend on their summer hols. I don’t moan about CoL, no one in this convo earned less than 45k for sure and lots were talking about their holidays they’ve got planned, some sounded extraordinary for instance, which is why it’s v unlikely it was a salary or jealousy thing. I’m probably the person who earns the least at that conversation tbh

No, Disney is famously unpopular among kids.

So I shouldn’t tell the travel agent we booked with where I want to go?

and when asked do I have holidays booked I should lie and pretend other wise? Bit weird but ok? Just to clarify my going to Turkey is ok but America isn’t? My colleague going to NZ for 2 weeks is ok but America isn’t?

Ok well with the update that they all have expensive holidays booked I have changed my mind.

you work with a bunch of mum shaming nobs.

Dancingqueen90 · 23/04/2023 13:30

We went when DC1 was 1.5. It was a group holiday with my side of the family. In-laws made loads of negative comments. "God I wouldn't want to do that flight with a toddler" and such like. Miserable gits. They were jealous.

Go have fun! Have a great time. Ignore the negative nobbers

fyn · 23/04/2023 13:30

We will be taking our daughter to Disneyland Paris for her 4th birthday, her little sister will nearly be 2. I think it’s the perfect time to go because they still believe in all of the magic and characters. They may not remember it but we will.

Do you realise you’re wrong l. A lot have no height restriction, some have 81cm which they are currently both taller than, some 97 which the eldest is taller than and then some 102 which she’ll be by the time we go and then other 112 which they won’t be able to ride but that’s ok, there’s plenty for them.

we’ve done paris and there’s just a handful they couldn’t go on, different ages get different things out of the trip

@Disneydisneydisneydisney , people should not have criticised your holiday, but if you are always this combative, it's not hard to see how it all blew up.

Wow how rude of them. People are strange. We are going to Florida this summer and my 12 year old can't remember going age 5 so yes, they might not remember it but that's no reason not to go.

Why do you think they were jealous?

LadyWithLapdog · 23/04/2023 13:32

@alyceflowers oh, sarcasm. Mine don’t know of many of the Disney characters mentioned (Minnie etc), though we’ve had our fair share of Frozen and a few others. I know they didn’t get as much from DL Paris.

There is no way that flights, hotel at Disney, Disney passes and meals for a week for a family of 4 is under 5K. According to Disney, before flights, a week for a family of 4 is $6500 USD.

And you are saying 2 weeks....not a chance that is under 5K.

CurlewKate · 23/04/2023 13:33

@Disneydisneydisneydisney "older woman overheard and felt the need"

Any relevance to the "older"?

ZenNudist · 23/04/2023 13:33

£4k for 10 days is an OK price. It's going to costs you more than that is it not? Will that be 1.5k for tickets then about £2k for food and spends?

Most people think WDW is about £10k for 2 weeks so if you are doing it cheaper that will explain the raised eyebrows.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/04/2023 13:34

I must admit I took my son at 6 to EuroDisney and he wasn't at all fussed- I think would have preferred a week in Majorca with sea and swimming pools.

Createausername1970 · 23/04/2023 13:34

My DS was 4 the first time we went and he loved it. We took lots of photos. We factored in a couple of calm days, so we stayed in the hotel and we played in the outside pool and then did International Drive on one day, and then on another day we went to the space centre as well, so it wasn't all Disney.

If you have buggies, take them, or take a trip to Walmart and buy a couple of cheap ones when you get there. Hats with peaks and the long piece of material at the back to protect their neck from the sun would also be good.
It's an 8 - 9 hour flight. When we flew virgin they had a childrens entertainment channel on the onboard system, but that only had 3 hours of programming on a continuous loop, so make sure you have stuff to keep them entertained for that length of time.

I don't know why you have encountered negative comments. I can't see you are doing anything wrong. If you were taking them on a sightseeing trip to Rome, I would be saying that's madness, but not Disney! Can't think of anything more child orientated.

Would you like me to show you my receipt of booking? It was 4.5k. If you look on tui, last min you can find 10 days for around that (remember my youngest is under 3 so free)

I just don’t get why it incites such strong feelings in people, might as well just stay at home all the time according to some

People have become fucking weird in recent years - rude and jealous and nasty. There doesn't seem to be politeness any more - ie. holding your tongue when you don't approve and just thinking in your head, that's daft taking tiny kids to WDW. But no, people just come straight out with what they are thinking and don't even attempt to say things in a diplomatic way or to decide when it's best to say nothing.
I don't mean that everyone is like that but a lot of people are and it seems to be getting worse as you can see on MN. The pile ons seem to be getting more and more vicious as time goes on.

Charlotteandwilbur · 23/04/2023 13:37

I don’t understand why people are so fixated on what the children will remember when they are grown up. They will enjoy it at the time and the grown ups will have a memory of that. Shall we just take our kids to feed the ducks 10000000 times until they’re old enough to remember other stuff 😂

SpringNTing · 23/04/2023 13:37

We have family in Orlando and who work at Disney, so started taking our kids to Disney as toddlers. They’ll love it!

They won’t remember it unfortunately…but they will have a great time (and so will you!).

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 23/04/2023 13:38

I am often baffled by “what’s the point in taking them if they won’t remember it”. Go and live in the moment and let them enjoy it now!
