I’ve turned my emergency alert off because I’m such a rebel!

Urgh

Facebook … numerous posts over the last days consisting of:

“EMERGENCY ALERT SWITCHED OFF!!”

“Leaving my emergency alert on so I can reply and tell them to go and fuck themselves!”

“Remember everyone, emergency alerts can and should be switched off by tomorrow!”

“That’s my emergency alert turned off lol”

Why??? What’s so big and clever about turning the alert off? Don’t people realise that most countries have had this for years? Turning it off doesn’t make you Billy Big Bollocks and boasting about it just makes you look stupid!

YABU - I’ve turned mine off and I’m proud of it! Down with the establishment!

YANBU - people are ridiculous

Make that 15:32 seeing as they set the alarm off one min early.

Very underwhelming.

That that bodes well then if "they" can't be trusted to even tell the time properly.

"Alert....hurricane arriving in 10 minutes....oops sorry make that 9".

Robinni · 23/04/2023 15:04

Well I wonder was that worth all the column inches and social media posts?!

Short, sharp burst akin to Percy on Thomas the Tank.

I was expecting much more of a loud siren.

And as predicted I totally forgot about it. Slight jump but nothing shocking!!

Oh maybe they're doing it in batches? Mine came through at exactly 14:59.

If that's the case I'm 4 minutes later than you. Does that mean I'm likely to die in an actual emergency? Grin

Winesoakedteatowel · 23/04/2023 15:04

I did t even hear it as was upstairs and phone not. Helpful 😂

Same

Are you an early part of the alphabet surname? I am.
Might not be that though but it could be perhaps.
Screen message with a voice reading it out .

SoupDragon · 23/04/2023 15:05

I love the fact that Radio 1 played "alarm" by Anne-Marie directly afterwards

BadNomad · 23/04/2023 15:05

😂 Meanwhile your roof blew off 6 mins ago.

DustyLee123 · 23/04/2023 15:05

I turned mine back on as I didn’t want to miss out 🤣

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/04/2023 15:05

I turned mIne back on to see if DH can hear it as he's partially deaf and can't hear things like the smoke alarm or a car alarm. Surprisingly he could hear it, they must have picked a mid range tone.

murasaki · 23/04/2023 15:05

Nothing for me
On silent but it was supposed to over ride that.

Well if they don't care if I live or die, I'd like my tax back Grin

Firewalk · 23/04/2023 15:06

Mine didn't work either Sad

Mortimercat · 23/04/2023 15:06

Neither me nor DH got the alarm and we have not switched it off, in fact I didn’t even know about it until earlier today.

PopGoesTheProsecco · 23/04/2023 15:07

Well that was an anticlimax. I put off driving to the shop for a few minutes in case it was really loud. But nothing happened.

🤣🤣
Still nothing!

I just googled and it says it might be something to do with local cell towers but just checked my work phone, which is in the next room, and apparently I did get the alert on that but I didn't hear it so it's clearly a super good alarm! Maybe it's my phone carrier?

tara66 · 23/04/2023 15:09

Nothing here.

That's interesting. I only got the mediocre alarm sound and a message on my screen. No voice!

If this was a real emergency, I'd be thinking the dishwasher was trying to tell me something was wrong with the pump.

ShowUs · 23/04/2023 15:10

I’m traumatised.

I’m going to need at least a week off work because I was triggered by a noise I knew was coming and was no louder than my morning alarm.

Just got it at 3:10pm.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 23/04/2023 15:11

I didn't get a voice message either

It wasn't that loud at all.

Didtheythough · 23/04/2023 15:12

The conspiracies are insane!!!!! I worked for the Environment Agency approx 5yrs ago and there was real frustration at not being able to reach everyone in the event a 'severe flood warning' was issued (severe warning means a genuine risk to life ). They could only warn people who had proactively decided to sign up for food warnings, and very few had. The EA will be one of the first agencies to make use of this, it is likely to save lives. Why all the conspiracy.

murasaki · 23/04/2023 15:12

Dp got his and he is sat about a foot from me, different network.mind, I'm three amd he is Vodafone

GoodChat · 23/04/2023 15:12

So if it was a test to see if works, is there somewhere that we report if it doesn't?

Or are you who've had it just the chosen ones?
