How would you feel after 3 cocktails and a beer?

I've not had this much to drink for a while (guessing the cocktails were actually bloody strong, I'm wondering if they had 2 shots each?) and my god I can feel it mentally! Obviously alcohol is a depressant, but I'm not depressed, just a really distinctive feeling - almost like the alcohol puts a filter on my general mood?

Drank about a litre of water last night before sleeping, so no headache and didn't feel sick, although worried last night that I'd be sick as a dog this morning. But nope! Physically all good, yet mentally just noticeably different.

It was only supposed to be two cocktails but the barman gave us a freebie, and I really should know better than to drink something cos it's free Grin

How would you feel, physically and mentally, after drinking this sort of amount?

The night of the drinking, I’d be paralytic and and there would be a lot of singing, dancing and laughing. The following day I’d feel very ill, and probably want to lie on the sofa all day.

It's really interesting how it affects everyone so differently.

Are some people's livers just made from cast iron so they don't feel any ill effects?

I think it's age more than anything! In my 20s that wouldn't have touched the sides. I'm 40 this year and have just given up my weekend bottle of wine because it makes me depressed, bloated, irritable, tired, gives me a dodgy stomach, and I eat crap for the next few days. Younger me would laugh.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 22/04/2023 20:22

Cocktails will have multiple measures in them a long island ice tea has five if I remember from my bar maiding days. Three would be a minimum in say an espresso martini. Unless in a student's dive bar where they are mostly ice. I would have had one and no more

bananaboats · 22/04/2023 20:23

Agree it depends on the cocktails but certainly wouldn't be feeling drunk or hungover after 4 drinks, maybe a bit merry at best!

BarkyMatherson · 22/04/2023 20:23

I would be on the floor! I’ve never drunk beer so don’t know how it would effect me but 3 nice cocktails would make me very merry!

Yorkshiredolls · 22/04/2023 20:29

If I had this at an early bottomless brunch id be tiddly, have a great time, chatty, but go to bed at normal time and feel fine the next day. If I did this on a Lateish evening id
sleep terribly and feel tired, anxious, somewhat regretful the next day

Kyse · 22/04/2023 20:29

Although the last time I went out I had 2 bottles of wine, 6 tequilas, couple of Malibu, some Prosecco and a cocktail
(Works do, £1000 behind the bar and we drank the lot by 11pm) Blush
I was disgustingly ill the next day and the room was still spinning at lunch time

LangClegsInSpace · 22/04/2023 20:32

Depends on the company. If it was people I didn't know well I'd be anxious to go home before I made a twat of myself. If I was with good friends I would be feeling merry and relaxed but probably heading home soon.

I'd expect to feel slightly rough but not at death's door in the morning.

Exactly...a bucks fizz would be mainly orange juice!

NEmama · 22/04/2023 20:35

Merry on the night and probably ok the day after.
One or two more cocktails would probably give a hangover the next day

megletthesecond · 22/04/2023 20:35

Semi-concious and ill.
I had three glasses of wine a decade ago and wasn't right for 3 days.

BranchGold · 22/04/2023 20:41

I think alcohol can have a different effect on the same person depending on the situation and timings.

Then asking multiple people who will skew from half a glass of wine in ten years, to regular 3/4 drinks a night people will give different answers.

Did you have a nice time with your friends?

Goodoccasionallypoor · 22/04/2023 20:43

It depends on how much I've had to eat but is likely to be quite merry that night and if I didn't drink a lot of water before bed, I'd feel it a bit the next day.

This is about the limit of what I can drink before I'm firmly in hangover territory.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 22/04/2023 20:44

Wrecked and poorly.
I'm allergic to most alcoholic but luckily I don't like it anyway.

RaininSummer · 22/04/2023 20:44

I would be be I steady and woozy.

greyhairnomore · 22/04/2023 20:44

Absolutely fine.

Susurrar · 22/04/2023 20:44

I don’t usually drink beer because it doesn’t agree with my stomach very well. 3 cocktails would probably make me a bit merry.
I wouldn’t expect any adverse effects the following day although that’s just me, I need a bit
more for THE FEAR to be triggered. I don’t ever get any physical side effects, just the anxiety kicks in after a heavy night out.

AuntieMarys · 22/04/2023 20:45

I'd be ok. Although I don't like beer.

BinkyBeaufort · 22/04/2023 20:45

I wouldn't be feeling anything

QueSyrahSyrah · 22/04/2023 20:46

I'd be the same as you OP. Physically ok but mentally a bit 'meh'. In fact, that's how I've felt all day after a boozy dinner out last night.

This is something that's changed with age. I'm (largely) old and wise enough to limit my alcohol intake to avoid killer hangovers now, but the 'beer fear' gets me more than it ever used to.

34and3 · 22/04/2023 20:47

I've been t total for 12 years so I'd be unconscious!!

BlueAndGreen89 · 22/04/2023 20:47

I think 4 is my limit so I would probably feel ok. Any more than that and I’d have a headache the next day and feel, like you say, a bit down.

Farmhouse1234 · 22/04/2023 20:48

It would be enough to make me vomit then have awful hangover the next day. The sort that means you can’t eat without being sick and can’t get out of bed.
I’m aware this is unusual.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 22/04/2023 20:50

I would feel pissed as a fart on the night but I would never drink that sort of mixture (or at least not in the last 30 years Grin).

I think I'd be ok and have shaken it off by the next day.

rubadubdubascrubinahottub · 22/04/2023 21:00

I would be off my face and absolutely dying the next day.
