Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

Maaaaay have bought some clotted cream and jam tonight, but the shop was Out Of Scones!!! So I bought crumpets which are proving a pretty amazing substitute carrier for the cream and jam. Who knew?!

Butter, then jam, then cream. Fight me.

Thank god - someone else that thinks like me. I'm always looked at like I am weird when I do this!

@Monstersinked I’m secure in that butter then cream then jam, but I’d be calling the police over the apricot jam.

Apricot jam is a civil matter, so it's actually a free 30 minute consultation with a solicitor you need.

SpaghettifingerFusillitoe · 23/04/2023 22:54

Christ- any other Devonians feeling pretty triggered by this thread?

Anniegetyourgun · 23/04/2023 23:03

When I was young, Devon was the place you had to pass through before you got to Cornwall. Later on I tried holidaying there and discovered they have a very charming way of pouring thin honey over clotted cream ice-cream (not to mention extra clotted cream and chopped hazelnuts), which kind of reconciled me to the place; but I have never gone back on the belief that they are confused on the scone front.

I'm a Joan Scone rather than a John Scone fwiw. My mother said it can also be pronounced "scoon", but I think that's going too far.

I'd comment on the post saying "oh god did they leave the card blank? I said to write XYZ. Anyway, hope you enjoy you thoroughly deserve it."

CsiEllie · 23/04/2023 23:31

Scone should rhyme with gone, otherwise the joke doesn't work.
Always jam first, I like blackcurrant but raspberry is great too, never apricot.
Then cream (as much as you can fit).

I once had a chocolate orange cream tea - orange marmalade on a chocolate chip scone, with Nutella (probably before the marmalade) then top with cream. It was a bit sickly mind.

Love a savory scone - cheese and chive, warm, with salted butter 🤤. Anyway that's my diet wrecked, thank you for this classic thread.

The other option for pronouncing scone is like the place Scone, in Scotland (Skoon)

CoffeeAndEnnui · 23/04/2023 23:36

Just cracked and added scones* (you can do the fastest cake in the world joke if you correctly pronounce them like Ron), RASPBERRY jam and clotted cream to my online shop just before the cut-off time.

*Plus crumpets too because I am revoltingly suggestible.

CoffeeAndEnnui · 23/04/2023 23:38

@CsiEllie Page just refreshed and I saw your post above mine. Very relieved to hear that someone else understands the absolute necessity of accompanying every cream tea with the scone joke.

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but you are weird.

See, I’m much more passive aggressive. I’d comment under their comment saying “well this is awkward 🌚” and then message friend who I sent the gift to saying “glad you enjoyed it”

LOL, yeah, I'd be doing this as well.

@WoollyRosebud
" First thing I ever made in cookery at school, cheese scones. Made them wearing my gingham apron I had made in needlework. Carried the ingredients in and finished product home in my gingham bag, also made in needlework. Gingham shit long gone to gingham heaven but still able to turn my hand to a cheese scone "

Ohhh, the gingham :-D lol yes, those gingham aprons.
Do they still do that in schools? Sales of gingham must have been through the roof if every kid in Britain made those pinnies.
Anyhoo, mine was purple/white.

With reference to jam for the scones, ( rhymes with gone ) did anyone here ever get the opportunity to try Pimms jam at all? Apparently it was sold by Sainsbury's a while ago but doesn't seem to still be available? but i'd like to try it if they bring it back at some point.

We're in Yorkshire so what should we do?

I'm from Devon and never saw anyone putting cream first (the apparent "Devon" way) until my 20s when I had a cream tea with my (now) MIL who is from Kent. She also puts butter on first 😱

MummyNeedsADrinkDear · 24/04/2023 01:55

@Monstersinked affogato for me is vanilla ice cream, a shot of espresso and a shot of amaretto.
Pour both on ice cream and try and race against the clock to get the ice cream eaten before it fully melts.

Also now looking for a nearby cream tea delivery service 😋

The other friend has not said that she sent the gift. She is just being happy for the reciever.
You wanted to donate as anonymous.
Say nothing.
Your friend is happy and others are happy for her, even a bit excited together.
It's all positive; job done.

I like my cream tea either sweet or savoury! My current favourite cheese scones come from M&S, they’re amazing warmed in the toaster till slightly crispy and then spread with proper salted butter and just the thinnest scrape of Marmite…

Love marmite. So, looks like Thursday tea is sorted. This menu planning is easy as shit

The clotted cream Ice cream just reminded me of something

I'm from Yorkshire (as previous mentioned once or twice) and there's a ice cream parlour/farm shop that calls its self after where I'm from with some yummy included into their name too.

Well. They do a cream tea ice cream. Clotted cream ice cream, jam and (Joan) scone all in a pot
