Someone's taken credit for anonymous treat!

Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

I’m in Yorkshire and reading this with horror

scone rhymes with gone
scones need sultanas in
YORKSHIRE TEA IS THE ONLY TEA
and you’re driving me mad with all the initials so you’re nowhere near me I don’t think
I need a cream tea now and the shops are shut.

I need to really try Yorkshire tea again, seeing as I'm Yorkshire but I found it too tea-y

Sorry if anyone’s said this already as I’m still catching up on the whole thread, but I’ve had a delicious variant on the affogato where not only is a small espresso coffee poured over the rich vanilla ice cream, but for extra decadence, a shot of Bailey’s is also added to the mix. I’m not generally a Bailey’s fan but in this instance… 😍

I cannot believe this thread.

It's scone like gone.
It's jam first then cream. Cream is not a butter substitute, it's a glorious topping!
Scones with anything other than fruit jam are just wrong. None of this lemon curd malarkey thank you very much. And as for salted caramel...🤮

With you on the lemon curd. Tried it and didn't do it for me

@Monstersinked I’m in Yorkshire too and also find Yorkshire Tea too tea-y. Much prefer PG Tips

I haven’t RTFT (HAVE read all OPs comments obviously - I know how to Mumsnet) so don’t know if this has already been said….

Has anyone tried a “Savoury Cream Tea”? Cheese scone, served with butter, grated cheese and onion chutney. Absolutely delicious.

Day out at NT house and gardens… savoury cream tea for elevenses then “real” cream tea for afternoon tea (fruit or plain scone, raspberry jam then clotted cream, served with English breakfast tea).

No one mentioned this and you are a master for bringing this to my attention

Someone mentioned cheese scone with soup. That's my lunch for tomorrow

But Tuesday the red onion chutney is coming out.

Thank you 🙏🏻

I would quietly give your recipient a call. Let them know it was from you. The problem with social media is things can get misconstrued.
Apart from the Coffee and Walnut combo mentioned above. I am a savoury girl. I do love a cheese and onion scone. Cut in two under the grill. Butter, a dab of mustard. Slice of thick ham and cheese and under the grill. Heaven on a plate.

UNDER THE GRILL

OH MY GOD

There's lunch sorted for Wednesday

Or even Masons Yorkshire Tea Gin

What's this you talk of!

Butter and cream are the work of the devil 🤮

So it’s the biggest dollop of strawberry jam possible. And scone rhymes with cone.

I realise that this won’t endear me to many!

I am liking the sound of cheese scones with soup, think that will make an appearance for lunch this week.

Cheese scone and soup is a genius turn of events

I actually don’t think the friend is implying it was her.

She initially said enjoy etc which I think we all would.

Then when the friend asked if it was her what was she supposed to say?

I initially thought straight away that I’d say no it wasn’t me but whenever we do secret Santa and someone asks me if it was me I always say I can’t say to keep it anonymous.

So I don’t think this person was actually trying to be a CF.

I’m not sure what I’d do now though.

You didn’t want her to know it was from you so this has worked in your favour and so I’d probably just leave it.

Any normal person would say no it wasn't me. Because she had no idea whether the op intended for it to be anonymous or whether the gift tag was just missed off.

First thing I ever made in cookery at school, cheese scones. Made them wearing my gingham apron I had made in needlework. Carried the ingredients in and finished product home in my gingham bag, also made in needlework. Gingham shit long gone to gingham heaven but still able to turn my hand to a cheese scone

namelessfornow · 23/04/2023 20:43

@Monstersinked At 3pm I was sat outside a pub with friend, waiting for others to finish a show... everyone's phones went off and I just sighed, imagining all the scones being sliced into simultaneously around the country. I am buying myself some tomorrow.

Monstersinked · 23/04/2023 20:43

Yep @mewkins , she definitely should of just said no, rather than ride my coattails

All the talk of cream teas and ice creams drowned in espresso almost made me forget

Friend is back in work tomorrow 😛😛

If you call the other person out, you're going to make your friend feel awkward too. I'd comment that it was from you and that you hope she liked it, while completely ignoring the other person. They'll look like a twat and you'll retain the moral highground.

This.

So glad you enjoyed it, I knew you would ❤️

and leave it at that x the other friend will probably delete her comment 😂

This was my favourite thread.
to add my thoughts;

  • scone like gone
  • warmed slightly (want to try toasted)
  • real butter
  • strawberry jam (preferably a posh one)
  • a tableteaspoon of clotted cream on top
  • pot of tea

on a side note, I bought clotted cream Friday and forgot to by scones. By the time I finish with this thread I’ll probably be eating it out the tub.

  • a tableteaspoon of clotted cream on top

You mis-spelled "ladle"

There's a good food recipe for affogato which makes me feel less stupid for asking if it's easy to make 😃

That was the recipe I found when I searched .

I thought - "TWO INGREDIENTS . . . YOU CAN DO THIS, VIPER! YOU CAN DO IT!!!"

Then there was no ice cream so the project has been put on ice (figuratively speaking)

Squooka · 23/04/2023 21:48

Re. pronunciation, I prefer to think of people as followers of either Scone the Baptist or Scone of Arc

(Scone of Arc is the correct version, obvs)

Sunbird24 · 23/04/2023 21:48

I like my cream tea either sweet or savoury! My current favourite cheese scones come from M&S, they’re amazing warmed in the toaster till slightly crispy and then spread with proper salted butter and just the thinnest scrape of Marmite…

Cherrysherbet · 23/04/2023 22:05

Cheeky cow.

Tbh though, I think you should have just put your name on it in the first place. If I had something nice from a friend, I’d want to know who sent it.

I guess you’ll pop your name on next time after this…….

Binglebong · 23/04/2023 22:07

Had some lovely scones today, inspired by this thread. freshly baked, homemade raspberry jam and far too much whipped cream. Heaven!
