Someone's taken credit for anonymous treat!

Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

This was afternoon tea in a hotel not a cafe my friend recieved. But it wasn’t from me even though she still thinks it was
even thought lve told her 😏

EarthSight · 23/04/2023 18:58

OP - say it was you publicly, on that same post or page where this other woman did that wink wink thing. Say that you did not want to initially tell her who it was so that you don't feel obligated to anyone. Hopefully the other woman will think twice before saying stupid things in future.

Would really help if posters could actually - you know - read the full thread or at least the OP posts @Mollywollywoo @Queenbee77 @Hmm1234 it’s moved on.

Hold on every one, @Waterfallgirl has decided she is the post and comment police and that we are irrelevant @Queenbee77 @Hmm1234.
Damn that anyways… always late to the party.
For those like me who haven’t time to read 30 pages of comments…

THE TOPIC HAS CHANGED!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
We are on scones now….
Which btw, I love.
Great big raspberry and white chocolate ones, just out of the oven, covered in real butter, champagne and raspberry jam (when I am feeling posh) and clotted cream.

Ooh, not good. If it was me, I’d contact my friend and say “I hope you liked the cream tea, I wanted to send you a surprise.” Don’t reference that other person claimed it or anything public, let your friend work it out for themselves.

This is exactly what you should do.

Pigflewpast · 23/04/2023 19:05

I’m in Yorkshire and reading this with horror

scone rhymes with gone
scones need sultanas in
YORKSHIRE TEA IS THE ONLY TEA
and you’re driving me mad with all the initials so you’re nowhere near me I don’t think
I need a cream tea now and the shops are shut.

Zonder · 23/04/2023 19:06

I cannot believe this thread.

It's scone like gone.
It's jam first then cream. Cream is not a butter substitute, it's a glorious topping!
Scones with anything other than fruit jam are just wrong. None of this lemon curd malarkey thank you very much. And as for salted caramel...🤮

HideTheCroissants · 23/04/2023 19:08

I haven’t RTFT (HAVE read all OPs comments obviously - I know how to Mumsnet) so don’t know if this has already been said….

Has anyone tried a “Savoury Cream Tea”? Cheese scone, served with butter, grated cheese and onion chutney. Absolutely delicious.

Day out at NT house and gardens… savoury cream tea for elevenses then “real” cream tea for afternoon tea (fruit or plain scone, raspberry jam then clotted cream, served with English breakfast tea).

Follyfell · 23/04/2023 19:09

Also in Yorkshire trying to figure out if we’re neighbours. I don’t live in Lost Property though so maybe not.

HideTheCroissants · 23/04/2023 19:10

In case anyone is interested I used this company to send cream tea hampers to friends and family as “cheer up” gifts during the pandemic. https://www.cornishhampers.com/collections/cream-teas

Cornish Cream Tea Hampers

Send a delicious cream tea gift from Cornwall with large scones, Rodda's clotted cream & local jam, along with other Cornish goodies.

PMSL. @Mollywollywoo I think I love you.
There was no need for that petty slight to call out anyone for posting on the original topic. What age are we ten? Childish and mean.
For me I’d have a coffee and walnut scone with lashings of butter and coffee flavoured cream. Delish and only 5 million calories.

I’ve heard it’s nice there though, better than Changing Room down the road.
A proper Yorkshire cream tea should be a Fat Rascal. Warm.

I would quietly give your recipient a call. Let them know it was from you. The problem with social media is things can get misconstrued.
Apart from the Coffee and Walnut combo mentioned above. I am a savoury girl. I do love a cheese and onion scone. Cut in two under the grill. Butter, a dab of mustard. Slice of thick ham and cheese and under the grill. Heaven on a plate.

This. All of this!
And Yorkshire tea.

I’ll have some of that!!!

Pigflewpast · 23/04/2023 19:29

Or even Masons Yorkshire Tea Gin

Furries · 23/04/2023 19:43

Butter and cream are the work of the devil 🤮

So it’s the biggest dollop of strawberry jam possible. And scone rhymes with cone.

I realise that this won’t endear me to many!

I am liking the sound of cheese scones with soup, think that will make an appearance for lunch this week.

Please stand over there, left a little. Back a little. Why does it look like a trapdoor? I don't know what you mean. And this lever? I'm just holding it. Nothing to worry about.

Furries · 23/04/2023 19:59

@ThatFraggle 🤣🤣

PollyAmour · 23/04/2023 20:01

Savoury cheese scones - now you're talking! Some real butter, a wedge of vintage cheddar and some spicy onion chutney. It would have to be eaten accompanied by a pint of ale though, not Yorkshire tea.

SauvignonBlanche · 23/04/2023 20:12

ApiratesaysYarrr · 23/04/2023 18:30

I'd go for the "oh , you sent her one as well?" approach with a photo of enough of the receipt/confirmation email to show that you have done it, but only if it was something like a birthday.

When you've given it because the recipient is having a hard time, I wouldn't as it might stress them more to see 2 friends fighting it out on FB, but I would definitely send your friend a text to say that you sent it, as others have suggested.

RTFT 😤

I appreciate it’s long so why not just the OP’s posts?

darjeelingrose · 23/04/2023 20:19

I am horrified, just horrified at the idea of a toast scone. I have toasted a scone, it is what you do when they are past their best. For a cream tea, you need the best scones and slightly, slightly warmed through. Enough with the "toasted" philistines😡

IHateLegDay · 23/04/2023 20:22

To everyone suggesting lemon curd on a scone....are you ok?

Monstersinked · 23/04/2023 20:28

BouleBaker · 23/04/2023 18:29

I do love an affogato, especially if they put a tiny bit of crumbled amaretti biscuit on the ice cream BUT I go rogue in how I eat them.

Sip of hot black deep coffe

Tiny spoon of ice cream and crumbly bits

Repeat

THEN AND ONLY THEN, douse the ice cream with the rest of the espresso.

Then I've had ice, cream, coffee, and dessert.

DOING IT

Just adding a curve ball in. I first had this on the Isle of Wight and have managed to convert a few people

CHOCOLATE CREAM TEA

Hot Chocolate (great for those of us that don't do tea or coffee)
Scone (as in gone) with chocolate chips
Nutella
Clotted Cream
And a few strawberries, to make it slightly healthier 🤣

This might be the way to get my kids in on the tradition. Break them in slowly
