Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

Im in US and never had a scone with cream or jam. Only plain. I can’t make the 3PM UK Scone-on but will be rectifying all of this having my first this week.

I’m already convinced that jam first must be best. Also, scone like cone. But am delighted that there are options because I used to say it the other way.

I love this! You must tell
Is what you thought 😍

I will!!

I feel the need to weigh in. Sorry to reignite things but if using whipped cream you must use double rather than whipping cream as it comes out far thicker. Maybe over whip it slightly so it is firmer.

And for the record; it goes on top of the raspberry jam.

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/04/2023 17:54

Don't you usually get the jam and cream in little pots so you can do it whichever way you want?

Ooooh!

Maaaytron!

I haven’t RTFT, so apologies if already mentioned, but a Cornish person once told me about thunder and lightening cream teas (clotted cream and syrup!)

That sounds AMAZING!

<begins to plot a thunder and lightening cream tea . . . >

What's that black stuff in the picture? It looks like caviar.

Caviar is just fish-egg jam, isn't it? 🤔

Wouldn't be my first choice admittedly, but each to their own.

I’m having to unwatch this thread now, it’s just too upsetting.

I agree.

Stop with this "toasted scone" talk.

THERE MAY BE CHILDREN READING THIS THREAD, FFS!

😡

I have this as an earworm today. I am imagining the siren going off at 3pm scoffing a cream tea with Holly Johnson and watching two tribes of Mumsnetters fighting over whether cream or jam should be placed on the scone first

Not that I am advocating violence in any way.

It's a distressing memory, but we had to ask for more squirty cream as the original serving had disintegrated while we were eating our sandwiches. 😧

Thoughts and prayers . . .

Emotionalsupportviper · 23/04/2023 14:43

I had never heard of affogato, so looked it up.

Now I am going to try it.

Monstersinked · 23/04/2023 14:53

I'm ready.

Come on creepy alarm

One lemon curd and one jam.

I'll return after, for another set, with cream then jam. Depends if I can handle it!

Enjoy my loves

Blaming @Monstersinked for the fact I've just MADE SCONES (power of suggestion + no shops open, think cream has gone off but shall MUSCLE THROUGH with remaining jam in fridge which will obvs go on top of butter then topped with cream because I am not an animal) but nearly bloody dropped the lot when stupid bloody spooky alarm thing went off!

(Knew it was happening but still forgot..)

I sat staring at mine and when the alarm went off I was like a horse out the blocks. Nearly choked

A little underwhelmed with the curd, can't lie

I've ordered scones, conserve and clotted cream for delivery tomorrow! Will be the basis of very treaty breakfasts with black tea

If I’m served whipped cream then put it on the scone after the butter, and make a kind of well in the middle of the cream to spoon the jam into so it doesn’t slide off.

Now… scone to rhyme with stone or gone?!

(it’s stone)

Stone and gone rhyme anyway? And both rhyme with scone.

CaptainSeven · 23/04/2023 15:59

Oldnproud · 23/04/2023 08:21

Scone, like cone, not con.

Scone like con. Definitely.

WoollyRosebud · 23/04/2023 16:07

We haven’t yet covered what sort of tea should be drunk with a cream tea. I favour Earl or Lady Grey.

That 3pm alarm was something and nothing. A genteel parping noise on my phone

Yeah, probably earl grey for me but I do like a good old tetleys or English breakfast. Sometimes the earl grey feels too floral with the jam

Never coffee. (Shock, some do it with coffee)

Never fruit tea.
