Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

This might be my favourite thread of all time 😂

throwing my tuppence in:
scone pronounced like gone
jam then cream
have never had a cream tea in my life!

In my (humble) opinion :

Scones pronounced line stone

Jam then cream, preferably raspberry but I'll go with strawberry

But what I have learned is:

I want to try lemon curd
I'm open to butter first
I want to try hot scones
I like the idea of doing the top and bottom half differently
I know it has caused tension in the group but I'm going to have to try whipped cream

I'm going to Aldi at 10 when they open. They better bloody have clotted cream. Anyone know if they do?

My local one does - I got some last week to have with scones. Yum!

Shame cf didn't get the full roasting they deserved, but this is still a highly entertaining read.
Hope this makes it into mumsnet classics. BrewCake

I know this won’t go down well, so…I don’t like cream! Of any kind.

so my ideal scone (pronounced like stone) is warm, butter then jam.

You could have a cheese scone. I love a cheese scone.

I actually might like a cheese scone more than a cream tea but for science I'm sticking to cream tea today 🍦

I know I can Google but WTF is a "cream tea"?

Is it like an afternoon tea?

This - tea with jam, scones and cream (usually clotted cream).

Well, it gets a bit heated.

But, I'm my eyes and experience it's a cup of tea or two, servers with a luscious scone (plain not fruity but others will disagree) with clotted cream and jam

You eat the scone with the jam and cream in your preferred order. (See previous)

Today I am going to try allllll the orders and be sick.

I think afternoon tea throws in some other cakes and sarnies, maybe even a pastry and some fizz.

Cream teas all about the tea and scone (and cream and jam)

Oh, yes, you must have two scones!

Affogatos are awesome and the perfect dessert/pudding whatever you want to call them. I hope you poured the espresso over the ice cream and didn’t treat it as ice cream and coffee seperately.

I’m up for a 3pm siren cream tea and I’ve got an unopened jar of lemon curd already.

The waiter poured it over for me with artistic flare. By wailed and whooped like he'd performed brain surgery

I do like the sound of your restaurant OP. Birthday songs and hats, artistic drink pouring or should that be performance pouring, singing and dancing and fabulous sounding food.

Much more fun than crouching indoors peering through a chink in the curtains and not answering the front door ever. Are you sure with such an attitude you should be on MN?

I hope there’s some left!

And lastly, just incase you were wondering what I ate when I was out last night (my friends always want to know and I'd say we're all friends...apart from cheeky cow obvs)

I had grilled aubergine to start and mains was prawn fettuccine. it was possibly the most amazing thing I've ever tasted

And I'd never had this before but for pudding i had an affogato. Never had or heard of it before and bloody hell it was heaven.

This particular restaurant is where everyone goes for birthdays so it was packed and every 10 Minutes or so (it feels like) they play a birthday song and all the waiters come out singing happy birthday to the birthday person, put a hat on them and the whole place claps and cheers. How anyone gets a hot meal
Is beyond me!

At first I thought it was the most cringe thing I'd ever seen, but by birthday 6 I was clapping and whooping and by birthday 9 (and wine 4) I was dancing with the birthday granddad next to me.

Whatttta night

I think we're neighbours! I'm also in Yorkshire. Was the Italian where everyone goes for birthdays called something beginning with D then S?

If so, please could I have the name of the cafe that does cream teas as I really want one now and can't be arsed going to Aldi as I was also out out last night. Went to see a Madness tribute band at a venue beginning with P 😁

I'm in.

namelessfornow · 23/04/2023 10:21

V peeved I can't 'down tools' and whip out my cream tea when the siren goes off, as attending an event this afternoon. BUT IF I COULD, I would not be eating it with strawberry jam, which is a sickly sort of jam, and would have raspberry or (ooh, fancy) cherry.

And there would be no effin raisins or currants or sultanas in my scones. Ever.

Wacadu · 23/04/2023 10:35

Last cream tea I had included bergamot curd. Bloody lovely it was.

IHateLegDay · 23/04/2023 10:46

I'll be out this afternoon so I won't be able to join in with the cream tea siren 💔

Monstersinked · 23/04/2023 10:55

I'm on my way, from misery to happiness again!
