Someone's taken credit for anonymous treat!

Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

If I’m served whipped cream then put it on the scone after the butter, and make a kind of well in the middle of the cream to spoon the jam into so it doesn’t slide off.

Now… scone to rhyme with stone or gone?!

(it’s stone)

Gone! One of my exes pronounced it like 'stone'. It's little wonder we split up.

DrFoxtrot · 22/04/2023 23:14

It's a distressing memory, but we had to ask for more squirty cream as the original serving had disintegrated while we were eating our sandwiches. 😧

WhatthehellisplanB · 22/04/2023 23:39

Going to disgust many here I'm sure but I'm scottish, I toast scones then pop them under the grill with a handful of grated cheddar on top. Yummy! Grin

Absolutely stone! There is no other answer

I’m Scottish and I absolutely do not claim this abomination.

Cheese scones, yes. Scones with cheese, no.

however, give me a SODA scone with cheese and we can be pals.

Have you considered composing a Phoebe Buffay-style song called “Cream Tea Thieving Bitch” and posting a video of you performing it on Instagram? I’d do that.

(Well, I probably wouldn’t, but how good would it be?)

That’s just made me roar!

DontMakeMeShushYou · 22/04/2023 23:54

DrFoxtrot · 22/04/2023 22:09

Am I the only person that has ever been served whipped cream?! 😂

Note I say 'served' - given to me by someone else/ cafe. It's not like I could demand an alternative 😬.

No, they've done it at work sometimes. I cannot fully express the disappointment when you dig your spoon into the cream and discover it is whipped rather than clotted.

And then there was the day that I bit into it and it turned out to be chantilly cream. 😦

Nope. Soda scones are minging.
We could never be pals.
or we could and annoy each other for life about scones.

Have you ever buttered one, grilled it, then made roasted cheese with it? It’s a little piece of heaven (more calories than the entire Pizza Hut menu tho)

I can’t imagine using a standard scone for such a task.

Worriedmotheroftwo · 23/04/2023 00:14

Genuinely my favourite mumsnet thread of all time! OP, I wish I had you as my friend, you're hilarious! 😂

Frambuesa · 23/04/2023 00:27

I don't post very often on MN but I just wanted to say how much I thoroughly enjoyed this thread 🧁🫖

Ohhhhh that is one cheeky fucker! Do you know where they live? Sneak out in the dead of night, splat some jam on their doorstep and squash a scone into the middle of the jam puddle. They'll know what it means.
Wink

😂😂😂😂

I feel like this thread belongs in classics. Utter utter brilliance.

Agreed - this is a thread with everything!

First, a CF thread, which is always satisfying - and CF has to back track too, instead of getting away with it. Second, a debate about pronunciation (scone). Third, diverging views on the correct way to serve or eat something (jam or cream first). Fourth, united feelings of horror (squirty cream).

Monstersinked, you have done a lovely thing for your friend and provided lots of amusement for us too.

Monstersinked · 23/04/2023 07:14

GOOD MORNING

I'm sorry but last night turned into me going OUT OUT!

I think the adrenaline of this thread, not having to cook and the atmosphere of the Italian we went to made me unstoppable

But then too much fizzy wine meant I passed out as soon as I got home.

I've just got myself a strong (not cream) tea and im going to read over the epicness of what's been going on whilst I e been dancing on tables.

I'll come back with an update

In case no one’s mentioned it have you seen Friday Night Dinner with Jiby and the cream teas (Swiss au pair who’s bonkers but addicted to cream teas). Rewatched it the other day and it’s very funny!

Saltired · 22/04/2023 11:07

See, I’m much more passive aggressive. I’d comment under their comment saying “well this is awkward 🌚” and then message friend who I sent the gift to saying “glad you enjoyed it”

I agree, I'd want the person who's claiming to have sent it to be embarrassed.

I wouldn't even be saying 'well this is awkward', I'd straight up be saying "what are you on about? You didn't send it, I did!!"

Do you have a receipt for the purchase? As I think the person claiming it would be brass necked enough to argue the toss that it actually was them that sent it.

The cheek of some people, why would it enter someone's head to do that???

Monstersinked · 22/04/2023 15:01

Cheeky cow has rained in our parade

She's just text my friend.

"Hi, just in from xxxx's football training, so couldn't text earlier. I didn't sent the present darling, just said it was a lovely idea. Hugs, cheeky cow"

Light and breezy, no acknowledgement!!

Oh F off to that!

I’m not usually into revenge but this remark would have me plotting something. Very sly. I think your CF needs a gold medal and this needs to go in classics! wondering if CF is MNer or if a tabloid can pick this up?!

Orders76 · 23/04/2023 07:46

Always scone like scone.
Order of service is toast, butter, jam, cream.

Oh my life, you guys are amazing. Best hungover morning, reading your replies.

Okay, so I'll respond to each issue separately, hope I don't miss anything

So friend tagged me on Facebook, removed cheeky cows tag and left it at that.

Some of our mutual friends have commented to me or friend "lovely gift", "nice idea"

Cheeky cow has been consistent and love hearted all that.

No one has asked what cheeky cows role is in all this and she hasn't said dot

Cafe have declined to comment

My brother commented and called me tight because I've never sent him anything like that

My friend went onto share a funny facbook memory and now theyre all commenting on that and have forgot about cream tea post so I can't imagine there will be new developments here

In my (humble) opinion :

Scones pronounced line stone

Jam then cream, preferably raspberry but I'll go with strawberry

But what I have learned is:

I want to try lemon curd
I'm open to butter first
I want to try hot scones
I like the idea of doing the top and bottom half differently
I know it has caused tension in the group but I'm going to have to try whipped cream

I'm going to Aldi at 10 when they open. They better bloody have clotted cream. Anyone know if they do?

OP posts:
biehrvduevr · 23/04/2023 08:20

They usually do. Hope it's lovely!

Oldnproud · 23/04/2023 08:21

Scone, like cone, not con.

IHateLegDay · 23/04/2023 08:29

I say scone like con.
Scones always hot!
Jam then cream 💖

I had an afternoon tea with my friend on Thursday and she sliced her scone in half and did jam then cream on one half and cream then jam on the other half, to see which she preferred.
She preferred the cream first and now I don't know if I can continue the friendship.

Monstersinked · 23/04/2023 08:32

And lastly, just incase you were wondering what I ate when I was out last night (my friends always want to know and I'd say we're all friends...apart from cheeky cow obvs)

I had grilled aubergine to start and mains was prawn fettuccine. it was possibly the most amazing thing I've ever tasted

And I'd never had this before but for pudding i had an affogato. Never had or heard of it before and bloody hell it was heaven.

This particular restaurant is where everyone goes for birthdays so it was packed and every 10 Minutes or so (it feels like) they play a birthday song and all the waiters come out singing happy birthday to the birthday person, put a hat on them and the whole place claps and cheers. How anyone gets a hot meal
Is beyond me!

At first I thought it was the most cringe thing I'd ever seen, but by birthday 6 I was clapping and whooping and by birthday 9 (and wine 4) I was dancing with the birthday granddad next to me.

Whatttta night
