Someone's taken credit for anonymous treat!

Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

We're in Yorkshire so what should we do?

Also in Yorkshire but from the Shire. Always. Always cream first.

Dunk the scone in the tea? Grin

module · 22/04/2023 21:38

If you can manage to get any jam to stay on top of the cream, then you are not using enough cream.

BB2023 · 22/04/2023 21:38

Cream first!! 👍👍👍

See, I’m much more passive aggressive. I’d comment under their comment saying “well this is awkward 🌚” and then message friend who I sent the gift to saying “glad you enjoyed it”

I think this is good actually

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/04/2023 21:42

I can never remember what I do until I’ve got the scone in front of me. I think it’s whichever one is Cornwall rather than Devon.

SchoolTripDrama · 22/04/2023 21:43

@VisionsOfSplendour Today is Saturday 🤣

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/04/2023 21:43

But you definitely don’t put butter on them!

SchoolTripDrama · 22/04/2023 21:48

I cut my scone in half and pop each half in the toaster then slather in butter and then M&S Raspberry Conserve!

Don't knock the toasted scone until you've tried it - It. Is. HEAVEN. Especially if they're M&S clotted cream scones!

I don't work for M&S I just adore their jam & scones!

I’m having to unwatch this thread now, it’s just too upsetting.

I think that's hilarious 😂just think that other friend must be a complete weirdo

OrangeRock · 22/04/2023 22:01

100% CFer has seen this post and recognised herself, or a friend is on MN and given her the heads up. No way would she comment like that without anyone wanting to think it was her and not correcting a single person.
Yoir friend needs to post a picture eating it with “mystery solved, @Monstersinked sent me the lovely gift”

DrFoxtrot · 22/04/2023 22:02

@Finalstar whipped cream is not my choice but it has been served to me in the past, and necessitated a jam first approach.

I have also been served SQUIRTY CREAM with scones on one traumatic occasion, from which I have not yet fully recovered 😳.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 22/04/2023 22:04

Whipped cream?

Grimeduster · 22/04/2023 22:07

I'm impressed we got to page 17 before the jam vs cream debate erupted.

Cream teas are rank anyway. Dry, crumbly cake/biscuit hybrid that tastes like wet flour. The only decent culinary offerings from Cornwall and Devon are pasties and spicy spuds.

DrFoxtrot · 22/04/2023 22:07

@ThatFraggle see my post below - I have had to adapt my cream/ jam regime only when served with inferior types of cream.

I agree that clotted cream is preferred but whipped cream is better than none 😆.

DrFoxtrot · 22/04/2023 22:09

Am I the only person that has ever been served whipped cream?! 😂

Note I say 'served' - given to me by someone else/ cafe. It's not like I could demand an alternative 😬.

SeasonFinale · 22/04/2023 22:11

Your friend should just post Mystery Resolved it was lovely friend Monsters who sent me the tea. What a star she is.

Im just about to go out for dinner, so I have to disappear but friend says she's tagged me in the Facebook post. We agreed no further activity but it appears she's gone rogue.

I can't look or I'll never get out the door

I'll update later but in the meantime, as you were .

This is painfully suspenseful OP. I now shall not rest until I get this update. 😂

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 22/04/2023 22:17

Whipped cream with a cream tea? Not clotted?

Philistines.

SQUIRTY CREAM?!
What the fuck did I just read?!

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 22/04/2023 22:21

Fuck me. I thought there was going to be a riot there between jam / cream first factions. But fucking SQUIRTY CREAM?!

I think we can all agree that that's a threat to our very existence, and all other differences should be set aside.

Armed with pitchforks and lb tubs of Roddas, we will prevail.

Username84 · 22/04/2023 22:33

To be fair squirty cream used to be the only option to make it vegan and edible.

Finalstar · 22/04/2023 13:56

I'd be tempted to suggest to Tea Friend that she edits her original post to say the chat has been brilliant, but it's now time to say thank you to the genuine sender OP, with a special mention to Creamy Fucker for throwing her off the scent!

It avoids any overt nastiness. It will annoy the hell out of Creamy Fucker as she can't complain, and it will make everyone else think she looks bonkers for doing what she's done.

I wouldn’t try to help Creamy Fucker save face.

DebussytoaDiscoBeat · 22/04/2023 22:58

If I’m served whipped cream then put it on the scone after the butter, and make a kind of well in the middle of the cream to spoon the jam into so it doesn’t slide off.

Now… scone to rhyme with stone or gone?!

(it’s stone)
