Someone's taken credit for anonymous treat!

Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

In what world is butter the same level as cream? Their consistency and texture and spreadableness is worlds apart which makes cream impossible to put first! 😅

Clotted cream has a very similar texture to butter.

Username84 · 22/04/2023 19:24

Are people out here NOT buttering their scones before they jam/cream?

That’s the Lancashire way!

How has cf friend gone rogue? Placemarking for the drama. Grin

I'm thinking this fake gift giver friend is now telling other people about how amazing the gift she gave is ?

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 22/04/2023 19:36

I admit to not having read every comment on the thread, so someone might have made this point but - cream is a TOPPING, not a spread. Jam is a SPREAD, not a topping.

So - obviously it's jam, then cream.

Sorry for the caps but this is IMPORTANT.

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 22/04/2023 19:37

And yes to butter as well. Because obviously you don't want jam on bare scone.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 22/04/2023 19:37

Message your friend and tell her and that other person who is acting like she did it would put a message to her also. The bloody cheek of her.

No need for butter with clotted cream.

You won't have a bare scone if you put the clotted cream on first.

I refer you to my earlier post re the status of clotted cream.

I really, really hope there are lots of non-British people reading this thread.

You need to post on the Facebook post ‘I see you’re a mumsnetter too’ with a link to this thread.

I refer you to my earlier post about the differences between spreading jam on clotted cream and vice-versa.

I am so confused. What is a cream tea? Why is it given a place name? Who the fuck puts cream first? What kinda cream is similar consistency to butter? What is clotted cream? NONE OF IT MAKES SENSE TO ME!!!!!

Mojo777 · 22/04/2023 19:48

What a funny thread! 😁 Looking forward to any updates after dinner. Lol

Sorry to interrupt the scone talk.. but I haven't got enough closure on CF yet. She obviously sent a text instead of replying on the FB post because she still wants it to seem as if she was the sender and wants the public praise from the commenters thinking she was the thoughtful friend... Will this be rectified?! Will OP be acknowledged instead? I need closure!

DeflatedAgain · 22/04/2023 19:54

Send her a message saying did the cream tea arrive?

The other friend will look like a right twat 🤣

Hawkins003 · 22/04/2023 20:04

@Monstersinked technically she's not taken the direct credit for it. But it's alluded that it's her that did the good deed

Finalstar · 22/04/2023 20:06

The jam in that Wiki pic looks deeply unpleasant 💩

I think it's an unfortunate picture. I can guess at what it looks like in real life.

It belongs atop the cream, anyway.

Ionlydrinkondaysendinginy · 22/04/2023 20:11

Jam then cream, anybody who does it different is wrong

This happened to me! I was sent some gorgeous jewelery on a few occasions during lockdown, and I mentioned it to my sister who said it was her. I had a funny feeling that it wasn't- it just wasn't her style to do that, although she is generous. (There was one piece that had a handwritten quote on a piece of paper with it, and it wasn't the type of thing she'd say iykwim). I later (much later!) found out that it was from a man I knew.

Never confronted my sister.

In your place, I'd send a PM to say you hope she enjoyed the cream tea and that you weren't going to say it was you but some people aren't keen on anonymous gifts.

I wouldn't say it by PM - I'd put it right out there on social media. After all, the secret was to be kept from the recipient not anybody else, and PMing the recipient would reveal the secret anyway.

I'd want the other "friend" to know she'd been outed and to suffer the full-scale embarrassment of being outed on social media. Bloody cheek!
