Quick silly one but not sure what to do.

Friend has had a hard time so I've sent them a cream tea type surprise treat. Left the card anonymous but she finds it difficult to receive without reciprocating and I wanted her to have something just for her with no strings, to cheer her up.

She posts it on social media, another Friend (I don't know) comments, saying enjoy, glad you like, you deserve it type thing

My friend says ahhhh was it you, youre amazing

Other friend says wink wink it's anonymous so I guess you'll never know

Now, to me there alluding it was then. Taking all the bloody credit. I know I didn't send it for credit or even thanks but I'm a little pissed off!

I haven’t RTFT, so apologies if already mentioned, but a Cornish person once told me about thunder and lightening cream teas (clotted cream and syrup!)

BeverForget · 22/04/2023 18:11

Ooh, not good. If it was me, I’d contact my friend and say “I hope you liked the cream tea, I wanted to send you a surprise.” Don’t reference that other person claimed it or anything public, let your friend work it out for themselves.

Yes I would do this . I really hate it when someone takes credit like this it's truly selfish .

Cream first then jam, but it has to be home made pouring jam, you can't use shop bought!

U wot m8?

I don't think I even know anyone in real life who has actually made jam from scratch.

We're in Yorkshire so what should we do?

Butter, jam then cream.

CurzonDax · 22/04/2023 18:29

It was only a couple years ago (and I am a fully grown adult) that I discovered that some people put the jam on first - why?

I mean, my first experiences of jam were with my toast at breakfast, growing up. Always, butter than jam, so jam is always on top. I agree with the PP who said you need to treat the cream like butter in this instance. If course you do 😎

(Lighthearted - it does not matter to me what why you put your cream or jam on your scones, as long as you don't make your tea by adding the milk before the water, now that isn't on.)

This sounds gorgeous. Anything with cream will do me tbf.

I do , but it's more of a fruit compote rather than a jam , I can't handle how much sugar goes into jam .

Scones are nicest warm, so it makes sense to put jam on first to act as a barrier between warm scone and cream.

ThatFraggle · 22/04/2023 18:49

What's that black stuff in the picture? It looks like caviar.

Confusion101 · 22/04/2023 18:50

HOW DOES THE JAM STAY ON IF THE CREAM GOES ON FIRST??!
This light hearted gas thread is now stressing me out 😂😂😂

SpikyHatePotato · 22/04/2023 18:52

ThatFraggle I don't think I even know anyone in real life who has actually made jam from scratch.

If you're in London at the end of next week or the beginning of the following one, you can meet me and I'll give you a jar of jam I made from scratch. (I even picked the fruit myself!)

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/04/2023 18:53

Those who do jam then cream

How do you do your toast

Jam then butter ?

Course not

Butter /cream as the base. Then jam

It will be jam, either blackcurrant or blackberry. I would guess the former.

WoollyRosebud · 22/04/2023 19:03

I had a cream tea in a hotel a while ago where they served a choice of strawberry jam or lemon curd. I tried both of course, would have been rude not to, both were delicious

In what world is butter the same level as cream? Their consistency and texture and spreadableness is worlds apart which makes cream impossible to put first! 😅
