I don't believe we've been to the moon and SpaceXs failure further convinces me.

I know I've posted this before and the majority of you think I'm batty, but I don't think we've landed on the moon.

3 billion USD, a giant leap in technological advances and yet it can't even launch.

But we have successfully launched many many times so this failure to launch proves nothing about the moon

You believe in the moon?! It’s just a giant hologram.

You've obviously missed the documentaries and reports disputing them being on the moon. They included the way the flag was blowing etc.

As for no-one leaking it. We still have a wall of silence from the police at Hillsborough. We still don't know how the dead body of Marilyn Monroe got back to her apartment. There's no-one campaigning for the truth, so it's easy to keep secrets. In the US if you question the achievements of the country, then you can find yourself and family in real danger, thanks to easy gun ownership. Russians did dispute that it happened, but it was said that it was sour grapes. Like pp I'm open minded on it. I can't help feeling that if it was really possible, Elon Musk would be pissing about on there.

Why would the flag not be waving? There is no atmosphere on the moon to stop it waving 👋

Several posters on this thread make Ali G seem like Einstein.

You're almost as stupid as Elon Musk.

As stupid as Elon Musk 🤣 I bet you're the type which believed Matt Hancock was crying on TV and wears a mask to watch the BBC News 🤣 love to see you debate someone with Musks brain.

Many years ago, I visited the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral and attended a talk by a retired astronaut. He told us that by the late 1960s, given the successful progress up to that point of the Gemini & Apollo programs, NASA were reasonably confident they could put humans on the moon.

Bringing them back to Earth alive & well, however, was a completely different matter. And nobody knew if it was actually going to work until it did. The space pioneers of both the USA & USSR were incredibly brave people.

You have to watch The Right Stuff. They were either incredibly brave or utterly bonkers.

MumUndone · 20/04/2023 19:02

I think it's weird everyone believes it happened, sort of like a reverse conspiracy theory. We simply didn't have the technology then, we just didn't.

YOU didn't have the technology. NASA quite obviously did.

DemonicCaveMaggot · 20/04/2023 20:39
is a really good explanation for how the moon landing couldn't be faked.

Also, there were several hundred thousand people involved in the moon launch, not just with NASA but companies supplying them too. Do you think that number of people could keep a secret such as the moon landing being faked for nearly 60 years?

YOU didn't have the technology. NASA quite obviously did.

Except we did - comparable technology was available in aircraft at the time.

Viburnam · 20/04/2023 17:55

I’ve felt precisely the same, particularly after todays failure. The thing that got me really thinking about the conspiracy was that the then Duke of Edinburgh was fascinated by the space mission and the moon landings and hosted a reception for the astronauts but was hugely disappointed by them and their apparent lack of knowledge.

You're basing your thinking on one episode of The Crown. FFS.

Do you think The Crown is a fly on the wall documentary??

Frabbits · 20/04/2023 17:45

S'Ok OP, I'm with you. How do you land a spaceship on cheese? It would just melt.

But it’s cold on the moon. Durrrr! The cheese is frozen.

rumbusiness · 20/04/2023 20:45

The worst thing about this thread is that 23 percent of people have voted YANBU

Daftasabroom · 20/04/2023 20:45

notimagain · 20/04/2023 19:30

Nice idea but there's no way a modern politician shoulder the risks involved using 60s technology.

The thing is 1960s tech was okay to get a few people to the moon and back and scrap the launch vehicle in the process. 2980

Anactor · 20/04/2023 20:46

LucifersLight · 20/04/2023 19:24

I’d love to see any government try to get to the moon using 1969 techonology to prove it could be done…

You could get to the moon starting from a base of World War 2 technology. The problem wasn’t getting there but getting back alive.

There is a still existing copy of the speech President Nixon would have made if Aldrin and Armstrong had been unable to return. Michael Collins, the Command module pilot, had trained for the event of having to return home without them.

The lunar module landed on the moon with 45 seconds to spare before they didn’t have enough fuel to take off again. Nerves of solid steel, all three of them.

You are thinking of Gibraltar. Malta has many wonderful tourist attractions. Gibraltar is a big rock with aggro monkeys. Easy mistake to make. Often mixed up with Yalta as well.

Nope Malta. As in Malta. M-A-L-T-A.

A big rock in the middle of nowhere.

SoupDragon · 20/04/2023 20:47

viques · 20/04/2023 19:56

Watch the film Hidden Figures. The calculations for early rocket launches and manned space travel were done by humans, they were actually called “computers” because they computed numbers. The human beings , mostly women btw, were able to calculate to much more accurate specs than early computers.

It’s a brilliant film btw, celebrating amazing women , well worth watching and remembering that women played a part in space exploration history right from the start, even if they weren’t visible.

I don't think you meant to quote my post there. If you did you've spectacularly missed my point 😂

Daftasabroom · 20/04/2023 20:47

Doh, 1980s tech was okay to launch and recover a space vehicle not intended for lunar landing (except when it didn't work).

It will now take 2020s tech to take people to the moon and recover the launch vehicle.

Daftasabroom · 20/04/2023 20:49

Vegetus · 20/04/2023 19:43

Chemical rocketry hasn't changed since it's invention. The technology hasn't changed or become more advanced. If anything it's worse now due to safety concerns that didn't exist during the cold war period. Obviously computing power is much greater now but that wasn't and hasn't ever been a limiting factor in space flight. But if you're so sure please tell us the technology that didn't exist!

SpaceX is the first to use liquid methanol

NerdyIsMyMiddleName · 20/04/2023 20:50

Jesus wept! And 23% of voters are agreeing? Let's do a straw poll of people who actually know something about, and have advanced qualifications in, astrophysics/aeronautical engineering and compare their views.

Lifeomars · 20/04/2023 20:55

The stupidity of this post is one thing, the fact that around 23% of people (when I voted) agreed is even more troubling.

nauticant · 20/04/2023 20:56

Maybe the OP has a point:

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/04/2023 20:58

If Wallace and Gromit can construct a rocket in their cellar and travel to the moon (bear in mind Gromit is a dog) I'm sure that NASA with backing of President Kennedy could have done this.

I suggest you watch the documentary 'A Grand Day Out' it's a real eye-opener.
