Dogs peeing on car tyres

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 10:09

Put on AIBU for traffic-
need some advice-
how do I word a message to put on road WhatsApp group?
basically- we have 2 cars- one on drive one outside our hedge on road
daily approx 2-3 times a day- someone is letting their dog pee on the car tyres.
firstly- disgusting. Why??? Just why??? Secondly there are bushes, verges and trees all along the road!
I am sick of cleaning it constantly now.
we have a child with severe contact anaphylactic allergies- we don’t even use that car unless it’s myself or hubby using it alone.
I don’t know who it is that’s doing it.
so wanted to compose a message to put on the road WhatsApp group that doesn’t come across as a doormat or being bitchy either.
appreciate any replies x

You might want to consider putting a note on the roof of your car too, just in case a bird is thinking of pooping there.

Seriously, your car tyres are full of poo, wee, dead animal bits, mould, and 101 other gross things you can think of - just by virtue of being on the road. Some dog wee is not going to corrode anything.

FrenchandSaunders · 20/04/2023 12:23

I'd avoid you if you sent this on a neighbourhood whatsapp group

Devoutspoken · 20/04/2023 12:24

You are using a public road as car storage I presume?

Hellybelly84 · 20/04/2023 12:27

I cant see how this affects you or your kids in anyway. Theres dog poo all over the pavements in most towns, so as much as we do our best to avoid stepping in it, there will be traces of it on our shoes all the time (hence why no shoes are ever allowed in our house). I would say thats much worse than dog pee on your car tyres. Also, how can you tell? Surely it dries in the sun quickly on a day like today?

FeltedDogs · 20/04/2023 12:31

I have severe allergies and one of mine pisses on the curtains. I don't see how the two connect and I don't really mind, he's had a hard life

kitsuneghost · 20/04/2023 12:32

It doesn't matter what the OP drives over
It doesn't matter if the kids are touching it
It is the OPs property and she doesn't want dogs pissing on her property.
What the F is wrong with you all ?????

You make walk on a lot worse but that doesn't mean you want a dog pissing on your shoes.

ChairFloorWall · 20/04/2023 12:33

Maybe it’s a cat.

Devoutspoken · 20/04/2023 12:34

Her property is on public land, put it in a garage if it's that precious

WTF has this got to do with anything: child with severe contact anaphylactic allergies?

Gives a feeble post a bit more ammunition?

Joystir59 · 20/04/2023 12:35

This is the wrong hill to die on

If your child has a contact allergy to dogs pee, don't let him/her touch the tyre. Or any lamp post. Or any hedge.

I don't let my dog pee against cars or bins, but I also know that bins and car tyres aren't the cleanest things in the world anyway. There is often horse poo on the roads around here and so my car tyres often have manure embedded in the tread.

Why don't you extend your driveway so you can park both your cars on there?

This thread is slightly bonkers.....

thespy · 20/04/2023 12:38

Maybe you could place some plants in pots in front of the tyres so the dogs piss on those when aiming for your tyres. Then move the pots (wearing strong gloves) to be outside your neighbour's houses on either side of you, so that dogs coming in both directions would smell the piss plants first and pee in those not your car. Additionally, once you have moved the pots wash the car again and spread some strong smelling fabric softener or similar on your tyres to deter dogs as then the tyres will smell of inside the house not a marking post. Or if that's too batshit crazy you could go back to your original idea of giving the neighbourhood a good laugh!

Porkandbeans1 · 20/04/2023 12:40

Do you spray down all your veg before in comes in the house OP? Because I hate to tell you but dogs and foxes pee all over that too.

Goodread1 · 20/04/2023 12:41

Could be envy Jealousy, @whyareallthegoodonesgone

Comes out in emotionally weird messy ways , !

I have seen someone key a open top sports car do that, parked up on the Rd...

TwoFluffyDogsOnMyBed · 20/04/2023 12:41

I hate to break it to you but dogs all wee in the same places because they’re scent marking, so they sniff the wee that’s already there and then leave their own scent. So there are probably multiples dogs doing it.

Dogs love weeing on car wheels - it’s cruel to pull them away🙃

80s · 20/04/2023 12:42

I would never have thought anyone could be annoyed by this, considering that tyres are not known for being squeaky clean. I guess that if someone pointed it out in a group I'd make sure my dog didn't do it (she actually normally squats on geass, but you never know). But tbh I should think other people would think it so ridiculous that they might encourage their dog to have a wee there.

Try parking your car in a slightly different position if you can, e.g. not on a corner or near a patch of grass.

Re peeing on bushes - one block of flats I lived, someone put a note up on a communal bush saying in big red letters that people should stop letting their dogs wee on it as it was killing the bush.
(It's a species that naturally has very floppy downward-pointing leaves. Can't remember the name, but they always look like that - quite ugly!)

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 20/04/2023 12:45

I'm a dog owner and dog walker and I would never, ever let a dog piss up someone's car - just like I'd never let them piss up someone's front door or someone's shopping on the floor by a bus stop.

It's perfectly possible to stop a dog from marking and you can teach them to go on command - if you want your dog to have a sniffy walk where they can scent mark freely then you need to take them somewhere where they won't piss up people's property.

The fact that OP drives over all kinds of filth everyday is irrelevant - it's still grim to just stand there and let your dog piss up someone's stuff.

80s · 20/04/2023 12:46

At a minimum all dogs should be chipped/registered and a tax paid on ownership of each dog
Owners pay dog tax here in Germany - €108 a year. Not sure that encourages people to stop their dogs weeing on car tyres, though.

Wanderingowl · 20/04/2023 12:46

As has been said, urination is a form of communication for dogs. If this is genuinely something that could affect you child's allergies, your best bet is to keep pouring a strong Jeyes fluid solution over your tyres. That can eliminate the scent that lets other dogs know a dog has peed there and should stop them wanting to pee on top of it.

Quite irrelevant whether you thought the bush was pretty or not. It certainly had more benefit to the community than your (potentially equally ugly) mutt. Can't believe the entitlement of some dog owners.

80s · 20/04/2023 12:50

Don't use bleach as wee contains ammonia too, so bleach smells quite like wee :)
Maybe Febreze?

Quite irrelevant whether you thought the bush was pretty or not.
That wasn't the point. They thought the bush was dying because the leaves were pointing downwards. It was not dying, and I doubt it was even getting weed on, as it wasn't near the street. I also did not own a dog at that time, to complete the relevant information :)

You make walk on a lot worse but that doesn't mean you want a dog pissing on your shoes.

Then maybe she needs to remove her property from the public highway. If you use the road to store your car then you don't have a lot of control whether or not a dog or another animal wees or shits on it.

Haven't RTFT but it prompted me to do a search, as our dogs always pee on our car tyres;

That's a great article, thank you!

Unless the severe contact anaphylactic allergies are in any way triggered by the presence of dog wee on a car tyre, YABU.
How many gazillion times more hazardous are car exhaust fumes to a child with asthma (or any child) than a trace of dry dog wee?

This. Unless electric I am pretty certain the the stuff that comes out of your car is far more damaging than a little dog wee. Also, I imagine you fairly regularly drive over all sorts - wee, road kill, chemicals, etc.
