Dogs peeing on car tyres

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 10:09

Put on AIBU for traffic-
need some advice-
how do I word a message to put on road WhatsApp group?
basically- we have 2 cars- one on drive one outside our hedge on road
daily approx 2-3 times a day- someone is letting their dog pee on the car tyres.
firstly- disgusting. Why??? Just why??? Secondly there are bushes, verges and trees all along the road!
I am sick of cleaning it constantly now.
we have a child with severe contact anaphylactic allergies- we don’t even use that car unless it’s myself or hubby using it alone.
I don’t know who it is that’s doing it.
so wanted to compose a message to put on the road WhatsApp group that doesn’t come across as a doormat or being bitchy either.
appreciate any replies x

Uh dogs pee about a dozen times or more in a walk, and one dog will pee where another one has. I don't let mine pee against a car (or gate posts to someone's path), but I'm not sure why you are rushing out to clean it. Just don't let your kid touch the tires, as you may have driven over all sorts of stuff.
However there are pee deterrents out there. Maybe try spraying some on your car tires?

reesewithoutaspoon · 20/04/2023 13:15

Considering tyres are filthy anyway I couldnt get worked up about this but not much you can do about it unless you remove all traces of urine from the tyre. dogs will scent mark over other dogs and their sense of smell is strong.
You need a deterrent or this will continue ad infinitum

Floofydawg · 20/04/2023 13:17

I've heard it all now...

Quite irrelevant whether you thought the bush was pretty or not. It certainly had more benefit to the community than your (potentially equally ugly) mutt. Can't believe the entitlement of some dog owners.

Dogs are not ugly.

It doesn't matter what the OP drives over
It doesn't matter if the kids are touching it
It is the OPs property and she doesn't want dogs pissing on her property.
What the F is wrong with you all ?????

You make walk on a lot worse but that doesn't mean you want a dog pissing on your shoes.

Am pretty sure OP doesn't leave her shoes on the street though.

If she's that arsed about it she can park somewhere other than on a public street where the dogs can't get to it.

Catspyjamas17 · 20/04/2023 13:28

I try to stop my dog peeing in the street leaving a big unsightly puddle of wee or on the edge of neighbours' gardens - she normally goes on our lawn first so does small wees only while she's out and normally we can get to a little wooded area before she does anything. But sometimes, even with the best of intentions dogs do embarrassing or inconvenient things.

It does seem disrespectful at least if people are repeatedly allowing their dogs to pee up the car, even if it is on the tyres. I'd find that odd, though I'd not necessarily worry about it from a hygiene perspective.

begoneday · 20/04/2023 13:28

It’s odd to allow a dog to urinate on someone’s property but I’m not sure you can do anything to stop weird behaviour like that

Seas164 · 20/04/2023 13:29

You can clean the tyres til you're blue in the face ten times a day, however the pee will be running down the tyres and ending up on the tarmac/grass, which means that the "marking" or peeing will continue.

Sorry.

amusedbush · 20/04/2023 13:31

I'm surprised by the responses here. I'm a dog owner (one of the ridiculous "furbaby" ones, too) and my standards for cleanliness are lower than most but I'd be a bit annoyed by this too.

Any time my dog lifts his leg around someone's property, I pull him away from it. Their urine is noxious stuff - it kills grass and, over time, will discolour/corrode metal so repeated canine "visits" will damage alloys. And if it can corrode metal, surely it can also corrode rubber?

Of course tyres get dirty and it's all fine and well saying "you drive over worse than that!" but this is about dog urine specifically. Someone is allowing their dog to pee on the same wheel multiple times a day, every day.

But I find in incredible that a dog pees in the exact same spot on a walk three times a day.

Then she needs to move it off the public highway. If you own stuff that’s sitting on publicly owned roads you are giving access to people are not going to take the same care of your possessions as you.

OllytheCollie · 20/04/2023 13:35

Apologies if this has already been said but it won't be one dog will it so a message to a group is pointless. Its going to be all the dogs going past your house once one dog has had a wee on the car. Overmarking is how male dogs in particular communicate. Dog one comes along, has a little wee to show they have been there, dog two comes by, sniffs the wee, does another wee to say 'Me too' etc etc. That's why lampposts get covered in wee. Try giving your car tires a good wash and parking it somewhere else for a day, then move it back and the dogs that walk past there on the way to the park every day may have found somewhere else to mark. That may be the bushes by your house instead. Marking is a normal dog behaviour, and sniffing wee gives dogs an enormous amount of pleasure. Don't ask me to explain why, I'm just the sucker on the other end of the lead whilst my dog sniffs bums and wees. I do agree owners should discourage their dogs from marking personal property, but some leg cocking on lamp posts and hedges will always happen.

Floofydawg · 20/04/2023 13:35

@nomoredriving my dog pees in the same spot as soon as we leave the hosue. In this case it's up the nearest lamp-post though. So no, it's not incredible that a dog pees in the same spot - it's what they do.

begoneday · 20/04/2023 13:35

You wouldn’t allow your toddler to stop and wee on someone’s car so why allow a dog ? A dog can wait 30 seconds and wee elsewhere.

AndrexPuppy · 20/04/2023 13:44

You need to be cleaning it with enzymatic cleaner too, like bio washing powder, otherwise that pheromone mark will still be there and there’ll keep on remarking

Hadjab · 20/04/2023 13:45

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 10:47

@fancyfrogs allergy uk is a very good website to learn about allergies- especially CONTACT allergies.

Not having a go, but I still don't understand. Unless your kids are rubbing themselves on the tyres, how are they going to come into contact with the dog pee? I can honestly say I don't come into contact with any of my tyres in my day-to-day life.

amusedbush · 20/04/2023 13:46

nomoredriving · 20/04/2023 13:34

I don't. There is only one place that my dog will poop and he won't go anywhere else, no matter how much he needs the toilet (or how many times he spins in a circle and kicks leaves at me, pretending he's getting down to business Hmm).

Dogs form routines very quickly so if OP's neighbour takes their dog for the same trot around the block 2-3 times a day, it wouldn't surprise me that it started to favour one place to pee.

Tealsofa · 20/04/2023 13:49

anyone clearer on why DC allergies are affected by dog piss on the car wheels?

WoofWoofBeachLife · 20/04/2023 13:52

@whyareallthegoodonesgone before you buy any products try washing your tyres with biological washing powder or bicarb or soda which will remove the urine scent. I know you shouldn't have to, but get cardboard and place it in front of the tyre and salvage your alloys. I'd be pissed off seeing a dog peeing on our car and the alloys. We have 4 dogs, one male and I wouldn't let him pee against a car or at anyone's gate. We don't really walk round our village much but when we do we stick to the road to avoid him marking his territory. One of the girls does it too, even lifts her old leg to mark haha.
I wouldn't post in the group though, it could be numerous dogs just marking over each others pee. 🐾

Cheapcookies · 20/04/2023 13:54

This thread is so bizarre. Issues with wee on tyres, OP won't accept that they could be BU and selectively replies to those agreeing with her, then reveals she pavement parks which is much more problematic than the dog wee.

OP has now stropped off to eat lunch off her tyres.

Cheapcookies · 20/04/2023 13:56

anyone clearer on why DC allergies are affected by dog piss on the car wheels?

Because the OP needs ammunition to kick off at her neighbours, who will probably be eager to report her for pavement parking afterwards

Well having witnessed a toddler crouch down and piss in a potty in the middle of a restaurant last summer because the parents couldn't be arsed taking him to the toilet, obviously some people would.

I wondered when the child comparison was going to happen. You do know that dogs aren't toddlers, right?

80s · 20/04/2023 13:59

I find in incredible that a dog pees in the exact same spot on a walk three times a day.
They are funny creatures. My dog is female and doesn't lift her leg, so doesn't target many lampposts, but there are still certain tufts of grass or street corners that all the dogs evidently use. On a 10-minute walk in our area, unless I get her up to jogging pace, she'll easily mark her territory five to ten times, always the same spots. Her ideal would be to just walk from one spot to the next and dribble a bit out each time. This is why you get dark patches of tall grass on street corners.

FeltedDogs · 20/04/2023 14:01

Such a shame the OP flounce. I am feeling so ill with flu, threads like this give me the will to live (while lying in bed with 3 dogs under the duvet)

DrMeredithGrey2023 · 20/04/2023 14:04

@Floofydawg I see your wee in a potty in a restaurant and raise you.....shitting in a potty in costa 🙃
