Dogs peeing on car tyres

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 10:09

Put on AIBU for traffic-
need some advice-
how do I word a message to put on road WhatsApp group?
basically- we have 2 cars- one on drive one outside our hedge on road
daily approx 2-3 times a day- someone is letting their dog pee on the car tyres.
firstly- disgusting. Why??? Just why??? Secondly there are bushes, verges and trees all along the road!
I am sick of cleaning it constantly now.
we have a child with severe contact anaphylactic allergies- we don’t even use that car unless it’s myself or hubby using it alone.
I don’t know who it is that’s doing it.
so wanted to compose a message to put on the road WhatsApp group that doesn’t come across as a doormat or being bitchy either.
appreciate any replies x

While I do feel that this is all a bit OTT (yes, I appreciate OP's DC have contact allergies, but I'd hope they don't just go round touching random tyres even if they didn't!), but from a deterrent perspective, you can get "Pet behave spray" which is an orangey smelling product.

We use it on soft furnishings in the house to stop the cat scratching the chairs and last week I also used it successfully outdoors.

Our NDN dog was making himself a real nuisance trying to break through the brand new fence to get to our cat. There was no chance of him actually breaking through, but the noise of him trying was scaring the shit out of my cat. I sprayed the bottom of the fence with the spray and he went away instantly. I could still hear him on the other side of the fence, but at least he'd stopped throwing himself at it and trying to break through underneath it!

@Redebs thank you will try that in the interim

Perhaps if you got your DH to piss on your tyres it would put off the dogs?

If you don't have a DH or a bloke who could oblige you maybe piss into an empty spray bottle yourself?

😂😂😂

gamerchick · 20/04/2023 11:43

It's pee mails and it won't be just one dog. If you want it to stop you need to remove the scent properly. Then maybe spray something on that'll put the dog off.

Tell your bairn not to touch the wheels and it'll be sound.

HurryShadow · 20/04/2023 11:44

You really will drive over far worse in your car though OP. There will be puddles of wee and poo, dirty leaking water from pipes, oil from other car leaks, fuel, just to name a few.

Heck, I hit a recently deceased pigeon on the motorway last night, so there's all sorts of gore on my tyres this morning!

CurlewKate · 20/04/2023 11:44

"It’s disgusting. You were all a lot more outraged when that lady posted a couple of weeks ago about her 6 year old peeing. Why is dog pee more acceptable? They shouldn’t be doing it on people’s property"
To be honest- I thought she was a bit bonkers too...

Viviennemary · 20/04/2023 11:44

I am the last person to defend dogs. But honestly does it matter. You are not eating off car tyres. Though wouldnt be surprised considering some restaurant's mad ideas of what constitues a plate.

Watchkeys · 20/04/2023 11:45

Have you tried parking the car the other way round? Present the other 2 tyres to the pavement; dogs are attracted to where they've peed before. You could give the pavement a scrub too, and spray with a deterrent. It might break their habit. Then they can pee on someone else's tyres... someone who doesn't find it so hard to handle.

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 11:45

@Starhead69 didn’t see that thread- but seriously people were more outraged about a child- ufff with you on dogs peeing is worse

@SoupDragon i leave enough room for a double buggy to pass by comfortably- and only park the tyres on the pavement- only when the neighbours across have extra cars- to give them that little extra room to manoeuvre

This is whataboutery.

You shouldn't be parking up on the pavement according to the Highway Code (it's a must not in London and a should not elsewhere). You can't claim any kind of moral high ground when you're not coming with clean hands yourself.

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 11:50

@BMW6 oh my eyes! What have I read. Uff your thoughts. Disgusting. No thanks.

I don’t want that stink wafting all over my front garden where my children play

A bit of dog pee on the tyre of a car parked outside your house isn't going to waft all over your front garden! The fumes from passing traffic might though.

Fibonacci13 · 20/04/2023 11:51

once one pees, they will all pee there. Your tyre has become a pee point

DrMeredithGrey2023 · 20/04/2023 11:52

The solution could not be more obvious -

Clear the grass verge from your drive. Park there, problem solved.

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 11:52

@HurryShadow while saying that I’m ott for not liking something that is being done daily and damaging my car- thank you for the actual suggestion for the spray

OP posts:
IClaudine · 20/04/2023 11:52

Oh, you pavement park? That is much worse than dogs peeing on tyres. Please don't do this, it is detrimental to people with disabilities as well as people with buggies.

@whyareallthegoodonesgone honestly this is what they advise to deter foxes. Get your hubby to go out at night and wee on all the tyres and don’t wash it off. Bet this stops them.

However I think you’re mad to even care about this non- issue.

You think you do. My son is a wheelchair user and people parking on the pavement is much more a pain (and illegal) than dog pee on a tyre

You don't know best. Some people don't leave enough room, some don't, and you don't know which this is.

IClaudine · 20/04/2023 11:56

I know! Buy some lion poo and smear it over the tyres. That might put the pooches off.

BoogieBoogieWoogie · 20/04/2023 11:56

Lets hope it's the owners telling you to stop parking on the fecking pavement

whyareallthegoodonesgone · 20/04/2023 11:57

@clpsmum yes even a wheelchair can get though- and I only park on the pavement when the neighbour needs more space so not everyday
