Soooooooo many dog threads

What's going on on Mumsnet at the moment? So so many dog threads every day. Is it one person that's got super pissed off with dogs and is using lots of different usernames to start new threads? What's going on?

I found the first few I saw last week quite interesting, but in the last hour alone I've seen more than 4 pop up on here.

What's with the dog threads? 🐶

OP posts:

I don't think not liking dogs jumping up at you or tripping you over makes you a 'rabid dog hater'. Dogs don't jump at me every day, but they do several times a year. More frequently a dog runs into me or a wet dog shakes itself all over me or I tread in dog mess - I walk every day on a shared use towpath, with runners, cyclists, walkers, occaionall small children (lots of children at weekends) and dogs, usually off the lead.

And actually we do live next door to two dogs that bark at a twig being trodden on. We don't really mind as we get on really well with our neighbours and the dogs are friendly, but we do joke semi-seriously about it in a 'Why can't those bloody dogs shut up for 5 minutes?' way.

I'm very happy that people love their dogs and have their dogs in their lives. I just don't want their dogs in my life.

LowFlyingDucks · 20/04/2023 11:11

I think there are a lot of anti-dog threads. Is it because a lot of people became new dog-owners in lockdown, but they didn’t know how to socialise them properly, so there are more badly behaved dogs out there?

Anyway. I love a thread where people post pictures of their dogs and I really don’t like all this negativity about them.

fliptopbin · 20/04/2023 11:14

I suspect that my cats have mastered chat gtp whilst plonking their fat butts on my laptop, and are carrying out a vendetta against our neighbours's dog by posting anti dog threads.

Spare a thought for me, I have a so called scary dog. I've been told to put him to sleep, called rough, a chav, thick, ignorant .. you name it. I am actually a dream of a dog owner for dog haters. You will never get within 5 metres of my dog. He's never off the lead. All irrelevant though when the pitchforks are out.

Same here, mad isn't it?

It's because there are millions of the fuckers and they are causing more problems than ever.

What? People? Yes, they are definitely causing us dogs more problems than ever.

Oh crap, I've just given myself away by user my human's technology. D'oh.

HappiestSleeping · 20/04/2023 11:22

*using (sorry, my paw slipped)

LowFlyingDucks · 20/04/2023 11:29

I don’t have a dog and I love other people’s dogs. Seeing them running around with their tongues and sometimes ears flapping about is poor joy for the soul.

I agree with this - they are becoming a huge nuisance to society. The breeding and selling of dogs needs to be regulated.

I also wonder how everyone is affording their dog food, insurance etc. With prices of everything going up, a dog is definitely an expensive luxury.

Xenia · 20/04/2023 11:31

I haven't posted about dogs in a long while but I detest them and what their owners let them do. Perhaps I should be starting anti dog threads too.

I wish the owners would realise (a) many of us do not want the animal touching us including licking up (b) that any remains of the dog - leave no trace - is appalling. That is just two for starters.

Viviennemary · 20/04/2023 11:33

I don't like dogs. They are a nuisance at best and highly dangerous at worst. Not a week goes by and there is news of another dog attack. Not surprised there are so many threads.

Scalottia · 20/04/2023 11:34

Haffiana · 19/04/2023 19:15

It is because the dog nutters on MN are so sincerely, utterly, humourlessly batshit.

It is eye-opening to watch them melt down on behalf of any perceived slight or offense to a dog.

You said it better than I could! Absolute nutters on MN when it comes to dogs.

OP I just hide the threads. Unfortunately for every one I hide, 2 come back in its place.

LowFlyingDucks · 20/04/2023 11:34

You just need one dog owner to not pick up after their dog and an entire street can have mess all the way along it.

The fifty people clearing up after their dogs aren’t going to register with anyone.

Yummymummy2020 · 20/04/2023 11:37

I noticed there are more too but equally I noticed there have been so many more incidents lately aswell!

GOW56 · 20/04/2023 11:37

I think it is because during the pandemic loads of people bought dogs and treated them as some sort of surrogate child so never trained them properly and also some became bored with them after lockdown when they had other things to do.
I haven't posted anything about dogs but totally understand people's frustrations. Especially at those dog owners who seem to think their dogs are more important than people. I even read a post that said their dog was more important than anyone else's child! That can never be the case.

I’ve always wanted a dog, but I don’t think I could stick out the required commitment. It changes your whole lifestyle. I also wouldn’t like the kinds of mind games you have to play with them so they are obedient.

You’re right, it’s like a weird other universe on Mumsnet re dogs.

I read a load of it and assume most people will detest my dogs, then I walk them and everyone melts a bit when they come near because they’re lovely. So the real world is certainly a lot more normal towards dogs than on here, which is pretty hysterical. I expect to find people throwing themselves up the nearest tree in fright at my terribly scary Labradors when I’ve been on Mumsnet too much.

There is a lot of uptight people on here though and it isn’t just about dogs, but shit like answering the frigging door even. It doesn’t give the best impression.

This is what I find too! The hate for dogs on mumsnet doesn’t seem to transfer to real life! So I agree a lot of the dog haters on here are probably just very tense about life in general and it’s just another thing for them to vent about.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 20/04/2023 12:05

I honk it’s the same four or five posters who really hate dogs.

I wish they’d get a life and a spaniel or two, just to cheer up their sad days.

LowFlyingDucks · 20/04/2023 12:10

Well I love your pooches!

All their delightful, four-legged, show-offy outpacing of me when I go for a run.

They literally runs rings around me 😂

maddening · 20/04/2023 12:12

Blame the pandemic imo - it was definitely a driver in the rate of dog ownership which has certainly risen - people will now experience a greater number of dog interactions and the number of these that cause a negative experience or issue will therefore increase

’I honk it’s the same four or five posters who really hate dogs. ‘

Yes. Yes that’s right. Only five posters hate dogs. Everyone else adores them.
The denial is strong 😂

LowFlyingDucks · 20/04/2023 12:29

There’s a lot of negativity going on on MN.

I suppose complaining is enjoyable and dogs/dog owners are a new apparently legitimate thing to complain about.

Dog owners say ' oh my baby woulldn't hurt a fly' until they rip someone's arm/leg/face off or kill them.

There is increasing negativity lately, but times are hard and lots of people are struggling (despite the denial of some very vocal posters). So I’m wondering if that’s behind all the negative posts.

SerafinasGoose · 20/04/2023 13:26

Likely because of the worrying increase in serious dog attacks since the COVID lockdowns. Some breeds are very obviously not suitable as pets. Given the wrong circumstances all can turn, but some are capable of inflicting a great deal more damage.

The dogs are not at fault - dogs are lovely animals and faithful companions - it's some of their very irresponsible, downright inconsiderate owners who are the problem. Case in point: the aeriated thread on this site in which people thought it a-okay to throw their animal's shit in someone else's wheelie-bin.

Dogs are better than a lot of the humans who own them, that's for sure.
