Soooooooo many dog threads

What's going on on Mumsnet at the moment? So so many dog threads every day. Is it one person that's got super pissed off with dogs and is using lots of different usernames to start new threads? What's going on?

I found the first few I saw last week quite interesting, but in the last hour alone I've seen more than 4 pop up on here.

What's with the dog threads? 🐶

OP posts:

I've noticed that too, there's one that's always titled "yet another person mauled by a dog" or along those lines. I think that's the same person. Seems like they scour the news for articles on dangerous dogs/dog attacks and immediately post to MN when they find one.

DancedByTheLightOfTheMoon · 19/04/2023 20:00

I think most dogs are thoroughly depressed, miserable, and completely broken in spirit.
They descend from wolves are are meant to run wild and free in groups , yet we shackle, tether, muzzle, and isolate them as well as expecting then to conform to unnatural robotic behaviour.
We have made the "problem" dogs face today by our unrealistic expectations and now we're paying the price.

Because dog-haters can’t comprehend that not everyone thinks like them and won’t stop buggering on until everyone thinks exactly like them.
Im personally so fucking sick of kids coming up to my dog and molesting her. It happens daily. I get followed down the street by them too… Wish parents would teach their kids some recall. One grandmother shouted at me because I was in too much of a hurry to let her grandson pet my dog. Managed 40 years without being accosted by a random dog (as seems to be so frequent on these threads) but this seems to happen daily.

Yeh right, we believe you, honest. 😂

Dog today have been domesticated over 100s, if not 1000s of years. They have not been ripped out of the wild, and are not depressed as a result of that.

The pets have worked out how to use our tech when we aren't looking 😉

Coz only one person is concerned about people being mauled by dogs?!

There are more dogs than ever before, after Covid, and, if you don't much like dogs and/or are genuinely scared of them, you encounter a lot of very entitled and inconsiderate dog owners and their dogs. You also encounter lots of lovely, thoughtful dog owners, but since there are so many dogs, you meet more inconsiderate owners than you would wish.

And child owners and their inconsiderate crotch goblins. Teach them recall. Don’t leave home until they come back to you. God dammit! 😂

Nope, but one person posts the same thing constantly. Also never much more than the article with a comment such as "poor person" or "this is awful". The same posting style is easy to spot, plus there's never any AIBU element to it.

Ah right I see. How odd

NotAnotherPylon · 19/04/2023 22:56

I like to read the dog threads (you're right, there are loads at the minute) and occasionally join in the debate, especially when it's about runners vs dogs. I love to see a good bun fight over pets. Nothing else seems to get people as worked up. There was a brilliant one quite a while back about a runner who let someone's dog run along beside her for miles. It might not even have been real, but reading all the comments helped to pass an otherwise dull and uneventful afternoon😅

meatbaseddessert · 20/04/2023 10:03

I love dogs and I would have given my right arm to be jumped up at by a golden retriever before I got my own dog.

Never happened. Not once. Despite daily 5km runs on a beach infested by off lead dogs.

Most of them barely glance at me.
Where do I need to live to get continued cuddles off dogs please?

bozzabollix · 20/04/2023 10:10

You’re right, it’s like a weird other universe on Mumsnet re dogs.

I read a load of it and assume most people will detest my dogs, then I walk them and everyone melts a bit when they come near because they’re lovely. So the real world is certainly a lot more normal towards dogs than on here, which is pretty hysterical. I expect to find people throwing themselves up the nearest tree in fright at my terribly scary Labradors when I’ve been on Mumsnet too much.

There is a lot of uptight people on here though and it isn’t just about dogs, but shit like answering the frigging door even. It doesn’t give the best impression.

bozzabollix · 20/04/2023 10:12

@meatbaseddessert Yes! Know what you mean! If I go on holiday without mine I miss them badly and other peoples dogs just aren’t bothered. Where are all these hyper interested bad mannered dogs? Because if I’m on holiday I want to meet with them!

wetotter · 20/04/2023 10:13

DDog has been known to try to post on MN - she licks the screen and predictive text appears!

The reason there are more dog threads is that since lockdown there are more pet dogs (and with more people having dogs, more dog lovers think it might be possible for them to manage too). And a lot f these owners are inexperienced, and don't fully grasp how very antisocial things like jumping up or rushing over (to dogs or other people) actually is.

Also, I think some people are unrealistic about how long you should leave a dog (especially a young one) alone for - because if cooped up for hours at home then it's bound to be more hyper when out and about.

And when there are more owners, then there are also more shitty (deliberate choice of word) owners - ie similar fraction of a larger number is a larger number. When I'm picking up DDog's poo, I usually scoop up any litter within reach as well. In the last few months, there has been a noticeable increase in other dog's poo that has just been left. Horrid. And every sympathy with posters who complain about that!

LoveSong · 20/04/2023 10:19

I’m always amazed at how many people have numerous negative encounters with dogs on what must be a daily basis. They’re jumped on, knocked over, have picnics disturbed, food stolen, neighbours with dogs that bark ALL DAY, dogs that shit in their front gardens etc. And all this happens to the same people, regularly. 😉

I’ve only ever had one dog jump up at me and I’m in my 40s.

The threads are quite funny. The dog haters lose their mind. 😅

SnapCracklePopBang · 20/04/2023 10:26

I think people have become less community-minded in general. The pandemic has made the dog situation worse.

Dogs who ruin picnics etc are just an obvious visible symptom of people not giving a shit about others. Throwing litter etc doesn’t create thread content in the same way. I guess because people don’t defend it in the same way dog-owners do.

Re the OP, I think one thread leads to another as it becomes to the forefront of people’s minds. That’s all.

FeltedDogs · 20/04/2023 10:28

I love dogs and have loads of the damn creatures but the thought of living in the UK where people.weild bully breeds and there is no comeback scares the crap out of me. If one killed one of my spaniels I would kill the dog with my bare hands. I'm sick of stupid people never being held to account.

C0LO · 20/04/2023 10:29

Spare a thought for me, I have a so called scary dog. I've been told to put him to sleep, called rough, a chav, thick, ignorant .. you name it. I am actually a dream of a dog owner for dog haters. You will never get within 5 metres of my dog. He's never off the lead. All irrelevant though when the pitchforks are out.

Neededanewuserhandle · 20/04/2023 10:29

Yeah OP - we should ask MNHQ if we can have a separate area for all the rabid dog haters to post.

Divorcedalongtime · 20/04/2023 10:32

Because dogs are annoying AF and dog owners are clueless

You sound like a far better owner than the ones who have small dogs yet let them jump up at strangers etc.

Softoprider · 20/04/2023 10:38

Could we just have a reasonable dog thread without using the words shite💩 and piss.
Could we discuss dogs without mentioning picnics and clean trousers

No?

Thought so 😾

Nobody likes a rabid dog
