Would you give away your pet for a million pounds?

Hypothetically.
If somebody knocked on my door right now and offered to re-home my cat for a million pounds, I just don't think I could do it. Even though that would be a completely life-changing amount of money for me. Could you?

Christ no.

And anyone saying yes frankly shouldn't be owning a pet imo!

cittigirl · 19/04/2023 14:43

I adore my dog and the thought upsets me but if I knew he'd be going to a good home then yes, I would, I think

pompomdaisy · 19/04/2023 15:19

👎 bad form for even asking!

BuHao · 19/04/2023 15:22

Yes. My cat was a stray and I’ve only had him for a few weeks. He’s wrecked a curtain already, and it’s rented, fully-furnished accommodation where any damaged items need to be paid for (full price). I’d take the utilitarian approach and donate some of the money to a cat rescue place, thereby helping save the life of significantly more than one cat!

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 19/04/2023 15:30

Husband, yes.
Cats, not a chance.

Capitulatingpanda · 19/04/2023 15:30

No

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 19/04/2023 15:32

At the moment yes, as she’s scratched up my sofa and I will need to buy a new one 😭

SparklyBlackKitten · 19/04/2023 15:40

Yes of course.

Bye kitty and hello new bathroom, new kitchen, new skylights, swimming pool, holidays...... etc

Flossyhair · 19/04/2023 16:02

My darling old dog died recently. There is no way I would have chosen to give him up for any amount of money. He stuck with me through thick and thin so no way would I have parted with him.

But I would give anything to have him back if it were at all possible - even a million pounds.

Scirocco · 19/04/2023 16:09

Absolutely NOT!

My cat has been with me his whole life so far and I have no intention of abandoning him. Even when he tries to eat and then regurgitates bits of baby socks.

elliejjtiny · 19/04/2023 16:26

No, not my mr fluffyboots. Although DS2 is reading over my shoulder and said he would!

Rubyupbeat · 19/04/2023 16:36

Not even for several billion

NotAnotherBathBomb · 19/04/2023 17:31

Yes.

I don't have a let though, does that affect the answer somewhat 😂

BarelyLiterate · 18/04/2023 18:39

I’d let it go for a lot less than that.

Me too 😂

allfurcoatnoknickers · 19/04/2023 19:16

No. Maybe for 100m, but 1m would barely pay off my mortgage, so I'd rather keep the dogs.

coeurnoir · 19/04/2023 19:21

God no.
I'd toss the husband and (adult) kids out on the streets before I parted with my gorgeous boy!

LadyGrinningSoul85 · 19/04/2023 19:23

In a heartbeat.

coeurnoir · 19/04/2023 19:25

Spottycarousel · 18/04/2023 19:20

Absolutely not. My dog is my baby. She's elderly and got health problems that require medication and she would not cope being moved elsewhere.

Mine too. He's an absolute dickhead and completely high maintenance but just looking at that little face and thinking about selling him makes me choke up.
I would be the person on the streets to stay with my dog.

Boussa · 19/04/2023 19:32

Never. My dog is my pride and joy.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/04/2023 19:34

Yes! As long as they were going somewhere nice.

They’d get over you fine. No point kidding yourself.

Not if they were going somewhere miserable.

WhisperingAutistic · 19/04/2023 10:31

We have 5 cats and I definitely would not give them away for a million.
I asked dh and he said absolutely...
I don't know how I feel about that to be honest 🤔

LTB 🤣

LynetteScavo · 19/04/2023 19:57

Years ago I was chatting to a mum at toddler group. She was in a rage because her DH had said he would happily swap a DC for 1 million pounds (they were perfectly nice children, and not at all hard up).

If I knew devil cat was going to be treated well I'd send him off with a happy wave. if anyone wants a ratter he's pretty good I've often suggested he go to live with MIL - I think they'd both like the arrangement. I'd still pay for food and vets bills. DH won't go along with it, though. Apparently he's quite attached to devil cat.

WitsHaveEnded · 19/04/2023 20:19

Absolutely. We have 2 cats. I tolerate them and look after them the best I can. But all they do from the minute I wake up is sit in the kitchen harassing people for food. They are obsessed and yes they're parasite free. No affection from them, nothing at all. Just screams whenever you enter the house or dare step foot in the kitchen. So yes, for a million quid I'd pack up their belongings and wish them well. My DH wouldn't though, he'd take a bullet for the feral fuckers.

Yes no problem, pets are just property and can be replaced. You could sell your dog for a million and buy a newer one for a few hundred, low thousands max. Easy profit.

and this is the reason humans shouldn't be allowed to keep any animals.

They may well be classed as property legally, but unless you are morally vacant, you'd understand the massive difference between an inanimate object and a sentient being.

As for turning a profit, refer back to my first sentence.
