Would you give away your pet for a million pounds?

Hypothetically.
If somebody knocked on my door right now and offered to re-home my cat for a million pounds, I just don't think I could do it. Even though that would be a completely life-changing amount of money for me. Could you?

Never.

Outliers · 19/04/2023 02:05

Can have them diced and fried for consumption even

I'll take the money

caringcarer · 19/04/2023 02:09

No, and I'd have paid £50k of my own money if I could get my last now dead cat back.

😈😂Love it!

marseille · 19/04/2023 02:23

Absolutely. I'd make a donation to an animal charity to assuage my guilt. I'd assume if someone had that much cash one of my many animals that they took would be looked after very well.( I have this pony if anyone is interested).

JennyWren87 · 19/04/2023 05:11

Yes. We've been trying to rehome our dog since Christmas because he doesn't get on with our one and two year old. But everywhere is full.

Catsmere · 19/04/2023 05:19

Never. I’d be delighted to flog off relatives and acquaintances (not that anyone would pay for them) but never my loving, medically-extremely-expensive, darling cats.

PapitoSpice · 19/04/2023 07:47

Realistically, yes, if I knew the pet was going to a good home and would be happy.

One million pounds would change our life drastically and could mean retirement, setting our kids up financially, etc.

No.
I love my cat and she loves me.
She was a rescue and has been through enough, she is a shy little thing.
I coudn't do that to her.

My younger cat is the same! She’s timid and spends her days cuddled up to me. My older cat is playful and kittenish. Both are rescues and I would never abandon them - and rehoming is abandoning them in my book. I’d love a million pounds (especially given exchange rates, lol) to secure our futures, but without them, what would be the point?

IDontWantToBeAPie · 19/04/2023 09:41

Depends - where's the pet going?

Beaverbridge · 19/04/2023 09:42

Yes!

Yes. I’ve always liked my pets and treated them well, but they’re not members of the family. They’re just amusing animals I feed and take care of. And frankly I doubt they’d pine after me for very long before getting used to a new home, I’m definitely not enough of a sap to think they love me.”

Yep, this.

meatbaseddessert · 19/04/2023 09:45

Yea. I adore the dog but for a fucking MILLION?! Of course FFS

Which now makes me feel like I've got dead space for a heart.

TheVanguardSix · 19/04/2023 09:51

No way.

The thing is, I think it’s very easy to make a moral statement like on a forum about a highly hypothetical situation. If a million was actually offered, I think many people would behave differently, and Fido would be off.

JulieHoney · 19/04/2023 10:06

How many of the pets? Which ones?

They can have the rodents for a tenner, DC have outgrown interest and basically it’s my job now to ensure the wee beasts have a good quality of life. I make sure they have enrichment etc but I’m not attached.

The fish? Sure. The reptile? Eldest is pretty mercenary and could be persuaded.

We love the cats but are very aware their love for us is entirely food based and the disloyal sods would leave us for a regular supply of Dreamies.

Yes, I could do it because it wouldn’t cause them harm and that much money would change our lives.

bozzabollix · 19/04/2023 10:08

Nope. Love each one dearly, even the naughty thief cat.

Beeswood · 19/04/2023 10:23

@Catsmere

I'm glad you feel the same as me!

Julieann418 · 19/04/2023 10:26

Never, I love my dogs like I love my children.

vivainsomnia · 19/04/2023 10:28

I've never questioned this as clearly is never going to happen but my immediate response was no and still is an hour later.

It made me realise that I do live my dog like I love other members of my family. Totally understand why some might find it odd but that's how it is. I wasn't even the one who wanted them in the first place!

vivainsomnia · 19/04/2023 10:29

Saying that, I would have traded my previous cat!

WhisperingAutistic · 19/04/2023 10:31

We have 5 cats and I definitely would not give them away for a million.
I asked dh and he said absolutely...
I don't know how I feel about that to be honest 🤔

Coffeetree · 19/04/2023 10:31

moveoverye · 18/04/2023 18:52

You don’t get to know what happens to your pet, you have to take the risk.

I was going to ask this!

"Rehome" as in, going to a lovely safe comfortable home where the owner would send me photos sometimes? Yes of course.

Sending her off to an unknown location? No way, I couldn't live with the guilt!

FastFood · 19/04/2023 10:38

Honestly, no.
I would be tempted, I would consider it, but I'd be just too heartbroken to just think about it, and would anticipate feeling extremely bad and guilty if I was to accept.
Also, I don't really need the money.
