DH left kids in car

DH was driving back from kids club with DC1&2 (7mo & 2yrs) and stopped at the petrol station for a couple of microwave meals & wine for our dinner tonight, leaving both the kids in the locked car. When he came home I presumed he'd taken them in with him, but then I realised he didn't have the double buggy, so he eventually admitted he left them in the car briefly. He said he had eyes on the car the whole time he was in the shop.

We didn't really have an argument over it but I would just never have left them and was horrified he did, if only for a few mins. Am I overreacting?

Seriously? I've never taken a single one of my four children with me into the petrol station. I didn't even know that was a thing!

What you didn't unbelt 4 children, unload from the car, troop them across the forecourt, listen to the cries of "can I have" for the sweets etc. then troop them all back, put all the seatbelts back on, after the argument of I wanted to get in the car first, it was my turn.

So you're telling me you left them safely on the forecourt, nipped to pay for petrol and pick up a micro meal and wine and no one stole the car whilst the CCTV was recording them?

What sort of parent are you, how have SS never been involved?

Omg have just seen that Birmingham Live have written an article about this post! For clarity, I'm not crazy - I wouldn't have taken both the kids out onto a forecourt! The petrol station near us (literally on the end of our street, a 1 minute or less drive!), has a parking bay separate to the shop. I probably should've put this in my original post! If we didn't live so close by and he had been on the forecourt itself then I wouldn't have questioned leaving the kids in the car !

What's the actual difference between parked by a pump for 3 minutes and parked 10m to the left in a bay for 3 minutes...?

I would never go into a shop, leaving babies in the car. Sorry, OP, I think it was irresponsible.

So you'd cart babies across a petrol forecourt?

supersonicginandtonic · 18/04/2023 18:23

I've been a mum for 16 years. Never taken any of my 5 in with the me.
I've also been driving 23 years and never ever seen anybody take their kids in with them 🤔

This is the beauty of prtrol stations! 1 ppace i can run in and grab a drink/snack with my petrol and leave sleeping baby in the car, or just not having to faff with getting thrm out

@00100001 I would pay at pump and then to a different shop. Simple really.

Pay at pump isn't everywhere though.

So what would you do if you had 3 kids, let's say a and in arms, a 2 hear old and a 5 yo.

and you absolutely had to go into the kiosk to pay?

DanceMonster · 20/04/2023 07:30

Our nearest pay at pump petrol station is 6 miles away. There’s a non pay at pump station 0.3 miles away. A 12 mile round trip would be ridiculous just to prevent me having to leave my children in the car for 2 mins, while in my view at all times, while I popped into the kiosk.
