To think that the Easter bunny leaves an egg for morning

Just found out that the Easter bunny didn't come to my ex's. My child was taken to an Easter event where the bunny had hidden some eggs for many children to find. Ex also mysteriously discovered some eggs in his car that were left by the Easter bunny, a few days after Easter.

My child thinks that the Easter bunny forgot them.

AIBU to think that ex totally dropped the ball on this?

Father Christmas is just as stupid and absurd.

And my child is very intelligent. If the truth about the Easter bunny came to light, they would definitely immediately start to question Father Christmas. The entire fake mythology about mystical beings would crumble.

Again, this is not a rod I made for my own back. My child came home from nursery knowing about the Easter bunny bringing eggs

That's a lot of pretence you'll have to keep up then! Easter Bunny, tooth fairy, mermaids, unicorns, dragons, leprechauns, the Loch ness monster, the abominable snowman...better not let on that any of them are mythical creatures or he'll figure out that Father Christmas isn't real 😂

The only things like this that we observe are FC and EB. Probably tooth fairy when the time comes, though this is undecided atm.

Has your child ever actually figured out that something along these lines isn't real? I wouldn't underestimate their wilful ignorance in this regard. There are so many massive giveaways children totally overlook when it comes to FC.

Why would you be undecided about the tooth fairy? Unlike the Easter bunny you'll find pretty much everybody does the tooth fairy

littleloopylou · 17/04/2023 17:24

@aSofaNearYou not that I know of. Their father told them that the Santas in malls and stuff are just helpers and they seemed to accept this while not dropping the core belief.

The trouble is that my child has always LOVED FC probably more than the average child. I haven't encouraged this to a great degree (have just done what I consider bare minimum) and have long dreaded the big reveal. It was hugely traumatic for my brother.

I have to say that the snideness in this thread is making me feel like an idiot for trying to give my child some magical fun. I have always felt uncomfortable about the lie, though I really want my child to enjoy the normal traditions.

You said that your child loves Father Christmas more than other children do - it would be a shame to deny him the joy of the tooth fairy, as he'd probably love her more than other kids do too.

AllOfThemWitches · 17/04/2023 17:41

Your ex sounds like a dick but really you'd do well to sack off the easter bunny and all the other crap.

Shall we rename this one....

A - "some English people told my DD (aged 2) the EB comes overnight, I've been obliged to do this for another 5 years as I cannot think for myself"

or

B - "my ex is a dick for parenting his way on his time - how dare he!"

or

C - I'm asking if AIBU but don't want to listen to answers that don't agree with me"

or

D - "hey English people - I know you better than you know yourselves"

Which do you think is most appropriate? Answers on a postcard please.
I'm going with A but have to confess that D is the one that pissed me off the most.

BTW, OP, now is the time to stop lying to your DD.

Yeah, me too. Definitely not a tradition here. Some people might but it's not as common as Santa.

Hot cross buns on good Friday, after church. Easter egg on Easter Sunday. Easter egg hunts are fairly common, but not necessarily left by a bunny. Church celebration on Sunday, biggest day in the Christian calendar.

I find the commercialisation of Easter a bit, off.

I'd let Father Christmas run it's course without any elaborate lies to continue it once the child is questioning.

The tooth fairy is tricky if they get to 7 without loosing a tooth. Maybe follow the child's lead if then want to leave it for a fairy. DS was almost 7 and we did the tooth fairy, but without him actually believing for a second, he was just too old. He was happy to get a gold coin though. He lost his eighth tooth at the age of 9 and was well over it by then, he was at secondary school for the rest.

My dc is much older than yours OP. He is autistic and still believes in both FC and EB. He was very angry when he was with ex for Xmas and saw him filling stockings on Xmas eve. He still talks about how daddy is a liar and ruined Xmas.

Here - EB leaves eggs for me to hide on the day or a day when dc are here. That started during covid because EB didn't want to risk coming into the garden and has continued because it's very convenient and avoids any issues like this. We had the hunt today because dc was with dad this year and dad didn't do any eggs at all.

Incidentally I was brought up in a church going family and we always had an egg hunt courtesy of EB.

Fair enough, this does highlight differences in how people celebrate etc. Regarding FC, he only ever provided one of the Christmas present and filled a stocking with sweet things in our family growing up. Other presents came from family and friends

Because we used to live together and I always organised the same type of Easter every year?

But it is no big deal he made it fun in his way why does it have to be your way? If your child loses a tooth will dad be condemned for giving a different amount of money or not doing it the same way? These are the things you have to discuss in advance not just assume

More English people do tooth fairy than Easter Bunny because it is a traditional thing. .....and then the dreaded Elf another American adoptee.

AllOfThemWitches · 17/04/2023 21:15

Tooth fairy is dumb. If you're gonna do that, you might as well do the easter bunny too. Or at least tell your children what fairies are really like, according to folklore. ;)

Sturnip · 17/04/2023 21:21

I’ve not previously heard of the Easter Bunny leaving an egg for the morning. It was always Easter Egg hunts for me as a child, same for my friends. I also don’t remember believing in the Easter Bunny like I did Father Christmas.
