To not get rid of the hot tub?

SunsetsInVenice · 15/04/2023 22:20

We use the hot tub in the evenings, usually from 9PM-10PM. It does get quite loud but we only use it of an evening.
However, noticed next door neighbour is clearly not happy about it. Keeps looking out the window, opening and then slamming the windows and today told me the sound is carrying and stopping her from enjoying her evening especially as the noise is so distracting. Aibu to say we are hardly in it all day and that we aren't getting rid of it?

You won't catch OP crying as she just can't win.

Well everyone. Whenever you have a really selfish and noisy neighbour, you now know their attitude. They will self justify and pretend they're "comprising" as much as they see fit to get their own way.

Does that REALLY sound like YOU can't win, OP?

The local kids seem to love using the path outside mine for a skate park, very noisy. My neighbours have very loud dogs. Another like to get drunk and scream at each other nose nights. I have taken to chilling in my garden with the radio on until ten ish when the weather is good and now feel no guilt. Everyone has their own noise. Unless your neighbours are quiet as mice they should accept it. The local parents don’t ask their kids to creep past my house when I used to work nights. Alls fair in life.

It's incredibly selfish to be using it regularly that late in the evening when people may be trying to sleep.

9 till ten is not unreasonable atall. Sleep ?

shutthewindownow · 16/04/2023 14:58

I wouldnt take any notice of her. All she has to do is close her windows and doors she would barely hear a hum assuming guy arnt shouting and hollering out there. Nine till ten is not late just carry on she is being beyond ridiculous.

defi · 16/04/2023 15:01

I think the neighbour might be a tad dramatic. How much noise can a hot tub make? If you're playing music ext talking loudly then fair enough. I think living in close proximity to people you have to accept a certain amount of noise

People seem to have very different ideas and opinions of what a garden is for. In my experience it's the ones that have absolutely no interest in gardening, everything slabbed over, not a blade of grass or single plant in sight that are intent on ruining it for others. They just want to drink heavily and talk shit at the top of their voices, anytime night and day and just expect everyone else to put up with it. These are the sheep that rush out buying hot tubs and bars, and plaster it all over social media, they don't give a toss about anyone else or the environment, it's all about them and them having "fun".

God you sound really awful. I'd hate to be your neighbour.

IncompleteSenten · 16/04/2023 15:07

Surely there's room for compromise here?
Move it further from their house for example, or change the time you use it to 8-9 or don't use it every single evening?

OhmygodDont · 16/04/2023 15:07

How far away from the house is it? If it’s the bubble could you not compromise and say half an hour of bubbles.

also maybe a canopy then you won’t have to see her moody face 😂

OhmygodDont · 16/04/2023 15:08

I’ll add my neighbours have a hot tub, a proper plumed in one and an outside cinema type space. Despite their parties here and there and movies I’m sure my children in the pool are probably more annoying.

WilsonMilson · 16/04/2023 15:14

Missing the point of the thread entirely, but the thought of getting into a chavvy sex pond hot tub for an hour every evening, and also inviting a bunch of swingers my friends round is just the most off putting thought. Major ick.

I’m team neighbour!

I’ll be honest I think certain pools are grim but you do realise just how much Chlorine and shit goes into all pools and hot tubs if maintained properly. Ph up or down, shocking it if it’s been left sat, the texting of the levels in such so you don’t get sick.

I spend more time checking my pool chemicals and cleaning it than I personally spend in my pool. Kids love it tho.

LayZspa types are the sex pond if at all. Often unmaintained and brought on impulse in B&m/b&q then up on market place for £90 a few months later when people realise it costs near £5 a day to run. Not the 5k plus proper hard shell hot tubs like the op has said she has.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 16/04/2023 15:36

Would you be happy if they made a really annoying noise for an hour every evening when you were trying to just enjoy your time in your own home?

Let's say they decided to learn the kazoo and for one hour every day they stood in the garden and played their kazoo when you were eating your dinner.

CleaningOutMyCloset · 16/04/2023 16:40

My cut off for being in a hot tub, if my neighbours were close would be about 7pm. 9pm to 10pm is being inconsiderate

I8toys · 16/04/2023 16:47

I thought these things had gone out of fashion because you know you're no longer locked down, can go out and cost of running the sex pond.

RuthW · 16/04/2023 17:56

10pm is not evening - it's night.

Evening is 5-8pm.

You are being unreasonable

IKnowItsNotMine · 16/04/2023 19:21

@Caddyautopants did your seminar mention noisy kids with their bloody balls against the fence getting a clamp down by any chance ?

Hahha no. But I know that pain after 4 years of living next door to the thump bang thud thump bang thud.

Sometimes they kicked it so hard I actually thought they broke the fence. The little fuckers. Their mum would say "well they have to play somewhere. My babies want to be premier league footballers doncha know"

They destroyed that house. They kicked the ball so hard at their house that the render came off. They smashed their windows. Smashed the kitchen doors off. And turned the entire grass lawn to mud. Just mud.

(They were actually one of those Joules-y / faux outdoorsy semi posh families)

We took a low offer on our house to move ASAP 😱

Ladderback · 17/04/2023 09:18

I'd say the neighbour regularly googles to see if hitmen are expensive.

LemonPeonies · 17/04/2023 09:27

I would be annoyed with neighbours doing this. I'm in bed at that time to be up at 5:30 for work. Why can't you use it at 7pm instead?

FishChipsMushyPeas · 17/04/2023 09:58

I wouldnt be surprised if you and your friends are talking louder than you think - where I live the back gardens back directly onto one another and when one of my neighbours has her friends round they are literally screaming at each other, laughing like complete arses etc. She isnt like that normally so its just because shes drunk or showing off to her friends I guess. But the whole street has to hear her talking shit.

mudonmyslipers · 17/04/2023 10:03

It is an annoying noise OP. If you can afford to run a hot tub and use it every day, why not also build some kind of enclosure that has some sound proofing in it.

Be nice to your neighbours, I say. You typically have to live alongside them for a very long time.

Youcunnyfunt · 17/04/2023 13:54

I think the noise carries over the water (amplifies it) and of course you talk louder than you realise over the bubbles. I would be annoyed if I was your neighbour if you were doing it every single evening (without considering noise, turning off bubbles and talking quietly)!

chaosmaker · 17/04/2023 17:14

ilovesooty · 15/04/2023 23:51

How do you soundproof a hot tub? Serious question.

Surround it with a frame/enclose it and soundproof it. Just basic courtesey which is sadly lacking these days in terms of people not considering their own impact on others.

chaosmaker · 17/04/2023 17:18

Elphame · 16/04/2023 10:38

I am so so glad I don't live next to the OP.

Hot tubs are rank. Just a breeding ground for bacteria.

Maybe they're a form of Darwin award and the users of them eventually catch some horrendous illness :)
