To not get rid of the hot tub?

SunsetsInVenice · 15/04/2023 22:20

We use the hot tub in the evenings, usually from 9PM-10PM. It does get quite loud but we only use it of an evening.
However, noticed next door neighbour is clearly not happy about it. Keeps looking out the window, opening and then slamming the windows and today told me the sound is carrying and stopping her from enjoying her evening especially as the noise is so distracting. Aibu to say we are hardly in it all day and that we aren't getting rid of it?

Make fun all you want.
We just can't win. It's a proper hot tub and we don't have music on, no. We do talk and often have friends round who also use it with us. It's not an all day thing and we aren't yelling in there.

Oh come on. This isn’t “just can’t win” this is we know we’re making a lot of noise in the garden EVERY NIGHT at an unsociable time. I’d be furious and upset if you lived next door to me. Great you enjoy your evenings, guess her’s can go fuck themselves.

Hoppingmad231 · 16/04/2023 00:10

Can you not just get a bath instead 🙄

WandaWonder · 16/04/2023 00:13

Yeah right

I hate reverses

Rosula · 16/04/2023 00:20

If I were your neighbours and you refused to be considerate, right now I'd be plotting how to sabotage your sex pond. Maybe a straightforward cut of the wires or a judicious leak, maybe putting something noxious in that you wouldn't find out about before filling it up ...

Sounds bloody irritating, OP, I'd hate it if my neighbours did that. 9-!0 every night???

You are very selfish. Having lived next door to one, that was the other side of the fence to our doors into the garden, they are complete nightmares. People using them are noisy unless it's one person just sitting quietly. The things themselves are noisy- the one next door to us made a continual low-level droning buzz sound- 24 hours a day. Use of them is usually accompanied by loud conversation, shrieking, laughing, lights (at night), music or alcohol or all of the things on the list.

I spoke to my neighbour politely about it and it didn't improve. The droning electrical buzz continually was the worst bit. Thankfully, it was a fad that lasted a year and they got rid of it. DH was ready to vandalise it.

@SunsetsInVenice If the pump is loud, could you look into having the pump replaced with a quieter model? Some of the newer ones are both quiet and more energy efficient, which would benefit you too.

If the issue is you being loud/talking loudly then it should be relatively easy to just be more mindful of voices and volume.

Doristhesparkie · 16/04/2023 02:07

Hope this is a reverse. If so, your neighbours sound like utter selfish twats.

Judgyjudgy · 16/04/2023 02:17

I'm assuming it's loud because you have the jets on and are talking loudly, so why don't you just stop being an asshole and not do that? And not do it every night? R do it earlier? Surely it doesn't have to be all or nothing, please type of people have hotting and don't annoy the neighbours.

Let's hope so. The prospect of this not being a goat predator is worrying

GaryLurcher19 · 16/04/2023 03:29

I'm not sure what noise your scummy sex pond makes, but it's definitely unreasonable at any hour.

Be reasonable, it's grim.

It does get quite loud

But I'm either a troll or an arsehole so ¯\(ツ)

Any noise after nine oclock is not respectful to your neighbours.

Consider using the hot tub before nine o'clock and also constructing a frame/wall that can support sound deadening insulation as a barrier between your noise and the neighbour. (like a recording room kit)

Rubytoos · 16/04/2023 08:04

I’m surprised anyone who can afford to heat a hot tub every night has next door neighbours that close.

DustyLee123 · 16/04/2023 08:06

It’s not just noise at night though is it, the damn things make a humming noise 24 hours a day.

Windingdown · 16/04/2023 10:09

SD1978 · 15/04/2023 23:59

Are these things really that loud they destroy all family pleasure? I live in cross proximity to swimming pools and hot tubs and can't say I give a crap about the sound of the motor- it's front which you tune out with everyday family noise from your own home surely?!

Not everyone makes a lot of family noise. Lots of people live alone, are ill, elderly or are trying to get little ones asleep for school the next day. Lots of people for various reasons live quiet lives and at 9 to 10pm it's not unreasonable to expect people to be respectful of that.

My neighbour has a baby who has an afternoon nap so I don't make any noise during that time. I think most people are kind and do that sort of thing. The OP is being unkind and unreasonable.

How is a hot tub chavvy? Can we stop with the constant sex pond references? It’s such a fucking easy stereotypical go to on here 🙄 along with the ‘tinkly laugh’, ‘No is a complete sentence’ etc. Snooze fest.

Unfortunately, a sizeable proportion of Mumsnet posters confuse repeating empty rhetoric they read on other threads for actually having a personality.

You put it brilliantly! 🤣 It becomes extremely tedious.

Eggseggseverywhere · 16/04/2023 10:23

Anyone wonder what the perfect nn garden looks like? No pool or hot tub. No trampoline.. No ddogs. No pervy bloke. No woman on the phone. No dc before 10 am. No access gate or shared drive. No ramshackle or too low/high fence. No big trees. Or hedge a ddog can get through.. Certainly no dcats around.

Ah great, the supporters have turned up, with a couple of "I'm more intelligent than you" types, my favourite!
