To not get rid of the hot tub?

SunsetsInVenice · 15/04/2023 22:20

We use the hot tub in the evenings, usually from 9PM-10PM. It does get quite loud but we only use it of an evening.
However, noticed next door neighbour is clearly not happy about it. Keeps looking out the window, opening and then slamming the windows and today told me the sound is carrying and stopping her from enjoying her evening especially as the noise is so distracting. Aibu to say we are hardly in it all day and that we aren't getting rid of it?

It’s a bloody annoying noise.

I had one next door and the bloody annoying humming all night meant I had to keep the window closed or permanently use earplugs.

They only used it a couple of times too! All that expense buying it and electricity keeping it running, what a waste. 😡

Actual chavs couldn't afford a hot tub. But it is very TOWIE or Geordie Shores. "Basic". Like Ugg Boots and dodgy hair extensions. That kinda vibe.

I can't believe you actually typed that.

CanoeADo · 16/04/2023 11:35

@ilovesooty as you asked how to soundproof, you can put them on mats or pads so that the vibration from the pump going make less of a droning noise than if just on decking which I believe is the worst for transmitting sound. If you have the bubbles going then that is noisy and you can't do much about reducing that noise. I think the OP should offer to hear it from the neighbour's side if they actually complain.

@Saniflo never watched Towie or Geordie Shores or any reality tv, never owned Uggs and I don't have hair extensions but do have a hot tub which I use for pain relief as it is better than a bath where you can't move positions or have the water deep enough to submerge the whole body up to the neck. Imagine being in labour every month which is what I use mine for as I have endometriosis. Ovulation is also painful. I get pissed off using a TENs machine all the time so this is another form of natural pain relief.

I do not have bubbles on and it is not next to any neighbours.

Anyone wonder what the perfect nn garden looks like? No pool or hot tub. No trampoline.. No ddogs. No pervy bloke. No woman on the phone. No dc before 10 am. No access gate or shared drive. No ramshackle or too low/high fence. No big trees. Or hedge a ddog can get through.. Certainly no dcats around.

No elderly Korean Lady either.

ilovesooty · 16/04/2023 11:44

@CanoeADo thanks - I really did wonder.

IKnowItsNotMine · 16/04/2023 11:46

Proper hot tub with no music for 1 hour a day at a not-unsociable time = crack on !

MN is all about enjoying your garden when it comes to children playing but mention a hot tub ……

Nanny0gg · 16/04/2023 11:47

SunsetsInVenice · 15/04/2023 23:20

Make fun all you want.
We just can't win. It's a proper hot tub and we don't have music on, no. We do talk and often have friends round who also use it with us. It's not an all day thing and we aren't yelling in there.

But you said yourself that it gets quite loud!

And it's every night!

You are rude and thoughtless. Why should people have to listen to you?

Arapawa · 16/04/2023 11:50

I'd hate to have you as an neighbour OP

KarmaStar · 16/04/2023 11:51

What do you mean you just can't win?
you're annoyed because the voting didn't go your way.
You don't agree with the majority who say yabu.
I'm sure it doesn't switch off exactly at 10pm .
so every night you're out disturbing your neighbour but think it's ok to do so!
I have no sympathy for you, your neighbour yes.

Wow, some of the stereotyping and prejudice on here is very ugly.

We bought a hot tub just before lockdown, not as a lockdown purchase but so my daughter could have a couple of friends over for her birthday

We are not chavs and nor have we shagged in the hot tub. It’s not loud and we haven’t had loud rowdy conversations with each other or other friends

I find your snobbery and jumping on the bandwagon calling it a ‘sex pond’ pretty embarrassing for you. PP was right, please get a life and a personality

@SunsetsInVenice enjoy your hot tub ignore the wallies

Even though it's disturbing her neighbours?

When you want to relax in the evening but can't because of the noise from next door? I don't think that time every evening is 'not unsociable'

ImAvingOops · 16/04/2023 12:07

@luckylavender the people who think it's late, aren't necessarily more 'right' than the people who don't!
It's the nature of living near other people that you sometimes have to put up with their irritating (to you) behaviours. My neighbours like cutting their hedges on a weekend morning when I'd like to sleep. They do diy, other neighbours own a yappy dog, the ones behaving me have a screechy child - such is life!
If its literally for an hour, I'd suggest the OP puts noise cancelling headphones on or distracts herself - it's not like they are having raucous parties in the garden every night!

autienotnaughti · 16/04/2023 12:10

On a week day I'd say up to 9pm. Weekend 10pm. Does she have young kids

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 16/04/2023 12:13

adult bubbly paddling pool outside

🤣🤣🤣 Better description than sex pond imho

Your neighbours don't wake you up every morning cutting the grass. Hot tubs are terribly noisy and anti social. The neighbour is clearly annoyed.

Caddyautopants · 16/04/2023 12:20

Ghastly fucking things that are generally only purchased by incredibly self obsessed attention seeking dingbats. Have a bath like everyone else. 😂

LlynTegid · 16/04/2023 12:23

Every night, unreasonable. Friday or Saturday night fair enough.

I don't like them but that's not the issue to me, it's the same as if you were having people chatting in the garden for a barbecue, which you would not do more than once a week I am sure.

sleepyscientist · 16/04/2023 12:26

SunnySaturdayMorning · 15/04/2023 22:28

YABVU and really selfish.

If I was her and you refused to compromise I would make it a really unpleasant experience for you each and every time and play loud music out the window while you were in it.

Excellent hot tub party if you did that to us. OP I don't think you are being unreasonable we will be in ours later. Has it been serviced recently? We missed a service moving house and noticed it became more noisy

aSofaNearYou · 16/04/2023 12:27

It doesn't matter if it's all day, if it's every day it's antisocial.

Once a week would be alright.

CanoeADo · 16/04/2023 12:28

Who are all these people having sex in their hot tubs? Would anyone admit to it or is it just a myth like Center Parcs and anal sex. I have both a hot tub, never felt the urge to have sex in it ever, also been to Center Parcs, again never felt the urge to have anal sex there or anywhere else.

@Caddyautopants how fucking big is your bath? How many adults does it fit? If I could have a hot tub sized bath in my bathroom I would have. When I am in the hot tub for pain relief Dh is usually in there with me.

CaramelicedLatte · 16/04/2023 12:28

We have a hot tub, but we never use it beyond 9pm, even then I like to be out earlier. Our neighbours have never complained about it, but then we're also really considerate with it.

It's less intrusive to use during the day as there's more ambient noise around.

Caddyautopants · 16/04/2023 12:30

@CanoeADo I'm sure you can bathe alone without your DH being there with you. Independence is all part of adulting. I have MS but there's literally no difference between a bath and hot tub. 😊

Mouk · 16/04/2023 12:30

Of course YABU. Use it earlier in the evening and don't be so selfish.

I don't see the appeal of hot tubs either.

potatowhale · 16/04/2023 12:31

That's a bit late OP. I'd do 8-9

Caddyautopants · 16/04/2023 12:32

We had a planning seminar recently and councils are getting so many noise complaints that they're discussing "permissions" that may be required in the future.
