Tell me about your pyjamas

I have pyjama rage. As a child, maybe age 6-17, I slept in knickers alone (I don't know why I needed the knickers. Habit?) This is because I was too hot for pyjamas. Year round.
Now, in my lurvely(!) grown-up-me's house, and it's not 1996 any more, I'm freezing cold and have to wear pjs.

But they drive me bonkers. I need your advice for something / a brand / a link that you can recommend.

Nighties always seem to wind up wound around my middle, and are usually short sleeved so give cold arms.
I have tried fleecy pjs. Too sweaty. Silky satin ones, too staticy and sweaty. Cotton ones, the top twists around as I roll over and the buttons come undone. I'm being woken by ds in the morning with my boobs out. (He's very small and doesn't bat an eyelid)

I heard about toast being the ultimate but they look silky, and also about 99% over budget.

Am I missing the magic pyjama shop down diagon alley?

Please recommend!

I honestly can't get comfortable in anything but baggy T-shirts and knickers/shorts. I'd love to be able to wear gorgeous PJs 🥺

dittbtdity · 13/04/2023 00:25

Try adding another duvet. I use a single on my side of the bed as hubby doesn't like the extra warmth. I hate wearing constricting pj's and prefer jersey sleep shorts and t-shirt and the single duvet keeps me toastie

Nsky62 · 13/04/2023 00:28

I buy tu pjs, generally cheaper than m and s and cotton.
i hardly wear pjs in bed more for pottering in

Shein do some lovely very long nighties. The best one I've had so far was a Tudor style white long one. I prefer to sleep naked but as an exception it's lovely to sleep in swathes of light material. Doesn't ride up in the night if it's long enough (I’m only 5ft and it's around my ankles),

Interesting... don't suppose you have a link? 🤣

I love Their Nibs' cotton jersey model, though they don't seem to make many of them any more - they sometimes have them at TK Maxx for under £20. Not too tight and not too baggy; not too thin and not too thick; wide waistband that sits nicely high; 100% cotton; pockets; fun prints; still look good after multiple washes. I have several pairs, love them.

Additionally, the Their Nibs neckline is fairly wide so you don't feel choked while trying to sleep - my main pyjama gripe

Mammyloveswine · 13/04/2023 01:06

I sleep naked op, sorry!

My kids also must get hot as strip off too! Often find them in just their pants as they tell me they were too warm! I spend loads on pjs, might need to stop 😂😂😂.

If I do wear pjs (eg when sharing with a friend) I find M&S pjs are good-loads of separates so fitted vests/ yoga type bottoms which are less "twisty"..

ComputerWifeKaren · 13/04/2023 01:09

I've got a couple of red very long lacy sleeved ones too 😆

Goingtobee · 13/04/2023 01:16

@Agapornis was just going to say Their Nibs - had no idea you could get them at TK Maxx though, thanks for that tip!

An XL man under armor t-shirt . They're so comfy and soft material. I'm trying to find a woman's top to wear in the day that's as comfortable but looks nice. But haven't yet

IndigoRoo · 13/04/2023 02:39

They are pricey though :(

pishkashante · 13/04/2023 02:40

I have ADHD related sensory issues and I’m very particular about my pyjamas, from neckline, to sleeve length, to material.

I can’t stand revere collar type pyjama tops, they get in my neck.

I found some lovely cotton placket nightwear tops in a GAP store, but haven’t seen anything similar online since.

Sometimes Primark does lovely viscose pyjamas that are not revere style and also not sweaty or uncomfortable.

Also Cyberjammies stuff is very soft and doesn’t look like pyjamas so you can pop out in them if you need to.

They usually have some on their website as well as in the actual shops - though it's mostly accessories and polyester pjs at the moment.

SquigglyGum · 13/04/2023 03:29

I usually go to a charity shop and find a size up t shirt, well worn and washed so lovely and soft. Might cut a wider neckline if I need to and i wear h&m cotton shorts year round as they stay put. I wore leggings the other night as I'm bf and out of bed half the night and that was surprisingly comfortable.

sashh · 13/04/2023 04:27

I wear joggers and T shirt.

RedEyeBaby · 13/04/2023 08:36

Wow thank you all so much! I'm afraid I fell asleep just after ten but I've just read all your messages and I'm really touched - and shocked that so many of us struggle with pjs. Loads of really good ideas to try, thank you all so much.

Something i notice is so many women's night and day wear is polyester and similar, which you all seem to agree is uncomfortable. For day wear, polyester clothes are cold, staticky and bad for the environment. Yet men's and children's clothes are almost universally cotton.

WHY?

AlexisR · 13/04/2023 08:39

Just wear a cotton t shirt/ vest/ long sleeve top (depending how much sleeve you want) and some simple lounge pants or leggings.

My nightwear isnt actually sold as PJ's, it's just what I find comfy to wear.

cocksstrideintheevening · 13/04/2023 10:38

I like a vest and pj bottoms. Bottoms have to have a cuff though, can't stand flappy legs. I get them from next.

Whatsshecalled · 13/04/2023 10:42

Cyberjammies bottoms in either shorts or trousers they are 60% cotton and 40% modal, really soft, light and cool not at all sweaty (I have 4 pairs as they were an absolute revelation when I bought the first ones) I wear with a basic vest top from M&S. Very comfortable, no sweating, top doesn't move at all, legs might but very light material so I don't notice.

eurochick · 13/04/2023 11:33

Cyberjammies. The soft jersey ones. The legs are cuffed so they don't move about too much.
